Since it looks like Tohaa is potentially gone as a faction in N4. After a tournament this weekend, I was going to play them for the rest of N3. I just finished hunting down a bunch of the out of production models and I was curious if the community has any suggestions on things I should make sure I try before the end. This could be anything from a load out to a combination of troops or a full list.
Kotail's always fun, and frankly the thing i'll miss most if I start dusting off my Tohaa to be counts-as Spiral Corps. Makaul are another, but I feel pretty greasy using them, so w/e.
I've only recently started learning Tohaa, but during next few months' FLGS ITS 300/6 Tactical Windows league I intend to go as aggressive as I possibly can with as OP combinations of profiles as I can imagine. If this is the Tohaa send off, I will go out guns blazing and symbiomates screeching.
Ok, I will definitely check out the kotail. I actually ordered one of the cool dual combi sculpts from overseas the other day to go with the Spitfire sculpt. What kotail profiles are you guys using? It seemed like the FO is the place to start.
just one time worked for me, like DPS with Shotgun it's that kind of unit, that is good, original and have good flavour buuuuuut that i cannot never achieve to make work on my lists and my games :(
Spitfire is the best attack piece, which is what you'll want him to be most of the time. FO is a good honourable mention due to the value of a fast, manoeuvrable, and durable specialist, particularly with the neat E/M grenades. Dual combis is a strictly worse Spitfire, but can be worthwhile if you really need that extra SWC.
Recently had some fun bombarding the IA heavy infantry team with Kotail's E/M grenades. Jumping gun's blazing on the enemy lieutenant on the rooftops is fun too. I'll probably play more with Igao too, he is fun but fragile. Able to stack -12 to the enemy CC with Igao's own CC 25. Or even stunning the whole team with stun grenades and then DA-knifing them down.
We know already that Tohaa is not in N4 at the start, along with 4 sectorials of other armies (two from PanO). They are supposed to be adjusted for N4 and added within 2020, so just a few months tops.
Correct. On the topic of the thread, something I'd like to try out a little is seeing what units that we traditionally triad link can get away without being in a triad from time to time. One particular module that a local used against me recently that I'd like to steal is something like a Draal marksman, Gao-Rael spitfire, Kaeltar and makaul. Four models, multiple triad configurations, but there's reasonable cause to have many of the models unlinked under certain circumstances. A Draal and Gao-Rael can both fight independently (and sometimes want to, thanks to deployment advantages) and the setup shaves out some points to allow more flexibility elsewhere. No firm list in mind yet, but it's a thought bubble. Especially attractive since my last game saw a noctifier clean up a Gao-Rael's triad early but the Gao-Rael went on to go up the combined army flank like scissors gliding up wrapping paper.
Low hanging fruit - found the Sukuel HMG doesn't need a triad to be a hyper-optimized murder machine. Just got into the mindset of "if it triads it must be in a triad" for a long time... a solo Sukuel is just as good against most targets and doesn't have the giant footprint or vulnerability of a triad.
Thanks for the point about considering Sukeul as a solo piece. I had become a bit triad happy after coming from Spiral Corp and find all the cheap and good triad fillers.
Our triads are the only Fireteams where I don't consider them a burden. Man, you can toss a makaul and a specialist in there. That's the real bonus of the triad, the +1B is just a side bonus
Yeah, what I loved about Tohaa when I started playing was the flexibility that Triads provided, bacause we could move around groups of different soldiers working together, each providing different skills/equipment to the fight. Now we have more variety of troops, but back then (I started playing just when N3 got released) Tohaa was a Faction with very few profiles, and every model you brought to the table had a clear purpose; we didn't use the standard strategy of "a lot of cheerleaders hiding while providing Orders and a few of powerful profiles to spend the Orders and do everything".
Also my main reason for starting Tohaa were the Triads, not the burst bonus but the ability to move 3 at once. And I still love it. Hopefully Tohaa won't loose that
This x1000. Best thing about triads by a lot imo. After that its ARO burst, B2 smoke, and finally +B on active guns. Edit: I guess CC buddies fits in there someplace too, but mileage may vary on that. Makauls can definitely benefit from the added burst
Krigel triad, to attact all with pherobooster, and chaksa heavy rocket launcher to shot over all aim spotted by phero, and another tricore with krigel grenade launcher or troops with funny tipes of grenades to make a lot speculative attacks... all time, all turns, fire from sky...like a boss
