Hi everyone! I've been thinking for a very long time to enter Infinity and after considering that I wish to play Tohaa, Nomads or Aleph, I've come to idea of playing Aleph due to nice miniatures which captured my sight. I'd like to play vanilla, because I don't really like both Myrmydons and Thorakites design for Steel Phalanx, and because of that I simply don't understand where to start: there is no vanilla starter anymore, and OSS starter units is in Operation Coldfront, so it's hard to find someone who want's to split this box. Is there any suggestions what should I do then as a new player?
Hello, and welcome to the forums You're right, there's no vanilla starter for Aleph for now; the only way to start would be either to find someone to split Coldfront (and Beyond Coldfront) with, find someone trying to sell off the Aleph part of those sets, or buy them yourself and sell off Ariadna. It's possible that older sets will be repacked into faction starters (we know Kaldstrom will end up like this, but only next year), but I wouldn't count on it happening anytime soon.
So, is there any nice way to start playing Aleph except buying not so attractive SP? Or it's just better to stick at least to them and then switch Thorakites to something more interesting?
Eventually all of the ALEPH models in wildfire and beyond will be put together in an action pack. At this point, if you can afford it, I’d recommend getting the wildfire box and wildfire beyond. If you’re new and you want to bring a new player in, you’ll have an Ariadna starter that the other player can use. Ariadna models can also make reasonable proxies for mercenaries that show up in an ALEPH army. Also, the terrain that comes with wildfire is good to have if you don’t have a table yet.
I'm trying to find someon from my city to split box but it is very hard... So my think is to surrend and buy SP starter set, and expanding it with minis that I really like
I found one last in stock at Amazon but unfourtanutely it does not shipper to Russia. I'll search at auctions but have hight doubts that I can find barely anything
Consider that Coldfront will also give you a nice opposition ‘loaner’ force, to allow you to introduce friends to the game :) That said, Here’s a link for split boxes : https://www.minyarts.eu/search?query=Coldfront
Coldfront is the last of the old sets, so we don't know if it'll have Action packs. Likewise, the other old Operations had Starters from theirs, but Coldfront didn't get ALEPH or Ariadna spun off. So... we kind of don't know what will happen to them. Ariadna at least has another starter, but it's also possible that next years Operation will include new ALEPH. The Action Packs are Code One stuff, so I don't think we'll get ALEPH any time soon since it's just O12/CA this year.
There is something else I want to ask. I've saw a lot of posts that players struggle to use Penthesilea even in SP, and since I like her model and mostly dislike everything else in SP: will she be so bad in vanilla least, or maybe she is usable at least as order pool threat, while everything else will be from vanilla?
She’s awesome! Her large silhouette and dodge penalty for being on a bike can be tough. Thankfully, she is normal impetuous and not extremely impetuous, so you don’t have to spend that order. Asa model with NWI, she can die quickly if you’re not selective with where you apply her, but she is fantastic for shooting down line infantry, models covering flanks, and even engaging the occasional TAG to wipe it off the table (although her I-kohl doesn’t come into play there). Dismounting once she’s across the table can be very useful for keeping her silhouette small and keeping her out of unwanted LoF.
Is she plays the same way in vanilla without very good smoke coverage from Myrmydons? Or smokes and eclipses are must-go for her?
You can cover her advance with smoke or just clear out the things that would shoot her with a Dakini hmg. Different tactics for similar results.
She’s harder to use than most, and sometimes you’d want her to be a little more specialized. But she is one of the fastest models in the game, combined with decent defenses and an optional order. Personally, I’d rather have 3 daikini medics at the price, but I also mostly run Achilles and Patroclus in my Aleph, so the need for speed is less prevalent.
Hyppolita + Dart. Awesome chars and combos in vanilla. Really good skills, waepon set up and mobiilty.
Hello, sorry for digging this up, but I didn't want to start new tread and there is already ALEPH OperatioS Action Pack (made from Coldfront & beyond box) Me and my son are playing Yu Jing and Haqqislam, but we also have Coldfrond & beyond. I'd like to expand ALEPH from Coldfront to invite my colleagues to play with us, so I'd like to ask for your recommendations. I know I want Asuras hacker for sure, as it has impressive profile, but I'm not sure what to buy next. Can you give us some advice? Maybe Yadu box + Dart? I have also Authorised Bounty Hunter on motorbike to proxy Penthesilea if needed.
I would recommend the Dakini SWC box, One of the SWC boxes to recommend. Garudas are great too. The new Naga is something to resonsider as well as the danavas. Dart andAndromeda are solid. Proxys/Posthumans are great, netrods and the sophotect are a staple.
I second the Dakini SWC box. The Netrod/sophotec Support box is another to pick up, along with one box of Rebots. (if you decide you want more of the small bots, the O-12 copperbots pack uses the same chassis, so you get some visual variation while keeping the style identifiable) Grab 1 Garuda. Dart/naga/andromeda/danavas are all good to get at some point. The Chandra spec ops is also good as a proxy for several things, I used her as Trisha pre-covid, and gives you some spare weapons of you want to try converting stuff. I'd actually say only grab the posthuman 2G box if you're going to play proxys, most of the first posthuman box can be represented with other models (sophotec for Mk1 doctor/engineer/hacker, Coldfront naga or the 2G rifleman as the Mk2 sniper, etc) The Yadu unfortunately you don't need more than 1-2, which Shakti and the one from Coldfront are adequate to represent, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you want to get the whole collection.
