What do you think of N4 Spiral? I always liked the theme of Tohaa/Spiral and their playstyle but before pulling the trigger and starting with them, I wanted to ask you about their changes with the new edition, their new playstyle and their new spot in the meta.

I'm just unsure how strong they are in N4 terms because Spiral didn't benefit as much as other sectorials in N4. HI and TAGs got cheaper while they have only a few. 15 Order Limit. More wildcards so their ability to do various different links is no longer their strength but general feature of a sectorials. Less Pheroware. Loss of Stratuscloud. Are they still able to compensate their low BS and lack of heavy weaponry?

OTOH I'm still massivly intrigued by their insidious and wily playstyle. Shall I wait for N4 Tohaa?

Thanks for your answers in beforehand.

Less Pheroware options, true, but more models WITH Pheroware (namely, the Igao and Diplomatic Delegate) and the Kaeltar changes meaning you almost always bring a 'Bomb. Mirrorball going from White Noise -> Eclipse may be sad for the Kriigel but on the Igao it's absolutely gold.

Spiral may not have gotten many of the HI/TAG buffs that characterize N4, but they still got some nice changes; some options dropped in price, especially the Smoke Launcher Kriigel (went from 27 points to 20) and Kiel-Saan (went from 53 to 46), and we had some SWC drops (namely the Tri-Core, which is now only 0.5 SWC instead of 1, and the Smoke Kriigel Lieutenant, who's now 0!).

I haven't gotten in a lot of games, but from what I've seen the Stratuscloud loss was overall a sidegrade; sure you can't bully TR bots/Suppressive Fire dudes/Fireteams as hard, but an extra -3 is very good against anything lacking MSV2/3, and you no longer need to worry about trying to squeeze all your use out of it in one round. The AP Marksman Draal in a Tri-Core with a symbiomate and symbiobomb is an extremely strong offensive force, especially since higher-ARM models are appearing more and more frequently.

Overall, they seem... cleaner. I feel less of an SWC squeeze (though it's 100% still there) and the 15-model limit doesn't really limit you too badly (unless you were hoping to run 3 Helots). The changes to the Kaeltar profiles mean you see a symbiobomb + symbiomate in almost every game, which is really fun (and previously impossible in Spiral). And, should you fancy taking either HI or a TAG, the Kiel-Saan got an absurd buff (7 points cheaper, Martial Arts L2, BERSERK, better Metachemistry table) and the Anaconda is actually decent, especially with its AP Spitfire.

They're a heck of a lot of fun and certainly don't feel weak.
