    Invicible army : builds for armor lovers

    Hi guys,

    Just wanted to discuss about the different archetypes of army lists you can build in IA.
    This is not a big tactica on how to win your games, but more a kind of guide to discover all of this sectorial trought the main lists you can build around.
    Let's start with the basics :

    Zanshis core + MSV2 Haidao is one of the best ways to build an IA army, and with a close-to-auto Lt Daoying L2 90% of IA army lists have the following architecture :

    Orders : 10 Regular, 1 Tac Awareness, 2 lt orders eaten by NCO
    ARO : Heavy Rocket launcher + Sniper MSV2 buffed by a core fireteam. Flammenspear is bonus to deal with TO
    ACTIVE : A Spitfire Mimetism and a Multi rifle Camo TO. They are both nunder protection of KHD.
    Specialists : 1 Paramedic, 2 FOs, 2 Hackers, 1 Baggage
    -> here it is, the most common way to play IA (variations allowed by different SWC costs on the mowang, replace Hac Tao by whatever you want)


    But I am here to show other ways to play IA. Because over-optimization is a bad thing for table diversity, and for your fun. I'll allow the following lists to have some flaws. Yeah guys, you aren't going to play flawless list . So let's start by having a quick view at what IA cannot bring to you :

    - smokes
    - warbands
    - high tech things
    - anything more than limited insertion (or not ?)
    - any non brutal ways of murdering the ennemies of the state empire

    and what things it will drown you in :

    - orders
    - HI fireteams
    - counter hacking
    - flying exploding HI
    - TO HI
    - assassin HI
    - Mimetism HI
    - Camo HI
    - light HI

    That's it, you are the child of the best HIs in the game powered by many orders. You are one of the best alpha strikers in the game. Laught at the salt, setup your power armor and let me present you why you came here :

    Orders: 10 regular, 3 TA, 2NCO -> 15 orders in limited insertion
    AROs: Heavy Rocket launcher, Boosted Rui Shi Spitfire (in smoke cases)
    Active: HMG, Spitfire, Mk12 is no joke
    Specialists: Chain of command, 2 Hackers, 1 Engineer, 1FO (half of your list)

    Cons :
    - Many points in one fireteam
    - No sensors

    Pros :
    - Dinosoric firepower
    - HI on 60% of your profiles
    - Mega order pool

    Alternative ways of build : Put Quiang Gao as HMG platform and Daoying as assault or ARO. They both share the Lt2 you need to power trough the table. The Rui Shi can also be traded to a TR HMG if you trade some orders/equipment.

    Tactica :
    Best thing is havig the first turn. Power throught the table with NCO + TA. Keep regular orders to engage. Remember to keep some orders to fall back when needed. If you go second, don't hesitate to use ARO's wisely : the best is to force the opponent to take trades after having spent some orders, with +3BS/+1B and a HI stat line you can hold, loosing some people is fine.
    Zencha is here to support either by doing the objectives or mining to protect your ft.
    Rui shi can either be used as ARO or ACTIVE piece.

    Tips :
    - when going second always remember to remove 2 orders from main opponent pool if possible. You want him to have issues reaching you.
    - if you are on the mid table, it's OK to put the Ft in SF mode and put them together in next turn. In SF mode you shoot to 24". No ones want a B3 24" HI in their midfield.
    - In active, the Shang Ji can obliterate packs of ennemies.
    - Use the template weapon of Tai sheng to protect close range
    - the Rui shi can protect some firelanes and force opponent to loose orders / come closer to the train

    Cons :
    - No MSV

    Pros :
    - Surprise power
    - High snowball potential
    - Discover the secretly OP unit of IA : the fear of the Liu Xing

    Alternative ways of build : Keep EVO + 4 Louies. Add Smart missile launcher and some FOs. The "Spotlight" program allows nasty HI targeting across the table.

    Tactica :
    Dive on order pools, kill key pieces of your opponent with whatever approach suits you. Nothing can hide from your explosive jumps. This list is abusive by nature, and is more a way to learn how to use Liu Xings than a balanced team. But don't get me wrong : if the opponent isn't ready to take 4 HI combat jumps...he's going to have a hard time.
    Use the 2 Boarding shotguns hackers to breach the defense (either physical of hacking)
    Use the spitfire to slaugther the backlanes using the breach.
    Keep the specialist operative for the mission once the table is cleared.
    2 TR HMG can be upgraded by Daoying Lt2 and become long range murder machines.

    Tips :
    - current ITS allows you to land on single point. Abuse this and land in appropriate places
    - Explosion on the Liu Xing is nice, but it's better to land safely and do a carnage than dying in the middle of an ennemy group.
    - use the boarding shotguns to death, they are close to useless in ARO.
    - use EVO command tokens to support your hacking assault.


    Fine. Now you have seen why you came here. The zanshi core, the pain train and the mad-combat-jump list. What's next ? Boy, this is only the beggining.

