I'm trying to come up with some good proxy options for a few units here and there: Wardrivers a second Hunzakut (maybe a Chasseur?) Bashi Bazouks #3 and 4 in case I ever decide to max out AVA Monstrucker (Scarface pilot, or an Irmandinho?) Authorized Bounty Hunters, since the only sculpts I like are the biker and the incredibly-expensive-on-ebay heavy armor ABH; these may end up being conversions I guess? Some deployables—I don't really like the look of most of the game's deployable models for what they are, and even if I did, I don't want to buy multiple Dire Foes duplicate boxes just to get Mad Traps This whole exercise got me wondering what other people are doing for proxies. So, what are you using to proxy models that don't exist (yet) or that are stuck with woefully outdated or hard-to-find sculpts?
What army are you running (because for Mercs, pulling units from armies you don´t play would be the best choice I guess). My take at some of them: - Second Hunzacut - the new Ariadna Spec Ops, - Monstrucker, I actually love your proxy ideias, - ABH, I actually like the Kaplan or Zhayedan, they have a nice merc gritty look
Mercenary units like the Monstrucker, Wardriver, ABH, CSU etc are licences to pick up whatever LI you like from other factions, even Dire Foes can be a good source of proxies (I'm eying up Jelena Kovacs as a CSU currently). My current favourites: Wardrivers I have the official one now but have seen people use the Midnight Sun Analyst. At first I just used Valerya or a Fusilier/Croc Man hacker from my other faction. a second Hunzakut (maybe a Chasseur?) Bought the rifle/LGL Hunzakut and converted her to a Chasseur, I reckon turnabout is fair play :) Bashi Bazouks #3 and 4 in case I ever decide to max out AVA Yuan Yuan and Ragiks have the right backpacks, there's still a few places like Meeplemart in Canada that have the Fat Yuan Yuan in stock. Monstrucker (Scarface pilot, or an Irmandinho?) Personally I find the shotgun Irmandinho to be one of CB's best models, use that. Grab whatever LI you like from other factions, even some MI and Skirmishers can play the part. This is where having multiple factions comes in handy as I can grab models that are obviously mercs/out of faction.
For Bashis, any LI with the right weapon would work. They parachuted in off the board, so presumably they left their parachutes behind at the landing site like any paratrooper would. On that logic, I painted up a box of Shaolin Monks for use as Yuan Yuans in SoF events. Monks from the sky!
I made my own drop bear markers (sculpted and cast my own robot koala head). I use Chasseurs for Monstruckers. Redhat wearing truckers. In camo. Burnin' coal. Haven't used a bounty hunter yet, so haven't done any conversions. {strike this. I just converted a Machaon into an Adam Jensen for my O-12 force as a bounty hunter.
for drop bears I took the head of a fast panda and made a mild and green stuff copy of them . works quite well.
a spare mechanist is my monstrucker, else it usually is light infantry of a different faction of I need another proxy, but as I do own the HI bounty hunter there is not so much need to proxy those.
Midnight Sun Analyst is a pretty great proxy for almost any specialist in Nomads; I highly recommend him as a Clockmaker, Interventor or Puppetmaster proxy for people who are just starting. This should be one of the first models people new to Nomads should buy because he's simply so versatile. KHD Druze = Moran. Moran's are models that desperately need proxies, and this gets a beautiful model onto the table that wouldn't see it otherwise. Locust with Spektr BSG and Spektr Knife Arms = universal SK proxy. I built him as my StarCo Al Hawwa but he sees service as any SK I'm a model down for, usually a second Moran.
Hunzakut: I use the Khawarijs (FO):and the Tuareg (Sniper) from Red Veil as additional Hunzakuts Bashi Bazouks: I converted the Beyond O:IS Hellcat with a Posthuman SMG (right arm) and the Tiger Soldier Jumppack. The Akhalis CombiRifle got the Hellcat Jumppack slapped on his back - absolute faction crossover fitting for Mercs Monstrucker: I use the ChainRifle Irmandinho Authorized Bounty Hunters: I use Locust Hacker as Sniper, Ryoken HRL weaponswapped with the Bandit Boarding Shotgun and the Chasseur weaponswapped with the the Ranger SMG and Machete arm. The old Intel SpecOps armed with a Knife (no weapon) is used for generic profiles like SMG, Red Fury and Spitfire.
Lately for my O-12 I've been using Hakims as Varangians. As the shotgun and smg cover the options pretty well The CyberDancer SMG has been my goto for the Lynx assault pistol/plasma carbine. Revealed Cho has been covered by the guija pilot And I've rather liked using the Namurr Spitfire as a MSV2 Deva
I used Bipandra as a Trauma Doc for my Military Orders for years. Even though technically selectable for the faction Bipandra is perfect as a proxy without causing confusion for opponents because who would ever use that character for real?

KHD Druze is an excellent universal proxy. She has a pan o rifle, druze pants, looks like a merc, and a casual pose. I use her a Leila Sharif or Monstrucker. I think she'd also work as a Moran, any engineer profile, tag pilot... Very useful generic sculpt, which by the way, does not at all look like a killer hacker that it is intended to lol.
I like to use the Odalisque Spitfire as an Asura Spitfire, and the Lasiqs as Mk2 Proxys or Dasyus (whichever TO Camo I'm running that game)
This. I finished him 1-2 months ago just for this purpose. Before I used Ms. Gromoz or the Comm Tech from the Dire Foes range. The original Clockmaker is so ugly for me, I sold him out of the box and kept only the Daktari. The only one more ugly in my PoV is the old Pan O engineer. Thankfuly he got a new model. Speaking of the new Pan O Support Box, Bipandra was my go to Trauma Doc. Beside of this, I use the spec op models for proxing some units that have no models now. But honestly I try to avoid proxying a lot.
