That's not strictly true. While Smoke doesn't give you -6 agaisnt Fireteams, it does help you pick the fight with the weakest member instead of whoever is on the lookout.
The Marut can definitely win a firefight against anyone, but stacking the odds in your favor is not a waste of orders, as your opponent will be less likely to avoid damage. It also depends on who is the source of the smoke. A chain myrmidon won’t accomplish much beyond chugging smoke. While an officer with CoC can accomplish specialist tasks while moving into position and showering the Marut with smoke.
How about, two Maruts. Will probably end up investing in the old model just in time for a new one to be announced, so if we have two models we might as well run two right?
Indeed. With the TAG discount, and netrods being veteran, it's quite doable. Now we can field 2 TAGs, one of the best engineer, big hacking cover AND a zayin just in case someone would still think he could get through. I would like to see the opponent's reaction :)
I strongly disagree. 1 smoke on top of the Marut allows her to: Cherry pick targets without calling all ARO on the fire lane. Discover a Camo marker and Fire at a different target (no attack order against a camo with no LoS => the marker gets no ARO). Improve odds against enemy troops without Sixth Sense or MSV 2+ (MSV1 can fire back with a -3). Also, if you manage to cover her with smoke during you opponent's active turn (because a "disposable" 16pts Myrmidon did a special smoke dodge and suceeded to cover both himself and the Marut), the enemy can suffer some trouble due to incoming fire from an ARO piece they can't see, this seems to not have changed from N3 (where I did use such tricks both with smoke and White Noise, even if the WN option is harder to survive... it's like having albedo) I tried to make a dual Sphinx list in Shas, not as good as one might thing. Both get to 8 troops (3 netrods, 1 EVO, 1 lamedh, Dart & Parvati with 1-2 Yudbots)

Hmm, very much just theorybuilding, but this doesn't look absolutely terrible to me. You could swap the Posthumans and the CSU for Parvati, although you do lose two button pushing bodies and an order.

Atalanta as an active second threat vector, or nasty ARO option; park a yudbot next to her if possible to stand her back up if needed. Smoke to permit unfair advantages to Marut and Atalanta, via either Phoenix or Myrmidons. Lists with Scylla EVO allow for Fairy Dust on the Marut, or jump assistance for the Garuda if applicable. White Noise allows Phoenix to counter MSV snipers. Baggage to reload the Danavas pitcher. Lots of repeater bots and at least one regular hacker in the Danavas to apply Targeted. Sophotect or Parvati to keep the small number of troopers from getting smaller.
Any reason why the middle two have regular Scylla and not EVO or is that just a goof? She seems redundant with the Danavas as a regular hacker to me and I'll be honest the cost just for Fairy Dust seems a bit much. I do like the heavy hitter aspect of the lists though. Shukra is more there for the Counterintelligence and protection against Isolation than if the Marut goes down, but still handy in all aspects of that. I wanted to fit a CR myrmidon in there, but wasn't as happy with the way it played out. Downgrading Parvati to a Sophotect would work in that case though.
Multiple hacking AROs via a repeater network can be helpful, and normal hacker Scylla is more of a toolbox than EVO Scylla, so including both regular Scylla and Danavas allows for multiple AROs to deal with intruding enemy hackers or inflict Spotlight. The fact that a Targeted trooper suffers both a +3 to be hit by regular attacks and hacking—and also suffers -3 to Reset—means that even without a missile bot in the list there's merit to Spotlight AROs. The Danavas brings White Noise and Scylla brings Charybdis bots with repeaters. The idea is to leave the Danavas in the DZ and push Scylla and her bots into the midfield to complete objectives or threaten the opponent's pieces, and use both of their pitchers along with the various REMs to seed a hacking network that should make life hard for the enemy's troops in the DZ and midfield. White Noise on a Charybdis bot could be useful in helping Scylla advance, or screening your other troops against MSV opponents. Scylla, Phoenix, and the Danavas lack MSV, which means that among other things Scylla and the Danavas can fire Pitchers through White Noise to avoid being shot in ARO by an overwatching MSV sniper; Scylla will likely get better numbers once she's advanced a bit. It's actually harder for me to justify taking the EVO Scylla profile, but I wanted to include a list option with her since she's potentially a better escort EVO for the Marut than a regular EVO REM.
