Some time ago I shared a post on Facebook about my approach to Infinity hobby and it became quite popular. So I've decided to post it here as well :)

    ALDHIAAB TEAM

I consider myself a “narrative” player. For me game universe, story and fun are far more important than “power play”. But what that means in practice? Lots of things actually. Starting from the fact that all my miniatures (that took part in at least 5 games) get their own names and biographies and going all the way to believing that the best way to play Infinity is narrative campaign (ideally interwoven with RPG sessions).

Also when I like a new army/sectorial and want to give it a try, I start with developing their background. I really enjoy this part of the hobby and love hearing stories created by fellow players who share my views.

So here’s a background of my “basic” Infinity army — Qapu Khalqi.

No bullshit team, which spent last year fighting in Paradiso system. Their base of operations — Qapu Khalqi fleet frigate “Dhiib” (Wolf) — took part in Acheron blockade. They hunted Combined Army ships that managed to break through the gate blockade. These soldiers are a boarding team. Their commander is an experienced hafza named Nadim Kurban Zeib. They are known as “Aldhiaab” (Wolves). Noticeable fact is that this team almost completely consists of fighters gathered from Haqqislam provinces on Paradiso (Quibilah, Ghezirah and Asyut). Each member lost someone close in a war with E.I. so they all understand and recognize the extent of threat to humanity presented by Combined Army.

Nadim Kurban Zeib and his team many times faced technologically advanced enemy forces in gruesome boarding action. Wolves tactics are based on two core principles: massive usage of bots and heavy machine guns. Men enter the fray only after opposition is “softened” by the bots. Wolves unload the rain of fire upon their enemy to deny any technological advantage they might try to pull.

During their service in the blockade the “Dhiib” team developed a somewhat friendly relationship with tohaa crew of “Agreda’s Rage” ship who fulfilled duties similar to theirs in the system. Also onboard the frigate due to a longterm contract with Qapu Khalqi “works” a small Corregidor PMC called “Nomad Sledgehammers” and an infamous group of yuan-yuan (thanks to which all other soldiers can (have to) keep their hand-to-hand combat skills fresh).

Husam operative with callsign “Romiras” (my main character in Infinity universe) served with Wolves for a time, so the team took part in joint operations with hassassins, Ramah task force and O-12 mandate missions.

After the Third Offensive “Dhiib” was ordered to leave the service in the blockade and started to fulfill missions all across Human Sphere. All of those are highly classified, but rumor has it that now Wolves work for one of the best chefs of Muhafiz.

Hope you like the story :) Would be great to read yours!

    Movement 2091

“Even in an advanced society like Haqqislam there is a large mass of people doing the hard or dangerous labor, the common chores every Company needs to be done and that cannot be automated or digitalised. Corporate growth in the last decades provided the population with more opportunities to work, but without participating in the enormous growth of income amassed by the owners of the big Corporations of Bourak. This, together with the improvement of education driven by the haqqislamite government as decreed by their “Search for knowledge” led to a highly disparity in wealth between the few rich and the great mass of the people that will never ever be able to accumulate such wealth. This situation is further consolidated by Bourak's corrupt government. The first revolutionary groups emerged in the early days of Bourak's settlement. The radicalization of the groups began with the growing wealth gap and was massively accelerated by professional agitators from the Vaudeville module of Bakunin. These first revolutionary groups like the so-called “Red Banner” were swiftly isolated and smashed by the security forces after the Aswad incident, leading cadres and agitators went underground. From the remnants of these groups a loose association called The Collective was formed very soon in the underground. The individual splinter groups of this collective were united by their recourse to the anti-capitalist, anti-corporate and neo-communistic writings of Nadja Al’Makita from the 21th century. An overarching structure seems to be missing in the group, as well as the coordination of actions is unclear. This group receives financial, ideological and logistical support from the secret services of the YuJing StateEmpire and the Nomads Nation with the aim of destabilizing the haqqislamite government and economy. Our PanOceanic economy proved immune to the anti-capitalist ideology of the group. The reason for this is the good provision of our working class and their political representation in their own lobby.”
Professor Morgan K. Kovacs, Lecture “On revolutionary Movements in the Human Sphere” – Harlan-University of Neo-Canberra, Acontecimento – held 3 days before the Neo-Canberra Riots

