If CB continue with this course of action (remove Tohaa and the four sectorials entirely from N4 Army) I now predict that the whole "we're just making SKU space" will mean that they will have to remove factions wholesale every "season". Which means as they introduce Svalarheima and 3 more sectorials, they will remove another vanilla faction (heavy indication of YuJing IMO) and further sectorials no later than N5. Probably after 1-2 ITS seasons of N4, maybe in stages.

That's a natural consequence - if they have decided that instead of expanding the company, the production, shipping and warehousing capabilities they intend to stagnate at the same general size and just grab in as much profits as long as they can, they need to keep SKU count at more or less the same level. Which means factions will be pruned wholesale again and again, sooner or later.

Welcome to the CCG "seasonal" format of Infinity. It's going to kill the game.

I'm a bit late to this thread, but it's still fresh enough I just want to reply to some of the points I found along the way.

Before I get into individual comment responses, I do want to take a second and say that CB's super aggressive release schedule is part of what got them to this point in the first place. And I totally get why they did what they did for releases -- new releases make new sales and new players. But at a point they need to decide if their goal is to build a long term playerbase for their game, or if they want to be one of those hot new games that everyone drops in 6 months to move on to the next one.

Here's the thing with all of the "miscommunication" comments. Either CB is doing something shitty to armies, which is bad, or CB still hasn't figured out how to communicate with their playerbase after we've already dealt with things handled poorly (Uprising, Year of Tohaa, to name a few).

CB should know that people eat up whatever they can get from those satellite presentations, so they really should switch to a format that doesn't lead to so many mistakes or the telephone game. Either have prerecorded presentations and do in-person Q&A, or get a real community manager to present the information.

The important thing is that you've found a way to both simultaneously not care and feel superior to everyone that does, right?

Nailed it. I had already written something to a similar effect in a conversation elsewhere, but this is the real crux of the issue.

CB should have seen after Uprising how necessary a community manager was. Then they should have seen it again during SKU reduction panic. Then they should have seen how it could be necessary when slowly revealing information about new products.

Eventually these don't look like individual instances of miscommunication -- they look like a complete failure to understand the playerbase of their game. I understand there's also a language barrier issue, but a community manager could at least help with that.

Chiming in on this, I'm also a professional translator and there are cases where quotes can be used in paraphrases. I'm not sure how I feel about it in this case in particular, but people who are not professional translators should not be telling us how to do our jobs.

TBH, most of us know that you might not be that invested. But the real point is, some of us think that you might be that invested(both phychologically and financially).

I would not just say you are wrong because you've got some fair points, like communication issues of CB.

And your personal state of mind is surely not my thing to care or intervene. But still, I think you'd better reconsider your state of mind and investment, since you have spoken out, and your radical selection of words are hindering us from understanding your point.

You're in the minority here. I think its a little unrealistic to expect something to last a literal life time when you purchase it. Once again – you are equating something's core functionality with it's relevancy. A miniature's core function is to represent a troop profile on the game table, which your miniatures will be able to do until CB no longer produces rules. This probably won't change anytime soon, unless CB dissolves.
Here's the thing about talking about what is and isn't relevant, its very much based on a person to person basis. for you, your X86 may still be the best thing in the world, but I'm afraid most will agree it is useless and invalid these days.

I'm very sorry you feel this way – but truth be told I can't understand why. You absolutely could use Kameal as brawlers, etc etc. The only person stopping you, is you.

I'm going to level with you – I didn't post in this thread to argue with you. I know what side of the fence you sit on, you've been saying it over and over for ~20 posts now. If you're not convinced now, there won't be any convincing you in 15 more posts. My only advice to you is to try and have a more tempered, longer term view on the health of the game and your reaction to it all.

Operative word here is 'normal'. Given nuada linked to a Wikipedia article which directly contradicted I think we can establish that while it may happen it's definitely not normal, or something you should expect a non-professional translator to pick up on.

I do love the irony of your last statement in the context of this thread though.

