Most factions and sectorials didn't get anything new, and OCF is getting reworked in the first wave, so they're definitely not getting left behind
Onyx also didn't really need any wildcards, Nexus and umbra could already be slotted into the fireteams. I'd like to see general umbra wildcard then samaritains could link with each other and you may see the equivalent of the legate core but in a playable fashion. in general Onyx has lived the good life, pretty much all units have at least one loadout sculpted. They've had units like the greif and kodali parachuted in. As for the betrayal units not in onyx, a mentor. I like mentors but they're already an auto include LT in one sectorial and a contender in vanilla, and I like having a reason to take Suryats in Onyx.
Most factions and sectorials got access to a wide range of wild card characters though? I don't mean to sound so negative, I always think which ever army/team I'm doing it's always getting shafted haha. What I'd LOVe to see. 1 Taiga's 2. Smoke 3. Avatar 4. A varied A-Team style Core Team Not too much to ask ;)
The EI aspects aren't available in any sectorial. They are vanilla exclusive sadly. I like the idea of an aspect sectorial. Avatar, charontid, anathematic, all the drons, REMs, all constructs. That would be very cool and thematic. But that would be a completely new sectorial...
I think my main problem with my Onyx (And I just finished the last model of the collection last night) Is that I don't feel like any other core team other than Unidrons work. I've tried the Rodoks quite a lot and they just seem to blow. I presume they're getting a 4-4 which is very nice & might help. But I'd love being able to take a Q-Drone in a link with a Samaritan, unidron and something else, Rodoks maybe etc...
If you add sheskiin and daturatzi onto the list you've basically never got a reason to play vanilla, OCF is already filled with nasty scalpel pieces. As it stands OCF is also similar in outlook to start of N3 pano, only uses TO, no warbands, it just lacks the hyper specialised/elite rank HI but gains links. I'd love to at some point see a sectorial with aspects but it seems like it's on the 'never list' since it's already pretty close to OCF and would just be vanilla with links. the only concession i'd see to putting an avatar in OCF is that Operations got the Marut as well as the asura What I'd like to see either in onyx or a future aspect sectorial is expansion on batroids and REMs in general, HI Unidrons etc some proper wierd EI tech like mechanical transmutation units etc, feels like an area CB could really go to town on.
I'd look again at rodoks, they've always been the most effective link i've played in N3, pop up ML is vile, and the HMG has the highest kill count of any model I've used in CA. I also prefer the link in OCF since you can add in a Samaritan for CC punch and a spitfire along with a legitimately terrifying close range TAG killing option and the shotguns tend to leave some health packs for the sammy to pick up.
Well the 4-2 to begin with slows them down pretty heavy when you often need 3 -4 moves just to engage, then just getting caught out mid game and not being able to reform them. That and I think they've quite expensive for a simple combi at 26 points, no smoke. End of turn they look like a right juicy target. Out of interest, can they all deploy a mine at the same time as part of one order...? Never thought about that.
If you end your turn too upfield and in the open, i don't think the problem lays in MOV 4-2... On a unit with SJ, Mimetism and HMG 5-monkey-core i don't see any problem. Moreover, pretty sure to be pimped to 4-4 in N4, so... Enjoy
Well to answer that, if you're taking a 5 man link you're looking at the best part of 1/3 of your army in 5 men, which can't then just be used as a defensive piece. Because if you're doing that then just go Unidron with sniper & AF. If you're then pushing up with the link you don't have enough movement to get to their side and cause havoc, you probably have to spend 3-4 orders just to position them. At some point they're going to be mid-field in your opponents turn, and this is usually where my link gets a kicking, last time it was Kusinagi, a time before that a missile from the JSA in an ITS. I think 4-4 will be a huge improvement, but it's still a gamble at the points cost. Maybe it will be different at 15 max men and a potential reduced cost, be nice if they got a submachine gun option at say 17-18 as well.
Now I'm a bit lost. In recent ITS seasons they start 4" up the table anyway, and Super-Jump usually means 1-2 Orders to get into a firing position from there.
I must be playing on denser boards then, or I'm just crap with Rodoks! What changes do you guys think we can look forward to for OCF then? Reduced points cost across the board and faster Mv for Rodoks, do you think we will see more units? Will something else get a pretty big buff or more ava?
@Morray HI and TAGs generally getting cheaper, MI costs could go either way. Fireteams will probably get reworked. With shotguns changes we might see some weapons shuffle there. New characters are likely, too - Umbra Nourkias, for example. And people were pointing out that Rasyats fit OCF description perfectly, maybe CB warmed up to the idea.
Ugghft do you think they'd actually give us Eclipse! That would be nice aie...That would really help getting the big boys up close and personal. I'll try and be optimistic, I guess it's just a rub off from being a Newcastle Utd fan! XD
I think their combat tactics fit, but I don't think the fact they're drawn from the most irascible, cantankerous, and xenophobic Morat Supremacist veterans would make them a good fit with the Onyx command structure.
What I'd love to see in Onyx 1. Better Suryats; haris seems to be quite a viable option as an aggresive midfield link, I'd love for them to have 6-2 move and FD 4", as well as a specialist profile. It'd be amazing if we could slot in some useful wildcards (Kerr Nau/Umbras or some new fellas maybe) 2. Cheaper and more survivable Umbras - give them shock imm and a hefty point decrease and I'll play the living hell out of them lol 3. More Shas units - it 99% won't happen, but I'd love to have a Caliban or a Shrouded in OCF 3.5 More midfield presence in general, OCF really lacks FD troops and it really shows at times 4. Maakrep with transmutation, linkable (haris only maybe, we don't want bad-Kamau-but-still-Kamau 2.0) 5. Wishlisting, but some more Spiral Corps units, to show the influence of Sygmaa - more transmutation would be super cool (Draal, anyone?) 6. Wishlisting continued (mentioned above as well) - assault/heavy Unidrons. 6-2 move, TO camo plasma rifle. Or what the nomads are getting. Aight, might be too much, but I'd love to see the OCF's REM theme expanded. In all honesty, I think OCF just needs 2-3 new units (either added, or entirely new) to fill out some of their gaps - although I'm not expecting a lot tbh
Since I'm going to be getting the Betrayal box set, It's going to be time to kick the dust off my Combined/OFC. I think I'd like a Haris option with Maakrep. It only makes sense as a "triad". Maybe a special Grief FTO that could join as well would be cool. I too would like to see EI but no more than like one. Would be interesting if they did the Skiavoros. It's possibly getting a new figure too. I think it's been overlooked in vanilla Combined due to having competition with so many other things. But in OFC it could work out nicely.
What would I like to see for Onyx in N4? Another LT option or two, and a mechanism to make Umbra better, that's all really. Both those problems really hold back the design space of the sectorial imo, for little reason.
