Just a thing I stumbled upon while beein sleepless. Tell me if I am wrong, but isn't the HRL Msv2 gwailos in a Haristeam an absolute beast! Burst 3! HRL mit MSV2 and albedo is something frightening indeed. Especially when combined with an speculo who is tossing smoke around. You can hunt all the MSV models the enemy has without any chance of getting hot back. I absolutely habe to try this sometime in the near future! Has anybody tried it and might share insights?
It was pretty decent in N3, for sure, you just had to be careful about how you used it, because at the time pretty much all the MSV models you'd run into would be snipers in full core fireteams, who'd happy shoot you back at full BS thanks to sixth sense. In early N4, things might be different and you'll have better targets of opportunity :)
I used it once in third edition and my opponent happened to have 2 Ru-shi. Being able to walk in the open with the Gwailo and having nanoscreens was delightfully fun. Especially after picking them both off and watching them burn. It was doublely beneficial because I also had a Sphinx in the list too.
I agree, Gwailo HRL is good value, with or without Haris. The number of Wildcards we can use also helps.
I think Dukash is going to be a good friend to the Gwailo haris going into N4. That Mimetism is going to pair very well with the Albedo on the Gwailo itself, and helps to save points you would otherwise be spending on Sheskin for a similar role.
As the Gwailo has Haris does that mean you could potentially run it with Sheskin and Corax Hasht? 3 very killy nanoscreen unit running about getting shit done.... sounds like a giggle to me!
Yes... though that does mean roughly half your army points tied up in a 3 order haris. That and Sheskiin and Hasht tend to step on each others toes in shootouts, so it's probably better to just pick one and fill the other slot with an M-Drone.
Oh yeah it’s bloody stupid. Was thinking Hasht for button pressing more than being the main shooty boy/girl.
Hasht is good if you want a simple Spitfire/Nanoscreen pointman for any other team. Gwailo Haris - I'd probably run it as cheap as possible, use M-Drone to bait MSV AROs, and keep Sheskiin entirely on her own, as a separate attack vector.
Haasht only goes with the HRL gwailos in my opinion, for targets that you need high burst to take on. If you're taking the spitfire or hmg gwailos, messer is probably a better companion. In both cases, though, you take the drone. Between the repeater, the sensor, the triangulated fire, that bot is just *far* too useful to leave behind.
Except that shooting the MSV models lets them shoot back... and most the best MSV pieces these days are in a 5-link with Sixth Sense so avoid the -6 penalty shooting back at you >_>
I've always loved the gwailos hmg in the Harris, with Victor duoed with a jayth elsewhere. The drones repeater let Victor drop white noise, and the gwailos hmg can take out any msv unit easily.
Or you could achieve the same result with a coordinated order and a cheaper sacrificial model. So I don't really see it as an upside of running the Haris - which is the point of the thread >_> I mean, 22pt M-drone vs 9pt Ikadron?
They can't shoot back in the first turn they can't see the gwailos because of albedo. Or am I missing something? And in following turns you may throw out white noise and have the same effect.
Yes, you're missing something :) But so is Praelix in his claim that it's better to use a coordinated order and sacrifice an Ikadron. Basically, it's like this: 1. You move your Gwailos out into the open and the MSV sniper doesn't see you. All good. Howeverm because the sniper is in a core fireteam, shooting at him allows him to shoot back at you without the -6 penalty. 2. Instead what you do is move out the Gwailos AND the M-drone. Now the sniper HAS to ARO or lose the opportunity to ARO, and the only options available to him are dodge or shoot the M-drone. As Paraleix points out, this does usually mean you lose the M-drone, but that's far from the case every time, because it's also possible that the opponent will dodge instead, since trading a powerful ARO piece for a 22 pts specialist isn't always the smartest thing to do. Furthermore, if you opt to use coordinated orders instead, then the burst of the Gwailos is 1, and that's crap. In a case like that, the sniper will almost always choose to just shoot the sacrificial model, because taking a single unopposed HRL shot should be fine, especially if the sniper is well-positioned range-wise. In general, yes. Gwailos HRL in a Haris is a beast though, able to take out MSV units with ease, even when linked. Yes, it might mean sacrificing a 22 point M-drone and losing that +1 burst, but man is that a small price to pay for neutering a powerful defensive link team.