    “Alerta Anticapitalista!”
Graffiti on a Wall in the NeoCanberra-South housing projects after the anti-capitalistic Neo-Canberra Riots

“We, the people, demand our fair share of the wealth accumulated by our labor!”
Viral message provided through hacked Maya Node XD34TK on Yutang

“Revolutions were always characterized by discourtesy because the ruling classes did not take the trouble in time to accustom the people to good manners.”
Nadja Al’Makita, “Questions asked” – Essay, only available on ArachneWiki – your free source of knowledge

“Neo-Collectivism, also known as Neo-Collectivist anarchism, is an anti-capitalistic, anti-corporate revolutionary anarchist doctrine that advocates the abolition of both state and private ownership of the means of production as it instead envisions the means of production being owned collectively and controlled and managed by the producers themselves. Theoretical basis published by Mikhail Bakunin as soon as 1870-1876 (earth), this doctrine was later revived aboard the Nomad Nation vessel “Bakunin”. Agitators educated at the Vaudeville Module spread this doctrine in the entire Human Sphere. On Bourak, the writings of philosopher and Essayist Nadja Al’Makita (nom-de-guerre Silkrist Hawker, disappearance during the second Al’Medina Uprising) sparked the formation of several revolutionary groups [refer to: Little Blue Bugs (Varuna) / Bourak Brigade (Bourak) / Movement 2091 (Bourak) / Red Banner (Yutang)]. “

Movement 2091 (or M2091) is heavily inspired by "Woken Furies" of Richard K. Morgan - the Little Blue Bugs and the Quellist movement pictured in there. I use the Hassassin Bahram Army List for profiles and all the miniatures I like no matter from what faction. Normally my Army list looks like this (just clicked togather - for a game I would change groups of course):

    Hassassin Bahram
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    GROUP 1 6 / 4 / 2
DAYLAMI (CH: Limited Camouflage, Inferior Infiltration) Light Shotgun, Panzerfaust / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 8)
DAYLAMI (CH: Limited Camouflage, Inferior Infiltration) Light Shotgun, Panzerfaust / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 8)
    MUTTAWI'AH Chain Rifle, E/Marat, Jammer, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 5)
    MUTTAWI'AH Chain Rifle, E/Marat, Jammer, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 5)
BARID Hacker (Hacking Device) Lieutenant Rifle + Pitcher / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 21)
ASAWIRA Doctor Plus (MediKit) Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser / Pistol, Shock CCW. (0 | 39)
    NASMAT Electric Pulse. (0 | 3)
ÁYYĀR (Surprise Shot L2) Shock Marksman Rifle / 2 Viral Pistols, CCW, Knife. (0 | 39)
FANOUS REMOTE Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8)
KAMEEL (Total Reaction, Repeater) Rifle + Light Shotgun / Electric Pulse. (0 | 21)
RAFIQ REMOTE Rifle + Light Shotgun, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 16)

    GROUP 25
RAFIQ REMOTE Rifle + Light Shotgun, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 16)
    FARZAN (Marksmanship L1, Forward Observer) Rifle + Light Shotgun, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 24)
    FARZAN (Marksmanship L1, Forward Observer) Rifle + Light Shotgun, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 24)
FIDAY Rifle + Light Shotgun, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, DA CCW, Knife. (0 | 31)
FIDAY Rifle + Light Shotgun, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, DA CCW, Knife. (0 | 31)

    2 SWC | 299 Points

As said, very proxy-heavy (I use Kiran-Bots for Muttawiahs and Hollowmen for Asawira to get a more REM-Look), but I stick to the official proxy rules by CB. All miniatures are converted with the right weaponry (even if from other factions - a Ariadna rifle is still a rifle, a Nomad BS is still a BS - even in Haqq) and painted in a non-uniform, civilian clothing style (I use white/neon-green Bases and dark-green Armour to tie the miniatures together. I will get you some pictures later.

Wow, some politics heavy background! Nomad Haqqislamites! Power to the People!

Some great mission backgrounds pop-up in my mind right away, like storming corporations headquarters, sabotaging mainstream media broadcasting etc.

    Great narrative!

I've been running a semi-consistent narrative through the online events I've participated in.

