Hey all Most of the discussion here is focused on our own regular units, but I've recently been looking a bit at our available mercs and where to use them. I was wondering if we could have a bit of discussion on what mercs are good and how the different profiles fit into the context of ALEPH's army compositions. I, for one, was looking at Knauf who has gotten some significant buffs. MSV lvl1 has gotten stronger, and he's got that burst 3 MSR with shock. He's competing a bit with Atalanta who's an absolute monster too, but he's arguably a better active turn profile now. Libertos are amazing. 8pt minelayer, and our army is often not maxing our SWC so there's definitely room for him.
Well, I'd say that if you have SWC to spare for a Libertos without making the effort, something funny is going on; Aleph is very SWC hungry, and the discount to all HI has been a godsend. As you say, the Libertos minelayer is a good profile because it helps making Dart and the nagas less obvious. Remracers are also a good option, they can cover a flank or protect against AD troops and can improve remotes on the cheap, plus Pb6. The Krakot is the same as in N3. The monstruckers are a good emergency engineer, and with all those pesky states, having engineers on hand is quite important, specially one with dropbears and a template. Knauf suffers the same as in N3: Le Muet is there for +7pts (essentially a Lamedh), and offers a second wound, better PH and ARM, extra -3 in mimetism, +4'' of deployment... and is better in melee. So the question is if you prefer +1 order, +1B, +shock, or +1W, an extra -3, and better options for positioning. I have both, and it's very likely I'd go for Le Muet, but I prefer Atalanta + 2 myrmidons to either one XD
I never really thought much of the Krakot in N3. I saw several lists here on the forum that had them so they probably bring something to the table, they just never really caught my eye. Monstruckers seems super cool, yeah. Besides the Proxy mk1 we never really had the option of a cheap disposable engineer like that in our army.
Krakots: - Regular Warband, brings a free Impetuous Order - have FD 4" to uncrowd your DZ - slightly cheaper than Myrmidions as cheerleaders - Metachem gives them potential access to C+ or Superjump to fight stuff on rooftops with B2 Chainrifles or Berserk - Grenades for Spec Firing in the Midfield - Veteran, better than ever with Netrods also having it. Potentially 5 Orders that remain Regular even if your Lt has an accident. Also still makes them completely immune against Isolated in case you run into some E/M or Jammers. The 14 point Grenades, DA CCW and double Chainrifle Profile has been a 2 of in all my Vanilla lists since the first time I tried them.
I like the libertos but with the level of mimitism being displayed on all camo markers, it does make which model is a libertos really easy as it is the only model with mimitism +0. Its a problem I have with the mk2 now as its the only camo in aleph with a -6. So they know its a sniper or hacker upon seeing the camo marker. An opponent who knows this faction has full knowledge of what the model under it is and so can counter it as if it wasn't a camo model. So the camo marker is protected due to its camo state, but has no private information imho.
that said, I do like the monstrucker as proxy doctor and monstrucker are a solid full healer group. Def as more remotes will need repairing as they are harder to kill dead. Its irregular but I feel it will be using an order for fixing significantly more often and for the rarer turns that it won't, drop bears are still good.
Well, that is some fine intel your are sharing. Thank you. Very interesting!^^ I would like to point out the Bounty Hunter Sniper. He is the only sniper we get for 0,5 SWC and has decreased in points by 2. I like him a lot and use him a lot. He is not capable of fighting against more specialised snipers with mods, but he is able to hold a route, that will be primarely used by enemy short to mid-range units. To be more precise: He has an eye on one or two of the midfield objectives most of the time and just keeps a low profile to everything else.
The mine is still a Camo with Mimetism(-3), so the opponent knows where the libertos is, but not which of the other camo markers is Dart, a Naga (bonus crazyness if the naga is a minelayer XD), or a mine, at least. With 2 rolls in the Booty table (choose one), I like that 12pts SMG model more, frankly, and it's not like we are lacking in the ARO departament. But it is indeed good to have the option!
Is Booty (Reroll) 2 rolls keep one? “ReRoll” in round brackets next to a Special Skill, Weapon, or Equipment will allow the user to reroll one die from the Roll, only when using that Special Skill, Weapon, or Equipment.
May not be a mercenary, but I don't think I've ever actually tried the Arjuna. What do you guys think of him? The Kiranbots have a super neat loadout but they're attached to a relatively frail guy. I've considered bringing him several times, just always ended up cutting him for other things.
I've preferred the Deva + devabot option, frankly, because Fire used to give lots of solutions. Now, E/M => x2 PB/2 rolls per impact, and causes Isolated & IMM to HI/TAG/REM (-12 reset!). So while I don't really like the models, it's a solid option, and a SO with D-Charges too. I doubt I'd choose the BSG option, because B2 AP with low range or N template, having a pistol and a shock Mksm rifle on the other option with the support bot is more than enough for me.
