Hi! Long time listener first time caller :)
I wanted to pick the community hivemind on this matter. I have the Operation Icestorm and Beyond Icestorm packs in my possession and I wanted to give Vanilla Nomads a go. Which would you guys consider to be my best next three purchases. I am already set on the Zondnaut, because that one is just too cool (also I am very sad that Riot Grrls allegedly aren't viable in vanilla - because those minis are very awesome). I might want to branch into Tunguska at some point but it shouldn't be a major consideration just now.
    Thanks in advance :)

A single riot grrl spitfire is pretty good.

Personally my next purchase would be support box, Jaguar box and either tomcat or hellcat. But that is very much my opinion. Too many options for Vanilla to easily have a must-start selection.

Its because they have a mechanic that stops them gaining cover after inflicting a wound, which is often forgotten on the table. For a newer player I'd recommend something a bit more straight forward like the hollowmen spitfire.

I will add my voice in saying that at any chance jaguars and / or supports will be one of the choices you would like to look at, first.

I would like to say so, because I am also started recently with both Icestorm packs, and even if I decided and try my way playing CJC, the aforementioned units ends up to be in your list, anyway. Jaguars cost the same as an alguacil, still does grant you the sort of flexibility that it comes from the use of smoke granades that can cover both your units moving up the board, or your Intruder ( because at some point that will be one of the units you will look at ) firing. Considered also very good in defensive roles, thanks to the chainrifles, it will take a bit to get use to them, but I can garantee you will end up use those, quite often.

Vanilla does grant access to many more units than a Sectorial, in that sense, it could even be more regarding easier to look at what are your own tastes in terms of what you would like to see on the gaming table, same as it goes for the Zondnaut.

My standard recommendations at this point a pretty much always the same, these form the core of any Vanilla list and you'll get a lot of play out of them in Sectorials.

    Midnight Sun Analyst
    Support Box
    Morlocks or Jags Box
    Zonds Box
    Zeroes Blister

    * Midnight Sun Analyst I include because he's a great universal proxy: he works as any LI specialist/technophile. In Vanilla I particularly like him as a Clockmaker (hate the model), Monstrucker, Moran (with 2 markers for Koalas), Puppetmaster or Interventor. Sure you'll probably get dedicated models for all of these eventually, but until then a good proxy is golden.

    * Support Box gives you Zondbots, Dak and Clockmaker. This is the 'healer' Support.

    * Morlocks are the Irregular, Extremely Impetuous version of Jags (explained above): they're cheaper and more efficient than Jags, but less useful for order generating. It's a taste decision between the two. Eventually you'll want to have both, because the only thing better than a Jag or 2 Morlocks is a Jag AND 2 Morlocks.

    * Zonds Box gives you Transductors (8pt orders), Reaktion (TR REM), Stempler (Sensor bot) and Vertigo (Guided bot). These are a staple of Nomads lists as they allows you to fill a number of roles from cheaper orders, to solid defence to not-FTF attack options. Eventually you'll want a second box.

    * Zeroes are the single most useful Sk in Nomads. Hecklers do a lot of things better, Spektrs get TO, Morans give your Repeaters that are just there but Zeroes are cheap, cheerful and add volume to your midfield.

This is the 'boring' list. They're core selections that allow you to get the base of many lists to come. Nothing is flashy, but equally you won't feel like you don't get bang for buck out of them.

    For utility;
    1)support box always useful.
2)combat REM (personal choice is the tsyklon)
3)the double blister of zeroes (these guys win you games by doing objectives)

    For aggression:
    1) puppettactica (Harris fireteam of pseudo HI in vanilla!!!)
2)uberfallkommando (g:sync team of fast melee specialists with eclipse smoke)
    3) szalamandra. Because HRMC and my god is it gorgeous

Hey people. Thanks for the many replies. I have an idea of what to get now, although there are some “boring” suggestions I appreciate that they are quite necessary.

    For some more exciting suggestions:

Scarface - for a Moran Proxy
Bandits (both of them) - I really like Bandits and you can proxy them for every other Skirmisher (Zeros, Prowler)
Morlocks - were already mentioned, can be used as Morlocks (naturally) as well as Jaguar proxies
Intruder HMG - if you don't want to use the Intruderess from Beyond
Hollow Man - looking great and can be used as every other S2 HI, the Riot Grlls even have the same loadout,, so ... usefull
    Jammer Heckler - fun unit

My favorite units are Hellcats, Tomcats, Geckos and Bandits. Those would be my choices for interesting options. That and Intruder MSR but I'm pretty sure you got that already.

    Interesting choices:

    Zoe and Pi-well
    Uberfallscommandos
    Bandits

These each teach you to lean into different aspects of Nomad game play.

Z&P are the premiere specialist two-some in the game. Pi-well is a superb attacking / button pushing option, and Zoe provides unrivalled utility. They also bring Hacking to the fore in your list as - combined with Zeroes, an Interventor and Zonds - trivially give you a 3 Hacker list with solid Repeater coverage.

Uberfalls are the most destructive Warband in the game. But they're fragile compare to a McMurder. Getting the most out of them is complex: it takes learning CC rules, G Sync movement and how to get the most out of Impetuous. They give you a unit that can, played right, reliably kill any unit in the game. They're also just pure fun. Get Morlocks first as they pair supremely well, and teach you some of the basic mechanics first.

Bandits are a shiv to the kidneys. They're another great, but fragile, 0 SWC attack option that takes real skill to use well and rewards people who take the time to exploit their abilities. Playing them will improve all your midfield Camo play (both offensively and defensively) and make regular opponents cautious of what turns out to just be a Mine.