    Many people say that you cannot play Guijia in IA, and I totally agree. You need to support it with another big TAG-like monstruosity. We fortunately have this kind of things in our baskets. Time to use the giant robot.

    And yes, we called the Zanshi defensive core and the Haidao Msv2 for this one.

    Cons :
    - vulnerable to hack
    - low active models count
    - your Lt is your main assault piece

    Pros :
    - Two big armor, hard to kill units controlling midfield
    - Solid defensive core

    Alternative ways of build : Remove Krit + Pangguling and play with the duo options / defensive core equipement.

    Tactica :
    Do not over extend. Use the two panggulings as hacking net protection : the linked Zanshi hacker isn't the best but has a nice burst and +3WIP on hack rolls. The Mowang and the core protect the flanks of the Guijia. Saw everything off in your active turn with your murder machine tag. Kokram is here to repare and do the suicidal things, he's a good support unit, remember that he is a HI with template weapons.
    -> take the most out of the core link and the two duos. This is the only advantage of using IA and the Guijia

    Tips :
    - Mowang can be used wisely as an ARO piece either in SF mode (-9 opposition in cover/SF/mimetism)
    - Third turn, advance defensive core for objectives and surprise B4 combi rifles.


    You are still here ? Not complaining about effectiveness but enjoying different gameplays with this faction ? Wow ! Let me introduce you one of the most brute-force profiles of the game.

    Yan-Huos are often discredited because of the existence of the Mowang. While Mowang is an assault piece with mid range weaponry (and thus an increased endurance with mimetism) the Yan-Huos benefits high BS and horrible Gargantuan firepower. Here you field both of them, laughting with insane bursts at your opponent wondering why you are doing that.

    Cons :
    - two models concentrate 2/3 of your firepower

    Pros :
    - flat bs power
    - surprising effective duo.

    Alternative ways of build : Switch lieutenant between Zanshi and Yan Huo

    Tactica :
    Kill everything in active with HRMC and everything in reactive with Missile launcher. Do not believe they are invincible. Use them to slow down the opponent, not stop it.
    You have a really handy ft duo : shang ji and Haidao. Together, they bring the tinbot B and the KHD that are going to protect your Yans.
    The synergy Zencha / Smart ML is always handy as you can seek what is hidden from your HRMC. This team is all about using brute firepower (even more than the others).

    Tips :
    - Shang Ji can be effective as Active piece, even with combi rifle !
    - HRMC is burst 5, it's 25% of crits. Use and abuse it. If you stay from far you have BS17. Even a TO hidden is hit on 8's. Just use it.
    - Missile launcher is doing Exp damage. As you can always select the moment where you fire on the ennemy, it's a good idea to use him against warbands : when they come out of cover, select the moment where your missile could touch other minis. With B2, the Exp is deadly.
    - Use the zencha to slow down the game.


    It's 1 AM, I'm loosing my mind. We used almost every units. You know what ? I'm gonna use him.

    There is one profile that no one will ever use. The poor hulang. I still managed to make him work in this wonderfull list:

    Cons :
    - this list is a joke

    Pros :
    - We'll make everything we can to let the hulang push buttons so he'll be happy before we put him back in his box

    Alternative ways of build : do whatever you want I love this guy but he's so...alone

    Tactica :
    Everyone will tell the hulang that he is awesome to boost his ego. His special-crucial-top-secret mission will be to push 1 button during the game.
    The haris will push to the midfield to give the Hulang confidence to get out of his cover.
    A Zencha in Camo will protect the Hulang to avoid people hurting him, even if we said the Hulang that we have high hopes in him pushing the button.
    The Hac Tao Missile Launcher TO will protect the dead angle of the hulang, ready to give his life to save this insecure little sh**.
    The Mech engineer will be ready to remove any glue put on the Hulang
    The Remotes will send dubstep music in the Hulang razor headset to make him feel like in a movie.

    Tips :
    - Ask the opponent to don't touch the hulang. If he does so, give him a major victory.
    - don't hesitate to put the hulang in an over-protected place like a rooftop. But don't forget to let him a scale because he has no climbing +.
    - when he moves, ask kindly the opponent to do discover ARO's, just like if he was a Camo token.
    - don't forget to tell him that his parents are proud of him
    - wait N4

    I feel better now that the Hulang has a sense of accomplishment. Please let me come back to a more serious setup, the one that will allow you the more flexibility :

    This lists revolves around one of my favorites core of list buildings in IA : the Zuyong haris. In this list, I choose to play the "executive order" of the Hac Tao HMG. Take a look :

    Cons :
    - no MSV2 counter
    - the strategy can be obvious
    - low specialists count

    Pros :
    - this setup allows risky overextended moves
    - the opponent fears a HMG TO or a Spitfire Combat : Jump
    - great active turn gun platforms
    - nice way to learn fo to use a pain train with less risk
    - use the Yan Huo as a pressure piece. He's big and worth a lot of points : he'll certainly open interesting attack angles for the Hac Tao

    Alternative ways of build : Switch hac tao for Liu Xing Spitfire. Learn them to fear the Liu Xing drop

    Tactica :
    Use you Zuyong Core to advance on midfield. From there you got two choices : fall back or overextend. In the first case, just go back and take care of the ft. you already did a great job. In the second case, go nuts with Zuyong Lt and put him in a order-hungry place. Be sure that the Hac tao will be revealed either by an ARO (warbands..etc) or with his order.
    Once Hac tao is revealed, it doesn't matter if HMG zuyong dies as your ft is 4 members : you'll still have +1B, and you should be in a good place whith combi rifle.

