The coming two-player box has been confirmed to be Svalarheima vs Huang Di, meaning two sectorials. Sure, that doesn't mesh with Code 1, but I think this is meant to be an N4 pre-release that we can play using N3 rules.
Code One isn't a stand-alone game as much as a introductory rule set or a simplified rule set. There is very little resembling Defiance with this release.

I don't see why a starter can't be both a Code1 PanO starter, and an N4 Svalarheima starter, as long as the included troopers can be used in both then it can appeal to newbies and vets looking to expand into the new Sectorials.

If I understood properly, Code One will be a no sectorial version of the game. So any box based on sectorials would not be Code One ready.

But troopers don't just belong to Sectorials.

Take Red Veil Haqq as an example, as long as the C1 Haqq list has Ghulam, Zhayedan, Khawarij, Al Fasid, and Tuareg available it doesn't matter that it's technically a Ramah Task Force starter, it's also perfectly playable as a C1 Haqq force, or even a Vanilla Haqq force in N3/N4.

So if the C1 PanO half contains Huscarls, Dokkalfar, a Knight Hospitaller, and Uma (to invent examples out of my posterior) as long as they're in the C1 PanO roster it's a valid starter for newbies, whilst simultaneously being attractive to vets by providing new models for both N4 Vanilla PanO and the new Svalarheima sectorial.

    That makes complete sense.
    Thanks for the detailed explanation.

The reason I picked Haqq as an example is that technically their half of Red Veil was their Vanilla starter for a couple of years before RTF was released.

CombArmy/Onyx did the same thing, their current starter was released with N3, but OCF didn't exist until the release of HSN3.

    Still a valid example.
My initial thought when I think sectorial is more JSA than Invincible Army :yum: which is not relevant here.

Okay apparently inwas not paying attention to the sectorial piece of the videos. To be fair I haven't cared about code 1 because as a vet it should have bot interest for me .
Of course you can have sectorial models in code 1 even of that doesn't technically matter. However how this box is sold and the perception in retailers doe . Now that it is a 2 player army box like all the other retailers will stock and reorder it that way. The majority if stock will be bought by existing players to get the new hotness - like they did with defianc . I know code 1 is infinity light.
I was excited about the idea if code 1 and really thought cb had the plan. Simpler game no sectorials, limited model range, release a starter box sub 100 and educate retail and distribution and get some more stores and people trying the gam . Now we just have 2 more sectorials launching stores will order preorders plus 1 or 2 and sell them out and code 1 is gone.
Some new players will.of course be brought in but it will be accidental and just as likely to happen as with the old vs boxes.
Infinity needs to grow. In N America way less than 50% of the stores carry infinity and even less support it with events. If that doesn't change I dont see it growing to a sustainable plateau that wont see it become mutant chronicles, chronopia, clan wars, wild west exodus etc.
We need a recruitment tool and a box with 3 basic infantry and 1 exotic all existing models for 2 factions plus 1 brand new sculpt or model leader to entice olds to spend money would have been the tric . Could have made that $75 and boom there's a starter. Than release peasant boys and future Vikings with n4 as normal ole faction releases.

I'm confused, how does a Code One starter containing old models appeal more to new players than a Code One starter using new models?

Wizardlizard, I'm not sure I understand your objections.

The new box, Coldstream, is being released as the Code 1 starter with all related rules inside and starters for two factions. The old two-faction boxes are also being split and repackaged as Code One starters for their respective faction, and a Code One army builder with Vanilla-style army lists will be available. These starter boxes will then all be listed for retailers as "Code One/Infinity Essentials" so retailers know what to stock if they have only one shelf available.

Once N4 launches a few months later, for N4 players two new sectorials will be available in the army builder, using the Coldstream box as the starter for those sectorials, the same way Coldfront from two years ago was both an Intro box and the starter for OSS and TAK.

It has nothing to do with that. Old models wod appeal to newbies as much as new ones...I mean not really old ones but current ones.
Tha challenge is what is the intention of code 1. As it stands they are just releasing another vs pack. Retailers will treat it like that ...order a few sell em to existing players and move on. It isn't really a starter. It is something existing players are going to be psyched to buy so splash, sell out and no, or very few, bew players added to the pool.
The code 1 piece wont matter it's all about the miniatures and new faction. All the hard work on the back end for code 1 its and ways to mice from starter to n4 wont matter because they will sell the new stuff to the same old group of people.
They could have made a stock all the time, retry infinity in your area, new simpler rules with event support starter set and it would have been great. All it is now is this years cold front.

I get it and I hope I an wrong but I'm an old time gamer and seen a lot over the last 40 years. I use to be a brand manager for gw and I visit 10 to 20 local game stores a year all over the us and canada.(only real perk of travelling for my job)
Existing models with cool terrain keeps retailers and current players from consuming the energy and noise of code 1. To try one last time in different terms...most retailers in the us see no value in infinity. The community is too small and the handful of weirdos that kind of play they can take care if with special orders. To them this will look and feel like every 2 army vs box that has ever been released.
The existing infinity stores will kind of get it but heck even the best dont really restock. They buy new releases and keep a handful of skus on the shelf for each faction.
The stores we need to reach and then players who need to see this wont because all of us that play will rush out to get CB's new awesome sectorials and miniatures.
This is a slightly better vs box and nothing more and it could have been.
I will be shocked if come next christmas I can find a code 1 on any shelves of FLGs. Without those we dont grow. I dont get my us based interplanetario and forget being able to travel the us with a little figure case of infinity and walking into a store with a solid shot of a pick up game.

This is not how CodeOne products will be sold to wholesalers and retailers. As far as I'm aware, CodeOne stuff won't even use the same branding/design as standard Infinity products.

One of the main design aims of CodeOne is to give retailers a set range of products, specifically designed for new players.

It's definitely not just 'this years cold front', Kaldstrom is not the whole of Codeone.

If the store doesn't understand what "Starter set for new, simplified edition" means then it won't matter if the models inside are old or new.

I'm expecting Code1 to release for AdeptiCon, N4 for GenCon.

My FLGS doesn't carry Infinity (or even Flames of War) anymore, because the New Releases get bought once and the restocks never sell. Basically, Infinity doesn't pay it's rent. Having an 'Infinity Essentials' range that they can know to stock would be a good idea.

You should expect it, because that's what's confirmed.

This is one of Carlos Belli's stated purposes of Code One, providing FLGS with an essentials range that fits in limited shelf space (including PanO Dronbots!) this will include Operation Kaldstrom and existing products re-released with Code One branded packaging.

So what if the streamlined hacking was getting rid of different devices altogether and listing programs like weapons?

There would be many possible combinations of whatever programs make it to Code One/N4.
