It is a bold and exciting time to be an Ariadnan. With our new N4 sectorial, the Kosmoflots (lol what a name), we have succeeded in being the first faction ever to put a bear into space. What an amazing time to be alive. The real gems though are that N4 lets MSV1 shoot through smoke (at a -6 penalty) and that a model can start in suppression for 1 command token. With that – this list basically leverages those cheeky interactions to create additional small, but significant opportunities that as Ariadnans we’ve never had before. WE N4 NOW. They are dogged, they are tough, they don’t give up secondaries and with Veteran troop type, Paramedic and a Visor, they have access to an obscene number of objectives. I’ve always valued pieces that can fulfil multiple roles on the cheap, and Marauders with the MSV1 change look to be one of those king pieces. For 23 god bless American dollars, they can throw down, complete objectives and with N4, shoot through smoke. Critically, they form quite frankly, a very dangerous tag-team with Highlanders as they pull of the Ariadnan version of a Tohaa Nimbus Plus/Makaul Combo. Seriously, Ariadna has always had smoke on exceptional platforms, but N4 gives us a completely new way to leverage it. The combo is so simple even a 2-iq superstar like me can figure it out. Have a highlander throw down a smoke, then the Marauder just goes to town with its Heavy Flamer, and since it’s dogged and a specialist, it can cop a hit, and just keep on going. The Kosmoladit (WE GAVE THIS ASTRONAUT A HEAVY FLAMERTHROWER, YOU WON’T BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED NEXT) T2 profile also has an MSV1, +1 burst and a Heavy Flamer, and is a Specialist, all for the low low LOW price of 37 points. Ring a ding ding baby, this is MEGA BUCKS value and it opens up the MEGA MIND STRAT of shooting TWO heavy flamer templates through smoke. If you want to burn your opponents to death (twice) with someone who looks like he works for Russian NASA, Astronaut Man Dan has got you covered. The Veteran Kazak x-visor T2 being able to start in suppression fire is also amazing. It provides so much stability and safety knowing that this bad boy is going to always be able to start in his most powerful form from the get-go. Just a small note on the Foxtrot sniper, I heavily encourage you all to give this piece a try. For 24-points, this piece is literally the goodiest boy. That sniper rifle, while it’s not T2, does have Shock, and that is all he’ll need for who he’ll be shooting. His job isn’t to necessarily set up on the backlines. Leverage the fact that he has infiltration (something the Cateran DOES NOT have). Set him up on those hard 90-degree angles (also blocked from LOS from the archetypical enemy wildcard links) only accessible by deployment in the midfield and use him as a barrier against those 0-armor dogged warbands who exist to run into mines. If the Cateran is a rook, then the Foxtrot sniper is your bishop/knight combo. With his sniper rifle and mines, he is a man for all seasons. Also, against regular opponents, he adds just that niggling sensation of threat as any of those camo tokens could have a long-range sniper shot. Tbh, I’m excited to be playing Ariadna for the next edition – there’s a lot of new stuff to try, and while the N4 changes are impactful, I don’t think they’ll be so radically different that the faction’s feel will just shift completely off-kilter. From what I’ve seen so far, I continue to respect CB’s dedication to keeping our wonderful little dice-game microcosm of a world spinning.
Marauder Paramedic nor Kosmoladit SO have MSV1. You're searching for other profiles (29 and 26 points for Marauders) to apply all the tricks you've described. The rest is fine, the Fox sniper is a good choice that often gets overlooked.
Mavericks might be pretty interesting for using new MSV1 since they can set smoke by themselves I'd also like to remind everyone that in C1 medkits heal without penalty to PH so if it stays in N4, the survival rate of poor unconcious spetsnaz units and caterans will go up 15%! (still less effective than 112 axe for spetsnaz but that requires base contact)
Dog Warriors also get recovery chances nearly on par with Haqq Doctors. Back Duroc up with a Zouave Paramedic, if they're still around, and he'll be able to singlehandedly trade with half a DZ.
Maverick BSG can still pull it off. Shotguns get a B2 template firemode in N4. Best thing is, she can provide smoke herself with her impetuous order. Same goes for Uxia with her MSV1/BSG profile.
I wonder if the forcing ARO bait in smoke is going to be fixed somehow Because now units like Ko Dali abuse it pretty handily and SMG or BS Maverick would be able to bully units without Sixth Sense just the same
From looking at Code One the main difference is that you can now do a proper Dodge rather than change facing, plus the fact that you decide Dodge movement after rolling rather than before.
msv1 Uxia can now throw smoke and B2 BSG with the new direct template for shotguns or else a B2 shotgun on 11s aint that bad as well Edit: oops didnt see the same point being brought up earlier
I think i will be more tempted to bring warbands that have shotguns because of the two direct templates and if your opponent dodges a +6 ap shot. Is a thougher proposition then chainrifle/pistol combo Verstuurd vanaf mijn SM-G930F met Tapatalk
Ho ... that's very true. Also with the 15 models limits you may have more points to spend on fewer warband !
I almost always take a desperado... or two. But this makes the MSV1 LRL Maverick look like a very nice choice.
I really like the boarding shotgun Maverick if it transitions to N4 otherwise mostly unchanged. A template weapon plus its own smoke and the speed to really motor into range just sounds amazing.
I do as well. I’d be willing to trade the two desperados I usually take for one Mav. that has a smoke, BS, and MSV1 if it can now see through the smoke! It also comes in cheaper and moves us one model closer to a Tactical Window list.
