    Hello all,

I thought it could be fun to have a thread where we could think about what historical/mythological characters we think could be cool to have recreated in the game and what they could do.

Rama: The main character of the Ramayana recreated for the OSS. Could be a backline heavy weapons expert with perhaps a B2 missile launcher and a MSV2 to represent him shooting Shiva's bow. Could also potentially be super neat to have him and another of Shiva's avatara be a named posthuman since they're all technically part of a whole in myth.

Ushiwakamaru/Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune (plus Benkei-bot): Character from Heike Monogatari recreated for JSA. Most would likely go with historical characters from the Sengoku-Jidai for JSA, but I really like the Heike Monogatari characters. I like the idea of him being a decent lieutenant character, perhaps with strategos l1, protected by a synchronized bot that's supposed to represent his faithful companion Benkei that carries a Nanoscreen and Total Reaction with a combi rifle. Not a super expensive character but a lieutenant that protects himself in a unique way.

Tomoe Gozen: Another character from Heike Monogatari recreated for JSA. One of the few badass warrior women from classical Japanese literature, and one that likely lived. She was known for riding into battle with an oversized katana/naginata while wearing heavy armor, so i'm thinking maybe a Daiyokai named character kitted a bit differently with Berserk, EXP CCW and a short-range focused shooting weapon like a +1 damage SMG and still carrying the Panzerfaust. Maybe having a movement of 6-4 to capitalize on her CC focus.

This is just a start, there's endless possibilities here, and it's always fun to theorycraft.

Ned Kelly, the infamous bushranger of the Australian outback. The PanO board, desperate to find some actual Australians or New Zealanders of historic significance, eventually settled on replicating a horse thief famous for wearing plate armour in an age of guns and dropping him somewhere on Dawn in hopes of him doing something noteworthy and glorious to sabotage the Ariadnan government- pretty much William Wallace but on purpose. ALEPH was delighted to help.

Roaming the wilds on his inevitably-stolen motorcycle, horse or confused Antipode, Ned Kelly wears super-heavy armour assembled from assorted pieces of scavenged Teseum junk and wields a variety of experimental weapons snuck his way by Hexahedron agents- including a deadly MULTI Pistol, which he is particularly skilled with. Fueled by his rage against what he views as corrupt police ran by The Banks, he is Impetuous in the extreme and relies primarily upon his massive S5 armour and Berserk rage to overcome foes- he carries Immunity(Total) to help him resist arrest and pretty much everything else, though his armour's primitive nature does leave him with a Vulnerability(Flame). He is also a capable leader of men, and has assembled a small gang around himself, reflected by a LT profile. Lastly he has Scavenger, scavenged itself from the corpse of N3, to help him steal even more things for the poor and needy of outback Australia- at least, until he finally realises he isn't in the Aussie bush at all.

I think Aleph has scrapped the recreation programme after Willy Wally went all "Friiiidöööm!" on them, the recreations we get now are mostly Aristeia characters who are more "I'm like Artemis, but much cooler, so call me Artemistress"

That said, I do recall I think it was Section9 bringing it up in the old forums in a similar thread; Judge Dee for Yu Jing.
Anime, reality, or anime-reality hybrid Judge Dee, take your pick. Judge Dee is a fictionalization of Di Renjie, a magistrate in ancient China (detective-judge). Dee is notable for converting two highwaymen to turn their back on crime and assist the magistrate in enforcing justice and order to the populace. Not to be confused with Judge Dredd, though there might've been some inspiration in the latter from the former.
In game terms, Dee could use the Crane as a stepping board (although Adil already does), perhaps more appropriate could use Pheasant or Zhanying, with a special Fireteam Haris option with Bounty Hunters.

I hadn't thought they'd stopped after the Wallace thing, or at least the RPG implies otherwise- you can play as one, though they're supposed to be very expensive to commission, only really within reach of major corporations to construct without going bankrupt.

And honestly, recreating William Wallace and expecting him to not side with the underdog doesn't sound like Aleph much. I expect plans within plans.

I might be wrong, or off on details; it might be the political project (I seem to recall Wallace being an attempt to garner support among Ariadnans for the O-12 project) or the more faithful recreations that have been scrapped. I don't know when the RPG is set, either, as Aristeia characters were made at a time before Wallace went haywire and removed the "inter" from his ultra-internationalist behavioural code (exaggeration).

That said there's nothing that prevents CB from making a character be a pop-reference to a certain famous actor's role as a Vietnam war veteran struggling to cope with more modern life, or for them to have a person of American heritage run around with a large shield and be an icon of unification for the American heritage Ariadnans even though he never really throws the shield much - without Aleph being involved.

    E.g.
I wouldn't be averse to seeing a particular Shasvaasti/Morat mutation that created a particularly Herculean alien with rasta braids and real stinky breath. Say... give it NWI, Mimetic -6 camouflage, a Vorpal CCW, Adhesive Launcher or Akrylate Kanone, and a plasma carbine.
Perhaps this one already exists, though...

Use Horatio Nelson, but only give him Dogged, not NWI

We are talking people really able to take enemy positions here, mate. And Blas de Lezo certainly qualifies for TWO TIMES NWI considering it took incurable diseases to take him down for good after defending against a supposedly invincible english assault.

Nelson won against a french and spanish fleet, proving he was able to learn something after his defeat trying to take a small island 8 years or so prior ;)

Of course, we could rename the recreation Boaty McBoatface, so history repeats itself XD

Now, on a serious note, the opportunity is there after the slot freed by the Greeks (Sparta, the Odyssey and the Illiad should be out entirely); the question is which "band of brothers" could be there.
Greeks should be out to avoid repetitions, and vikings are so-so because of the Varengian Guard (and I mean it could be totally obvious... I can imagine a S5 2W+NWI CC25 Berserker Natural Born Warrior Grendel, for example).

So we could go for classic Rome, or Carthage. Alexander the Great could be shoehorned, but I think that would be more of an NA2 than a proper sectorial. Ancient Egypt, some Gaul barbarians (no, Asterix & Obelix are out, since they are @tm of Uderzo & Goscinny ^^U).

As spaniard, I think I should begin with the historical figure of Spínola, and his Tercios. Certainly appropiate, since you would have melee units, sharpshooters, and infiltrators. Mercenaries were common too.

    @SpectalOwl

I think Ned Kelly would be too much of a controversial figure. Someone like a Weary Dunlop might be a little safer, but he is not in the same level of public consciousness as the existing recreations are (likely no one from Australia or New Zealand is).

Harald Bluetooth recreation with Ghost: Jumper or Mnemonica.

There's already a well known design they can use for his unit icon too!

Lu Bu. Make him an irregular HI biker with a bow and an absolutely beastly CC profile.