Your purchase isnt going to be invalidated, as long as you can use it. And you dont have to buy movies, or music again, when you digitalyse them.
If things break thats a whole other thing, than a company deciding, that your completely fine miniatures are not useable anymore, as the thing you bought them.
And no, I cant play N3 forever, because this isnt a single player game. I need a community for that. Look at Wahammer Fantasy who is playing that game these days?
And proxying isnt satisfying for whole armys because my headcanon will always see those miniatures as what I envisioned them, when I chose the faction. Apart from that, I cant use that playstyle anymore, which is a big part for me as I am predominantly a player.

By now I probably ought to add to my signature that I've got ADD and high functional Asperger's. Lack of filter (unfiltered sincerity and honesty), high degree of sense of justice and a general tendency to be a bit hyperbolic where emotionally invested are to be expected here, for better or worse.

And yeah, like I said before, I am invested (money, time, effort, painting, learning the faction the hard way by losing a lot, etc.), so the idea of being purposefully kept in the dark about issues that directly affect my ability to participate feels like rejection even if at the basic playground level of "we don't want you playing with us anymore".

This would be ironic only if you were my customer whom I've kept in the dark about the translation choices I've made and said I'm doing it according with your specification documents, while at the same time deleting whole pages from the text and attempting not to tell you until the deadline hits.

So, yeah, stop with the nitpicking about quotation marks and focus on the thread's topic.

And after WFB was killed and AOS stood up, players could use those beloved useless Bretonnian knights as Khorne daemonic cavalry. Do you really not understand why they wouldn't want to?

I can try, but like I stated above - it's not like my brain is allowing me much of a detached approach, unfortunately. I am prone to emotional investment, I get very involved when I care about a topic or activity and I get very incensed when something goes wrong with it, especially due to somebody else's incompetence or suspected malice.

I'm a bit intense, I know. I enjoy things a lot, I mourn loss deeply, I anger easily and calm down quickly once the situation normalizes. That's why the continued lack of communication still pisses me off. I'd like to know either way, at the very least.

There's a pretty marked difference between non-translators commenting on style guides they have never used, seen, or thought about and community members commenting on poor community management and communication. Everyone has to communicate as part of their job every day. Not everyone has to work from a style guide every day.

Have to agree with these points. While I could very realistically run my NCA as Varuna with minimal confusion, it would feel a bit weird to have Hexas pulling Croc Man duties and, more importantly, I despise playing as defensively as Varuna does. NCA's aggressive, equipment-focused units aren't easily replaced just by pretending they're MO.

Not to mention playstyle. My ASA could be run as VIRD if I wanted to (and I have before once), but none of PanO's other sectorials have really fit how I like to approach the game.

I hate to break it to you, but one day even mp3s will be obsolete. The cloud or drive you have them saved on will be gone, the OS no longer supported or any number of things can happen.

Fantasy battles had been on the market for ~30 years before it was put to rest. Fantasy battles is allowed to end and no one came and took your minis away. And for the record I still play Fantasy with my friend – hell, we play WHAB from time to time

If the crux of your argument is "I don't want to", I don't know what to say. It sounds like a "you" problem?

Because of how legacy computing works, I find this claim pretty dubious. You can still run DOS files on a modern Windows 10 PC with DOSbox. You can still run ancient Unix programs on modern PCs. You can still plug a USB1.0 stick into your PC and your PC can read it without issue. Virtualization lets you abstract hardware requirements basically out of the picture. Backwards compatibility has always been a super important feature of developing PC technologies.

To what, exactly? There are already people tossing insults around in this thread that you've allowed because they're on the "pro-CB" side.

Fascinating you see the warning as one sided instead of been directed to any and all applicable participants on the thread.

Can I take a pass on the passive aggression? If you have a competing opinion, I would gladly hear it. If you don't, there's no need to crowd up the thread with passive aggressive remarks designed to skirt the line that @psychoticstorm is requesting everyone not cross.

I think the generally accepted head notice for altering a product without customer consent is about 6 months - so right about this month.
Misleading sales after that can still be handled, usually through reimbursement, but I'd be very interested in seeing what customer protection around the EU have to say about a product that is also sold with the explicit intent to be altered.
Somehow, though, I don't think they'll get many cases.

Last I heard they're bringing it back. Sort of. I just think they need to reinvent the IP a bit and remove Tolkien from it some more.
