Hi all. As per the title I just thought I'd throw a question out there to explore what people's opinions are as to their "favourite" units in factions they play. The units in question could be anything from the mixed link nightmare that is the Kamau MSR, the crit-machine Sheskiin with red fury, your favourite button pusher/infiltrator (Chasseur anyone?), right down to the humble flash pulse bot or warcor.

Ideally I'd like to know units and particular profiles as well as get a brief explanation as to why each of you favour one or more units in the factions you play.

Many thanks everybody. Looking forward to your input.

For vanilla Yu Jing, I just love my Tiger soldiers. BS 13, PH 12, Combat Jump, Mimetism is just fantastic and they also come with at least three or four useful loadouts:

TIGER SOLDIER Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 25)
Cheap and devastating at close range
    TIGER SOLDIER Spitfire / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 32)
This man can single-handedly ruin your opponents day if he finds an opening in the backfield
TIGER SOLDIER Hacker (Assault Hacking Device) Combi Rifle + Light Flamethrower / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 33)
On-demand WIP 14 specialist AHD with a DTW.
TIGER SOLDIER Paramedic (MediKit) Combi Rifle + Light Flamethrower / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 29)
Cheaper on-demand WIP 14 specialist, DTW, can try to heal an important piece in a pinch

    Honorable mentions:

    SÙ-JIÀN Spitfire, Light Flamethrower, Panzerfaust / Heavy Pistol, Knife. (2 | 59)
Swift, deadly, unique. What's not to love about it?

GŬILÁNG (Forward Observer, Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 27)
Swiss army knife camo infiltrator, WIP 14 specialist

    [IMG]5 [IMG]4
CELESTIAL GUARD (Kuang Shi Control Device) Combi Rifle + Light Smoke Grenade Launcher / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 13)
KUANG SHI Chain Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 5)
KUANG SHI Chain Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 5)
KUANG SHI Chain Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 5)
KUANG SHI Chain Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 5)

    0.5 SWC | 33 Points

Borderline broken order battery that trades up against pretty much anything (linkable in ISS!). Kuang Shi can also double as a repeater or homing beacon for artillery. Flavourful unit representing the dark side of Yu Jing. Smoke Genade Launcher included.

DĀOYĪNG Lieutenant L2 Hacker (Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 29)
Camo LT L2 hacker. Can use the additional order to set up support ware/re-camo or funnel into one of our NCO options. Just very solid unit and a great LT choice. Prone on a building (with Forward Deployment L1 due to being MI) this guy is not easy to get rid of.

Jaguars are as good as you can get for cheap orders. Smoke, template weapon, dogged, CC, no worries over impetuous or using up your fireteam. I doubt any faction wouldn't use them regularly.

    Defensive Acon Regular link:

REGULAR (Sapper) MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 22)
REGULAR (Minelayer, Sensor) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 14)
REGULAR Lieutenant Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10)
    REGULAR Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10)
    REGULAR Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10)

    2 SWC | 66 Points

It's no Kamau MSR level of defense, but it's a very cost-efficient defensive tool, one that I noticed to start most my Acon lists with. There are many variants - throwing in Bagh-Mari sniper or ORC Feuerbach either in addition or instead of Acon sniper, adding a 6th Regural with Spitfire to go into offensive later on, etc.

    Santiago hacker

KNIGHT OF SANTIAGO Hacker (Killer Hacking Device) Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, D-Charges + 1 TinBot A (Deflector L1) / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 38)

It's almost perfect CQB toolbox, it's crazy good (maybe even too good) as a Wildcard, the only thing it lacks is a slightly more powerful main weapon (MRifle, BS?). Again, finds his way into most of my MO lists.

Strelok minelayer, Scout BS, Naga minelayer, Shrouded Dazer minelayer

STRELOK (Minelayer) Boarding Shotgun, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 21)

    SCOUT Boarding Shotgun, D-Charges, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 25)

NAGA (Minelayer) Boarding Shotgun, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 27)

SHROUDED (Minelayer) Boarding Shotgun, Dazer / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 24)

I really like having a BS somewhere near the middle of the field. Strelok is cheap and cheerful - three camo markers (two of them potentially deadly) for 21 pts are a steal. It also makes for a good cannon fodder or a backup attack piece, one that can get the job done, but doesn't hurt me too much when it won't. Scout is a deluxe version, and Shock BS really hurts LI fireteams. Naga gets used a lot in Acon and OSS for similar reasons to Strelok. More expensive and without Ambush Camo marker, but Dogged and better stats make up for it. Shrouded is probably the most evil one of them all, Dazers are hellishly good at limiting opponent's midfield mobility.

