I think it's very likely that the ninja will be entirely separate from the architecture.

I truly hope so but looking at how close one of the horns is to the left leg, I have a bad feeling about this. In worst case scenario, left leg and right feet will be part of the tactical roof. I'm also afraid tactical architecture might be as expensive as tactical Buddhas.

And even if the whole body is completely separate from the roof, you will have to reposition at least the right foot. For me, this miniature is the worst design case CB could do: a fantastic sculpt with a much needed profile completely and needlessly ruined by a good looking (even that roof looks fantastic) but utterly useless part (exept for a diorama or YJ-themed base).
That's why I am so disappointed.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of that sort of base, either. I had to do a fair amount of work for both my Noctifers to have them not using the staircase they come with. (Same one the Cateran has; I ended up trading them to an Ariadna player)

I love the scenic bases for display purposes, but it’s really odd to see a guy perched on a chunk of Japanese rooftop decor in the middle of a city street or the cargo bay of a space station, or sitting casually on an ammo crate.

I mean, given that technically the game is playable with a series of appropriately sized cylinders marked to indicate facing and unit ID, it’s a matter of taste. The tactical scenic bases aren’t so much a playability issue as an intensification of the same weirdness that happens when your flocked, snowy bases are used on a desert board, or a jungle base shows up in an urban sprawl. It makes sense that some players just use clear plastic discs for bases; I’ve considered it myself, for...uhhh...suspension of disbelief factor...I guess?

Between Liang Kai, the new ninja, and the new Combined trooper’s tactical wall, it seems like we’re seeing more scenic bases than usual? I wonder if that’s a quirk of the current state of releases or a sculpting trend.

Sappers have always been modeled with cover on their base to represent the foxhole. The new Haiduk looks like he'll fit on a 25mm base without the wall though, so you could get 2 to represent them dug in and moving normally.

It'd be interesting if there was a giant oriental courtyard set that they all fit into...
Also worth mentioning that the base being this detailed will add a couple bucks to the price. Not a big deal, but still adds up, especially if you're just removing the base to use your own.

If Liang Kai doesn’t need to be on the statue base, I might try to base it separately as a custom Objective marker and perch him on some urban rubble or something. It looks like it’ll make awesome scenery just on its own.

I don’t dislike tactical junk on bases , but the problem with this ninja is the dragon had a face . Your eyes are drawn to the dragon, not the faceless ninja.

it is a very distracting design which detracts from the excellently designed and sculpted ninja. The base should be a support player, allowing a dynamic pose. Not 50% of the mini.

And for these reasons I’m out.

My main issue with the tactical roof is that it seems to be rising out of asphalt. Not enough to stop me getting it if Imperial Service gets the SMG profile, but I'll consider painting the dagron wooden to prevent what @HotFreshTofu was complaining about.

No ninja profile (either JSA, Yu-Jing or a Yu Jing sectorial) has a ninja profile with SMG. Do we know who will get it ?

This is what the ninja wants ... it's all about ... misdirection ... What the eyes see and the ears hear, the mind believes.

And while your opponent is admiring the dragon, the ninja is slaying him :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

If the Ninja is removable, then the dragon head will make for a funny TO Camo marker :)

I would definitely cut down that dragon head, because it distracts too much like it was said earlier. As for the cutting, I'd repeat myself and promote a good juweliers saw. It cuts like butter through the metal and removes very little material.

Hm, I hadn't picked up or used any sappers so I wasn't really aware that they might come on an S3 base rather than having an S2 model and an S3 marker, but now that you mention it, that sure does look like a 40mm base he's on. What have players normally done for sappers? Is the "buy two, base differently" approach the default?

In the few occasions my sappers get out of their foxholes I tend to just use a random S2 model as a proxy, they tend to end up back in their hole by the end of the turn anyway.

For my Acontecimento sniper (one of the few sappers to come on a 25mm base) I used a 40mm base with a 25mm cutout from Sarissa Precision.

The existing Haiduk's on a 40mm base with some rubble to hide behind:

The unit is a completely separate piece from the rubble, but it would be pretty challenging to make it look comfortable on a 25mm base. The new one is much more flexible in that regard.

Indeed, most sappers are prone or supine, or modeled in such a way they won't fit very well on a 25mm base. If the new Haiduk does fit in a 25mm without much modification that's pretty cool.

I wonder if it would be easy to put him on a 25 mm base and then put the wall on a 40 mm with a cutout to slot said 25 mm base into, much like @colbrook 's example.