    The Lions of Cimmeria
The Cimmerian Reserve Garrison was a nowhere posting. For members of the army who drew a poor lot, barely passed qualifications, or had disgraced themselves or earned political disfavor elsewhere for their actions. It was a backwater where they might serve the people, not expose the government to criticism for their failures, and ideally not actually enter a firefight due to their low morale and inconsistent resupply. They were disproportionately from the American-Muslim exodus to Bourak, and disproportionately desi.

They were led by the Recreation of Omar Mukhtar, the Lion of the Desert, who would go on to give the unit his name. He had been assigned there after failing to integrate with more conventional units in the hope that he might maintain a reasonably low profile.

Then, of course, the Kurage Crisis erupted.

The Reserve Garrison was ill-equipped and faced heavy odds assisting the defense of Johnny-5, but they fought bravely and publicly, winning praise from allies they'd helped save and racking up an enormous amount of public facing propaganda footage for the home front. They weren't enormously successful, but Mukhtar used the experience to iron out the flaws in his command and turning them into something better.

When the Kurage Crisis was over, the unit was promoted. Its fell reputation gone, it was retitled The Lions of Cimmeria and used as a general response team.

They've served in this capacity through the current day, and were instrumental in Haqq Operations on Novyy Bangkok. The crisis saw them work hand-in-hand with Ramah Task Force supersoldier teams, integrating several into the unit, and saw them assault Ariadnan and PanOceanian interests on the asteroid.
I generally play Vanilla and RTF, will get some pictures later but I don't have great ones at the moment.

Well, I got limited access to the Infinity lore due to not having any major lore books in possession, so I will try my best not to botch the universe's fluff details.

Years after the Silk Revolts, post 64 NC, the Second Paradiso Offensive, Haqqislam got a solid footing in the Human Sphere, but it needs to maintain its status and seize whatever growth opportunities it gets. This includes international relations. Many would seek to disrupt Haqqislam's mutually beneficial alliances with Nomads, Ariadna, and other nations, hoping to create a political turmoil that would certainly plunge the Sphere into darker days.

Haqqislam's trading routes and international interests are protected by the Qapu Khalqi, Men At The Gate: Bourak's navy fleet, home to many mercenaries and corsairs, including Kaplans, Druze, Bashi Bazouks, and even Yuan Yuans. One of QK's detachments is responsible for keeping political peace between Haqqislam and other nations. Maintaining it can mean many different things: protecting a politician, retrieving sensitive data, eliminating dangerous individuals. In short: you keep the gears of the nation turning, maintaining every cog so that no rust or debris can ever harm the mechanism.

This is the Ulusun Dişlileri Detachment.

To keep peace with other nations, Ulusun Dişlileri Detachment, or UDD for short, field many mercenary officers of different backgrounds: Ariadna, Druze, Kaplans, Corregidor, and more. Diversity is the key to solving political disruptions: approach the issue from different angles, apply pressure where needed, loosen the grip if that creates the intended effect. If an ally faction is about to have a political outrage – this unit is the first to respond. They are detectives, net runners, and field operatives, but above all – they are professionals. The UDD are hidden from the public eyes and often have to do the dirty work to give the Hachib some political leverage or prevent the opposing nation from gaining one. The only reward they get is money – no boost to reputation, no glowing recommendations for people serving in this unit.

The general range of their operations usually falls into the category of "too delicate for an outright QK assault but not pressing enough to mobilize the Bahram". If Hassassins are used to strike Haqqislam's enemies where it hurts the most, UDD are more diplomatic in their approach, focusing on helping other nations instead of sabotaging them. As a result, joint operations with Nomads, Ariadna, and PanO are most commonly performed within that unit. They are the people who scratch your back so that later on you scratch Hachib's back in return.

The UDD are stationed at Göz – a heavily modified corvette requisitioned from Qapu Khalqi's navy. The ship is helmed by the Hafza Commander Enver Saad. After having additional officer training courses on Dawn, Cmdr. Saad learned a little bit about Ariadna's methods of warfare. None of them meet the ideological standards of Haqqislam, but hey – if it works, it works.

The main ground operations are done by the Djanbazan team under the command of Sergeant Aman Bashir. They are also partially responsible for the so-called "persuasion by force" that they impose on some of the not-so-cooperative HVTs.