When Ramah was previewed and first came out, everyone focused on the 41% crit chance on Tarik. There are a few reasons this isn't as big a deal as it was made out to be, but that's not the point of this thread.

Because everyone was focusing on Tarik, mukhtar didn't get the attention they deserved. Mukhtar are the best thing in Ramah. For those unfamiliar, Ramah are 6-2, forward deploying, NWI/shock immune, mimetic workhouses. For around 30 points. They're also veterans, and have access to three kinds of specialist. On top of that, the red fury profile, which does cost significantly more than the others, has MSV2, and is replacing the djanbazan HMG in a lot of vanilla lists.

The main thing keeping them in check are the limited link options. They can haris or duo, but can't be part of a core team. They also dont have nearly the flexibility to add in other units that ghulam or janissary teams do.

    EPSILON HMG, Nanopulser / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 30)
VARANGIAN Light Shotgun, Chain Rifle, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CC Weapon. (0 | 12)

    1.5 SWC | 42 Points

O-12 is filled with well balanced options, few feel over-optimized and few feel like fillers, but these two together win games consistently.

Haqqislam: Hunzakut, a great cost-effective workhorse that almost always make my lists. It's irregular but that's irrelevant since I always put a few orders on them every turn. I almost exclusively use the forward observer but sometimes use the light grenade launcher option (which I never fire) if I take two.

Onyx Contact Force: Ikadron, just a great staple. Don't think I've ever left home without at least one. With baggage, a flash pulse and twin-light flame throwers and 6-2 move they always make some kind of play in every game.

for nomads I would go for zero, lots of options and fairly costed, knows how to do his job and dois it well and cheap. My second option would be jaguars, cheap, fill orders, protect important pieces with their chain, can smoke, and are regulars. They became the fillers taking out alguaciles just the next day of being in army

    - Veteran Kazak -

The guy is an absolute beast. And has earned his dreaded reputation in my gaming group through the blood and tears of his many dead foes. They all hate him, his buddies and everything he does. Every profile is useful and I've never had my trio of them let down in their full link.

Big tool box of weapon options, zero fear of jammers and very little of EM. Pair of helpful specialists, everyone has mimetism. Bit pricey but these guys kick the door in and get shit done.

Irmies are my boys, I thought they were the bee's knees even back in N2, when they went down 2 points in N3 they've been a staple ever since. They Smoke, they hunt camo, they complete objectives, they sometimes get ARM 5, technically they could even fix things!

Irmie with Servant is seriously tempting me to get into StarCo.

Also, since optimized and favourite are two different things: the most optimized (intepreted as prepared for its role, without unnecessary bloat, and cost-effective at their job) units:

    - Fusiliers; they're the best of standard LIs, thanks to cheap BS 12 and no limitations on heavy weaponry or specialists. With current fireteam options their links can be very effective.
    - Kamau; sniper is the pinnacle, but on the whole they're very well optimized, as someone said they're MI fitted into LI format. Their only bloat is aquatic terrain.
    - Santiago hacker; what I've said above is just as true here.
    - Tikbalang; after rolling up Toni's profile into the general one it keeps the sweet spot of firepower, utility, defense, and price.
    - Streloks; they're very cheap for what they bring to the table, have absolutely no unnecessary bloat, and excel in their role.
    - Spetznaz HMG; it's the HMG for TAK.
    - Ghazi; they're overoptimized, and we all know it.
    - Posthumans; their only downside is the lack of Mk.2 hacker sculpt. Combo of Mk.1 Eng/Mk.2 Hacker/Mk.5 FO is so ridiculous, that I consciously look for other choices when building a list.
    - Yadu/Shakti; they're basically light HIs that are unhackable, have access to versatile toolbox, and their link options enchance it further.

Patsy is a beast of the toolbox. Built-in haris, capable of completing objectives (more then the half on classifieds may be performed by her alone), nice HI stats, versatile array of BS options (smg for close and personal, flash pulse for enemies further away), good price inside of sectorial. She is just gorgeous.

Favourite: Gao-Rael Spitfire and Rasail Spitfile. If I deploy one them, I almost never loose; they are my lucky charms.
Most optimized (for Tohaa): Sukeul HMG. Just broken when combined with Symbiomate.

The generic cross faction variations of the TR HMG bot.

You might not always need it or want to take it, but it will never let you down. Decent on defense and always good on offense with assisted fire. It just works.

I'll do my favorites and then what I think are the most powerful in all the factions I play.

