    Considering that it is the Active Player who decide the final placement of the engaging model, i highly doubt that the mine would ever be cancelled...

    Yes, and I completely forgot about the fact that the mine can be laid anywhere along the path of movement so, really there is basically zero chance of the mine not going down on an engage.