    Tips :
    - Hac Tao is best to be revealed in your 2nd turn, when the opponent already has spent orders
    - Think the Zuyong Lt and Yan Huo as magnets. They are juicy, and targets will take risks to come for them. Make sure that it will create attack windows for the hac tao.
    - you have a daoying hacker. The opponent will believe that this is the Lt as usual ( a wise opponent will see absence of NCO). This piece is nice to put in the midfield once the haris and hac tao sawed everything of. This is also a nice defensive piece with the +6 at low range. Don't underestimate her lethality.

    Cons :
    - You cannot field both haidaos in ft
    - Aro is weak
    - Opponent can cut in you orders, this is not alpha strike

    Pros :
    - use of command token to have dynamic fireteams (you can field a core with VMS2 if you need)
    - multiple attack vectors
    - 17 orders with HI
    - The opponent isn't used to see such list.
    - no one knows if you field a TO or drop unit before counting your points
    - very inventive list with choices in-game

    Tactica :
    The key in this list is the fact that haidao has free agent, and that you can have dynamic fireteams. If you start second and need a punch with ARO's, do a core with Haidao VMS2, Pangguling, Son bae and zanshis.
    If you go first, either the Mowang or the Zuyongs will have 6-9 orders to strike, could then do a haris with the KHD haidao in order to boost your burst in active turn


    Tips :
    - as the offensive ft cannot exist with the defensive core, use and abuse SF (especially with the Mowang)
    - the two haidaos can go anywhere with free agent. You can even put the MSV in the Haris !
    - if you need a really solid hack punch, you can field the KHD in the Core and use the 8pts Pangguling as a proxy

    Tactica :
    Your Core link is here to either Alpha Strike or take the mid field.
    The Haris will send death threats by Dual missile launcher and secure your core with KHD.


    Tips :
    - If you go second, defend only your midfield, remember that all of your army is HI linked (2B ARO on EVERYONE) and will be a pain to put down
    - Kokram's Feuerbach is really handy to bring down heavy targets (sometimes even more that the HMG)

    I hope that you liked these lists, and that they will help you to open your mind to other ways of playing IA.
    Next time, I'll talk with you about the power of the 9 regular order lists, but this is another story.

    Don't go to the dark side ! Yes sometimes you need to call them ^^

    I love Guijia lists in IA. It really emphasizes over the brutality of the sectorial.
    The easy presence of 4 cheap repeater remotes (8pts each) + having a hacking in a link, even a bad one, protects enougth from other hacking treats.
    Kokram profile is quite costy, but imo it fills several roles that are quite hard to put in the same guy : ARO duty (either mid range with feuerbach or close range with templates), engineer, HI model and Zuyong ft. This is why I really like to field him.

    Your lists seems close to "3 - when dinosaurs walked on earth", I like the presence of the Daoying for the +1 order on the Mowang and camo hacker.
    This is a nice alternative to mine where the Guijia benefits the Lt order + another solo Panggu to cover a side.

    These lists leads me to think that we only need a NCO profile on the Guijia to make it a "special" TAG (such as the MSV2 of the Marut)

    There is a particularly fun variant of the Zhanshi Core that's always worth a try, as long as your local meta actually has Hackers and Hackables in it- the 4 Zhanshi Hacker+Shang Ji Tinbot setup! Plenty of points and SWC left over for whatever tickles your fancy- any of the Haris teams, a Guijia, or even just REM spam for more repeaters and Supportware fodder can all fit.

    Very nice list-ideas and very near to what I put out, while I make some ITS lists for every mission, as I was boring :-)
    I already tried out some different approches, but latest I stick with the Zhanshi/Haidao core and Tai Haris in 2nd group.

    I think this will not work. The Yaozao will prevent Krit to duo with the Guijia.

    What about a Haris and a core of three zuyong & friends?

    Not all eggs in one basket, more flexible, and can form a five man core if need be.

    I love to do these kind of things in Biotechvore missions. With these 2 fireteams, you move 8 orders quickly into the midfield, avoiding losses due to the virus.

    @archon you are right ! "A G: Servant trooper and its Doctor/Engineer cannot be part of a Coordinated Order nor be a member of any type of Fireteam, unless specified otherwise." Didn't know about this one, it's specified only in the servant FAQ.-> I updated the post to remove both the advice and the Yaozaos ;)

    For me the main reason why YJ IA looks very alluring are all those HI options, and I am grateful for these interesting lists.
