"9cm is higher than almost all single-storey buildings on the market" - yeah you're right about that. But being able to just about clear a roof edge doesn't give you LoS every time, even if it's a single story building with no other obstructions to clear. The depth of your building (unless the target is elevated) will make a difference when the jump is just about clearing it, unlike walls. And yeah, I tend to play on nicely built-up boards. I'm not against the change to SJ but I do think it has a clear negative impact on units with that skill. Still capable of pop-up-shooting but need to consider terrain a lot more carefully when deploying.
I get the impression that super-jump is now supposed to be primarily about traversing terrain rather than jump shooting.
Looking at their N3 and N4 profiles, they lose 3 of them and lose mines from 3 of them. Here's the breakdown on their 'key' profiles, imo: 1) BSG+mines increases from 19 to 23, that's an increase of over 25%. That profile is your link filler, more so now than ever due to the loss of mines from every other profile, so a big jump here is significant. 2) Paramedic jumps from 21 to 24pts, and loses its mines. The profile loses the duality that made it so appealing - specialist but also mine-dispenser - whilst becoming 14% more expensive. 3) Lieutenant profile is removed from the unit. Hope this changes, as Onyx were already crazily starved of LT options, and this was one of their better ones. 4) HMG & ML go up 3pts, no changes to loadout other than heavy pistol. The other profiles were a little less popular due to their various drawbacks. Like I said, not a death knell for the unit by any stretch, but a significant price jump on a unit that also lost some of its utility. I'd be really interested to see what their points cost would be if they hadn't received CC19 & heavy pistols.
I don't rate Rodok haris too highty in Onyx in N4, but only because there are some real exceptional other choices in the independent striker / haris team space now. Umbras got good, and even the Suryat haris is an excellent choice (letting you leverage the Lt +1 Order HMG, with a tinbot to boost Kerr-Nau wildcarding in, plus another element of your choice). What a time to be alive.
I doubt it would make much difference. Alternative Pistols don’t appear to cost anything unless it’s extreme stuff like Assault Pistols or MULTI Pistols, and the CC bump costs maybe a point? Note that BSGs themselves went up by a point compared to N3, so I assume that some of the Mines were dropped to counteract that. Possibly also to give each option less overlap.
I agree, the choice between mines and paramedic is a real consideration. Having another model besides the MedTech to revive key pieces (who will likely be part of their fireteam) on their flat PH value feels pretty good. From my standpoint if the paramedic still had mines it would overshadow the other hands down. Now it is a choice which keeps will lead to different lists and keep things fresh. I agree with your suyrat haris for sure especially with that nifty msv1 heavy rocket launcher and B3 heavy pistol at a tasty 35 pts as a possible choice for the third slot. Might need to actually buy those models now! Well done CB :)
Linked Paramedics are pretty neat with the changes to burst 2 Medikits, potentially getting two rolls to heal and only needing to pass one.
I think the Rodok Haris with 2 wildcards is very appealing. I don't see the point value for a 3/5 link of just Rodoks though. I just keep looking at 93 point Sphinxes and wondering why I'm not doing that instead.
Whenever I set out to build a Rodok list in N3 I always ended up making it in MAF instead of Onyx. Maybe I’ll give it another shot in N4 - assuming I actually figure out the logistics of being able to play any games.