Whenever the situation demands to negotiate and diffuse a potentially volatile situation in a non-violent manner, Odalisque agent Funda Zayid comes into play. Coupled with Leila Sharif, these two are the main intel collectors and eavesdroppers in non-hostile environments like caravansaries and densely populated areas.

Like any QK detachment, UDD features many line and support troops for various duties from ship maintenance and security to cargo transporting and patrols.

Now, if there is a need to collect some intel located in a hot zone with confirmed enemy presence – Cafer Daud is the one to do it. Being an Al Hawwa, he also runs the counterintelligence network on their ship, making sure no one cracks their fake ID signature and breaches their logs' database.

Sabotaging, counter-sabotaging, and VIP escorting operations are left to a small Kaplan unit called "Gidenler" under the command of Hal Sullivan. These are the goodie-two-shoes of the UDD. Their Kaplan reputation is above all else, but that does not mean they rarely see action – quite contrary. Given that UDD's range of operations often includes VIP protection and diffusing situations able to spark a war – this unit sees the most demand on board of Göz.

The Druze have also found their way into the UDD with their particular set of skills for net running, interrogation, and demoralizing shock tactics. They are rarely deployed in UDD's operations for obvious reasons, but when there is no other choice to accomplish the objective – these cold-blooded scumbags are guaranteed to do their job. Given that they don't see real action all that often, they tend to blow off steam onboard of Göz, picking a fight with other crew members and just being assholes in general. Luckily, all of the misunderstandings and conflicts can be settled down at sparring in the gym. Their favorite targets are undoubtedly Sullivan's boys from "Gidenler". Should there be a political prisoner held onboard of their corvette, Dave Horrigan would be the one to do the talking with the poor bastard in hopes of pulling out vital intel (and, occasionally, a fingernail or two). The man has quite a reputation among the crewmates who coined a saying: "Dave is a hacker, but he doesn't hack terminals – he hacks people."

Göz is always being watched out for. Even if some curious vessel manages to unmask the corvette's true ID tag – there is always a couple of corsair starfighters flying nearby just on the edge of the system, ready to intercept those who dare to engage UDD's starship. This crazy bunch is the Kharaab Squadron. The fighters are piloted by some of the most unpredictable individuals this side of the Sphere has ever seen, many of them Bashi Bazouks and Yuan Yuans.

Finally, if there is boarding action inbound and the ship has to be held off by whatever means necessary – a young Janissary fireteam coupled with a lone Azra'il under the command of NCO Demir Lamjarred will coordinate the ship's defense, setting up barricades and boobytraps. The fireteam was trained alongside a Sekban regiment, learning many tricks from the experienced veterans of the Silk Revolts who fought tooth and nail for every station and caravansary. Should their defense fail – Demir would make sure to not leave any intel or prisoners to the enemy. Densely packed explosives near the ship's main reactor with a remote detonation will take both the ship and everything within the 50 km. radius with it.

The Nomads are on good terms with Haqqislam right now in no small part thanks to the UDD. After a very successful joint operation with the Jurisdictional Command of Corregidor, UDD gained a new ally through the Iguana operator named Zan. His TAG is an old and battered war machine that has seen a lot of action. At some point, the operator got the exosuit's right arm so badly damaged that he had to reverse-engineer a Guija's arm to accommodate for that. While being the most impressive of all of the UDD's blunt instruments, Zan is also a contact man for Nomad-related operations. He also may serve as a negotiator on Corregidor, Bakunin, or Tunguska, should UDD's business take them there.

I've been so out of touch due to this Pandemic I can't believe I never posted my Sand Cats here. Let's remedy that:

Sand Cats Tactical Security LLC started as a Privateer Company with a Letter of Marque from The Funduq Sultanate. Owned by Captain Nazeem Barakat, the company was investigated by the Haqqislam Anti-Contraband and Ant-Counterfeit Agency for being involved in a Cube trafficking operation. Unfortunately, with the death of Captain Barakat, the trail went cold. The investigators requested his daughter, Sireen Barakat, an Odalisque loyal to Qapu Khalqi, to take over the company and help them track down the rest of the Cube Smuggling Ring and its end-users. Aboard the Desert Duchess, a modified Assault Carrier, the Sand Cats have seen action in every mayor conflict in recent years, always hot on the trail of the associates of Sireen Barakat's father.
