Is the Ragik Spitfire model old scale, or current scale? He comes in a repacked blister so I can't go by release date.

Main giveaway is the kneepads, and also that Ragiks didn't get Spitfires until N3!

But the Barid has the same kneepads, and is the old scale?

The N2 Ragik version was actually an HMG not a spitfire. They made a new sculpt because they changed the profile.

I never noticed the kneepads, but the barid was N2. But it's not out of scale with the N3 stuff The hand-sculpted N2 stuff had a little too much variation. Some N2 weapons were grossly out of scale. The old HMG was massive.

The Barid is definitely out of scale with current models. It's weird, because it's a really nice, modern-looking sculpt. And it's got those boots and kneepads, and the torso fabric and chest armor plates look really modern to me (Tarik has the same torso). But the sculpt is tiny. Some sort of transition period? I bet @colbrook will know.

Barid was a product of Infinity's "awkward teenage years" of sculpting between Campaign Paradiso (where he got his rules) and N3, when they were using both hand sculpting and CAD alongside each other. He has slight differences with his boots that suggest to me he's hand sculpted (don't own the model myself) but there were CAD sculpts from that era that were very diminutive, like the Anaconda pilot.

The really huge weapons are more like N1 or very early N2 sculpts. There have been a few eras of sculpts in the game, and around Human Sphere is when they started making the slightly smaller and sleeker hand sculpts with more proportional weapons. The earliest digital sculpts (like Moiras) were still in the smaller scale, but with the Icestorm box set they started in with the full-digital somewhat larger models.

I think that why I didn't consider it out of scale. The djzanbzan hacker was really small compared to other djzanbzan.

I'm finding it more noticeable now that the Barid is in a fireteam. Standing next to the rest of the team, he's just slightly too small to pass as a short, slight dude. Maybe he's a teenager.

If we stand too close together the enemy will get us all with a missile, and also the Warcor will be able to tell that we use child soldiers as hackers.

Not a child. That soldier has a hormonal imbalance. Here's the paperwork.

The old Djanbazan hacker does look a bit out of place next to her friends. The ones on the left are definitely very old sculpts from the first era I mentioned, although I don’t recall when the sniper came out. Crouching models tend to have pretty weird proportions, anyway, though.

The pose of the Barid helps mask his size for me. The Hunzakut is a giantess next to him. Her thighs are about as thick as his waist.

but again, she is crouched and it helps make it less noticeable.

At any rate, it's a very nice sculpt and a auto include unit. I've recently started to appreciate the older sculpts more and the scale difference doesn't bother me as much as it used to.

I'm told, from the mists of yore that someone digitized the newer hunzakut and stood her up. 7'1" I believe she's supposed to be.

I might actually be noticing it more now that my minis spend all their time on the shelf during covid. At eye level I find it jarring (and the Barid does in fact sit next to a Hunzakut on my shelf :-) At the table it doesn't matter so much, they're all just tiny splotches anyway. At least, that's my distant memory of what it was like to play Infinity on a table.
