So, in thinking about the discussion of HD Lt.s, I was wondering if an NCO troop could use the Lt. order of an Lt. still in HD. Obviously, the army would be in LoL for this even to come up, but it got me thinking about where, exactly, that Lt. order would be for an HD Lt, if it even exists at all.

Does an HD Lt. generate their Lt. order? If not, what prevents it from being generated (this same argument would affect an HD TacAware troop, I'd assume)? If so, can it be used by an NCO troop? If not, why not?

My gut reaction answers to the above are: yes and (if that's true, I don't see how the answer to the second question could be anything other than) yes, but that requires a slightly loose reading of the HD rules (singular "order" should be read as "order(s)").

Don't have rulebook with me, but I doubt it has changed; when in LoL you do not generate a LT order and your LT needs to be deployed on the table for LoL not to kick in (there's a different thread discussing this)

Technically, LoL doesn't actually say "your Lt stops being an Lt" or "your Lt doesn't generate an Lt order." RAW, I suppose if your Lt is in Hidden Deployment or is Isolated, he is still your Lt and still generates the Lt order even though you're in LoL. In the Isolated stated, you could even still spend the Lt order on the isolated Lt since isolated says a unit can't receive orders "from the order pool" and the Lt order isn't part of the order pool.

Also, LoL says that at the end of the turn you appoint a "new Lt" but doesn't say that the old Lt loses his status, so RAW, you now have two Lts and generate 2 Lt orders total.

This is a case where the intention seems so clear that I would go the RAI route and say that the phrase "loss of Lt" implies that the state cancels the Lt status of your existing Lt, so no Lt order is generated that turn.

This is mostly what I was thinking about. Again, it's not like this can be abused at all and you'd likely want to avoid it if at all possible, but I think there may be a hole in the rules with regards to LoL and HD Lts.

If your Lt. isn't on the table or is in a null state you don't place an Lt. Order so there's nothing for the NCO to convert.

Good catch! The rules have two separate sections about the Special Lt Order and it's only in one of them.

Still means that, RAW, an isolated Lt still generates an Lt order while in LoL. But I think we're all agreed that's not the intention :-)
