I do get that point. And CB could handle this better. However, if the majority of players are find with this and keep buying CB minis, then yeah, it does make it OK. Its approved by most of the customers by their continued support. So CB has no reason to change. You should voice why your upset on the forum but again, if most people are ok with it then CB is not changing.

Since CB is very unlikely to change this aspect of their business, then I gave a more constructive solution. That being using kitbashing so your 3 DaoFeis can have 1 of each weapon type the N4 DaoFei uses.

Old is well defined at the moment of writing; if it's traditionally sculpted, it's old and up for renewal. If it's 3D-sculpted, it's new, even if it is the O-Yoroi and "test-run quality"

When is it Okay? Basically; CB makes their business selling miniatures on the promise that we can enjoy them fully and complete with a game. The miniatures that couldn't be used in game sold worse and they're winding down that side of the range. This is a miniature that's sold on the promise that it can be used in the game to some capacity and that it is correct as far as the game is concerned.
Generally speaking, I would say that once they've put a miniature out there with identifiable parts of a load-out, then that miniature is locked until it's old enough that it can be phased out or otherwise transferred, or you're going to break the promise as supplier to your customer.

Now, if they were to remove the Zhanying ML, I don't think people would bat an eye because that load out is generally disliked, so the impact on customer relations would be lowered.

It could well be that they looked at the usage numbers and thought people wouldn't mind if it went dodo on us, but they might be underestimating just how bloody awesome that Daofei model is.

P.s. they didn't actually change the fluff for the Daofei, btw, they re-used it. Would it be easy to fix? Sure. Is it easy to fix now that it's been re-affirmed in ink on a physical release? Nope, takes a lot more effort and story writing now.

P.p.s. Uh, @Triumph could you stop sabotaging "the cause" and chill with the harsh language a bit?

So the thread has just decided that HMG Daofei is not an old sculpt or a museum piece, yet you claim it is one, and will stay unsold? Cool story, anything else?

There's none that you would accept, because that would mean you'll have to stop whining. But salt must flow, and whiners must whine. And of course those who disagree are pathetic, they're not whining like real players!

Whining about what? 'Boo-hoo, CB dumped on my cutie widdle YJ again'? That's your job, not mine.

so did you find any infiltrating HMGs? as I dident, thous weapons I mention is what you usely find on a infiltrating camo unit. thats why the HMG profile on Daofei never made sense at all. its the only unit in the game with its design + a HMG. there is no other unit. only one coming up close with this setup is hellcats who use to have HMG on a drop trooper. which again made no sense, but as with Daofei HMG it was used in niche cases. but was not the intended design for the trooper. again with the Tiger drop trooper with sniper rifle. a drop trooper with a sniper rifle? its a nice profile. but in its design it makes no sense. how you cant agree on that is what I dont get at all

Because we all know the Swiss Guard is known for its CC ability. In the same way, people don't take the Dao Fei for its CC ability either.

But Benkei has 3 Dao Fei already. Thats more than you can use. Kitbashing is the price you pay for sticking with WYSIWYG. But its a self imposed priced because CB allows you to just proxy the DaoFei HMG as DaoFei Spitfire.

You're trying to argue something completely irrelevant because the HMG and Spitfire perform so closely on Daofei. Look, I get that you want to fanboy brigade CB it's just a completely nonsensical argument to try and make.

You know modern airborne soldiers use just such weapons when the situation calls for it... right?

I'm 100% sure that's not what Benkei meant by linking the spitfire Daofei

why is this irrelevant? that no other such unit in the game exist. so the odd one out gets removed? how is that not logical?

What did he mean then? That having a spitfire means the Daofei is what? a close quarters unit? Because thats not what a spitfire is for. Maybe I did miss his point. Please tell me what he meant rather than just stating thats not what he meant.

Edit: Was it to say that the Daofei is clearly part of the factional design of YJ? Maybe I got lost in the various arguments people are having here and lost track of one?

How many units have MSV2 and marker state? Are you planning to delete Intruders from the game too? The Avatar is a highly unique TAG, better delete them for having unique rules.

Go make stupid fanboy arguments somewhere else.

If you delete everything that doesn't stay in line with other units you will just end up with a bunch of the same guys in different looking armors.

yes it was a poke at CB at how easy it was to fix the fluff for Daofei. that such a small thing would of prevented so much hate.

and will 3d sculpted minis for CB ever be considered outdated by you?

Intruders, who are a staple in Nomads, and gets taken in almost every vanilla list? Avatar, basicly the living maskin of AI being unique and special? was that the best exemples? both which are getting used way more then a simpel Daofei HMG? who gets used 6 out of 36 times, from the numbers we can read?

The argument that was made was that the Daofei HMG miniature might not be part of factional design. That could to an observer like me mean either that the miniature is not designed like other Yu Jing / Invincible / White Banner units aesthetically, or that there is something about the HMG specifically that's not part of the faction design.

I think what Benkei meant with the picture was to show that the HMG sculpt is highly reminiscent of the Spitfire sculpt; that they're both very similar aesthetically; they're both shown brandishing a melee weapon menacingly with the actual gun in a "resting" or forgotten pose. Both also have the same armour and detail, naturally.

As to the other angle of argument; honestly the Spitfire is fairly similar to the HMG and the HMG is used extensively in Yu Jing including on the Hac Tao (which often competes with the Daofei for the heavy-hitter spot in the rough price category).

Counterpoint, every IS player has that model from the starter, and the appeal of the +1SWC specialist Hsien MULTI rifle, freedom from taking the designated .5 SWC Zhanying Haris profile from last edition, the likely shift towards high ARM and TAGs by enemies, ARM3 and a decent ARO thanks to sixth sense together have me looking at it with renewed interest.

This was by far the thread's biggest tantrum. What a dishonest little sook you are.

And now your argument is shifting from it's ok to piss off customers by making unneeded asinine changes to it's not ok to piss off too many customers by making unneeded asinine changes.

You are struggling to hold a coherent train of thought here.

All Pan-O miniatures are outdated to me :smiling_imp:

They will eventually, but CB has decades of releases to go before they can realistically get there, and in this specific case they'd only really get there when both the Spitfire and the HMG sculpts were considered outdated at the same time. I think releasing both was the biggest mistake, and I think they realized it was a mistake as early as during Red Veil starter rules writing when they literally told new players to proxy the HMG as a Spitfire.

I think he has a valid point. If CB wants to cut down on the number of different minis they need to produce for a unit, then removing the HMG from an infiltrating unit in favor of the existing spitfire seems like a sound decision. CB doesn't need to take this to an extreme and remove all unique units from the game nor do they need to apply this consistently for all cases of redudant weapon selections. CB can remove profiles on a case by case bases and I don't think thats somehow wrong or bad for the game.

what you on about? what am saying is Intruder got its place and its design. as do the avatar. Daofei HMG do not. which is also why more people take thous units.

PS: am not the one calling people retarded. I can hold my train of thought just fine:)