Neoterra: Bolts are easily my favorite. Love the look and fluff. The update helped them so much.
Honorable mentions: locust and hexa. The hexa multisniper is a workhorse of mine and has great stories attached to it. Also the Squalo for that grenade spam.

Varuna- Kamau nail the elite operator look and feel and they have a very strong impact on the table. Most people have a story about how a linked kamau sniper ruined there day.
Honorable mentions: Patsy is a very fun workhorse model that sees alot of table time. I'm also a sucker for characters!

Military orders: Father Knight. This one is purely aesthetic for me. I love the look of the father knight models. I'm not even super in love with the whole space knights thing but ever since icestorm these guys have grown on me. They are hard to bring because of the cost but they can be alot of fun.
Honorable Mention: Knight of Montessa. Knights on bikes, nuff said. Also Joan because of Joan

Aconticemento: Akal commando. I was sold on this game after a demo where I successfully dropped an Akal into the back field of my opponent and went on a rampage. The warcor giving the demo I'm sure intentionally set his guys up in not great positions but I was just sold. It gave me vibes of odst's from halo. Another set of great looking models.
Honorable mention: Dragoes. Who doesn't like bringing a gundam?

Vanilla Pano: Knauf. In Pano he is usually a terrible pick when he's in competition with such great snipers like the kamau, nisse, and hexa but I love the model, loved the manga, and am a huge sucker for characters. Forcing myself to take him has actually made me get better with playing non linked active turn snipers since you don't want to just set him up on a roof to die in the first round.
Honorable mention: Joan for the pseudo link team shenanigans she can pull.

Druze: The druze, specifically the em grenade launcher with x visor. This bad boy has done some serious work. I've put so many opponents into LoL on the first turn thanks to him. Starting further up the board just makes it even sweeter.
Honorable mention: Arslan and scarface. I'm starting to wonder why I like characters so much?? Scarface is nice since he's one of our only options for multiple wounds. Arslan is just a cool fluffy character to lead a fireteam but I have to force myself to bring him because of his cost. I'll do it but I know my list suffers for it.
Dishonorable mention: Saito togan, you're a mercenary for a reason and it's because you suck and your ninja family want's nothing to do with you. You died to a weak ass jsa keisotsu paramedic.

JSA: Domaru Butai. Full metal samurai who charge up the field and kill things in close combat. Atleast in my head that's what they do. In game it's more like charge up the field and get murdered by defensive aros. The few times I've gotten them into the opponents back field has been some of the most fun I've had in the game just demolishing things with melee. I can usually tell before the game starts if I'm gonna win or lose based on how many domaru I took. 0-2 I might win this game. 3+ I'm probably losing this one lol.
Honorable Mention: Daiyokai and Yojimbo. Bigger full metal samurai and samurai on bike!

    Starco: Knauf* see above.
Honorable mention: Emily handleman. Just like the druze grenade launcher but in a cheaper link. Bit of a 1 trick pony but damn do I love that trick.

Ikari: Ahl Fasid. Big beefy boi with a big beefy gun that can drop mines and deploy smoke. Usually my go to data tracker when the missions give a special data tracker order.
Honorable mention: yuan yuan. Funny suicidal pirates who can be a real thorn in your side.

Foreign Company: Hannibal. Fun leader and starting half way up the board is nice.
Honorable mention: the rest of the artistos. Stupidly expensive but I love the link and what it can do in tight spaces.

Usariadna: Van Zant. I know I'm bringing him, you know I'm bringing him, and you know he's walking straight into your deployment zone. 90% of my lists start with him.
Honorable mentions: Grunts. Flame thrower grunts, 12 flame thrower grunts all outside of your deployment zone locking down all of your key pieces and ready to make your first turn a nightmare, 12 flame thrower grunts actually all in my deployment zone wasting 12 orders because I can't roll less than 8 to save my life unless it's for an armor save.

QK: Azrail. Feurbach azrail is another amazing model. Wish it could be in a mixed fire team these days. I use his model to proxy alot of s5 things with guns. A solid alright piece. Not terrible but not amazing.
Honorable mentions: yuan yuan and Kaplans.
Crazy suicidal pirates and no nonsense hardened professionals who remind me of H.U.N.K from resident evil.

Vanilla Haqq: Maghariba guard. Why hello big beautiful scorpion tank of my dreams! If I ever need to protect myself during a game I'll just throw you or put you in a sock and beat the attacker to death.

Honorable mention: Tarik the Mansuri. Crits crits crits crits crits crits.

Whew!! Alright so those are my favorites from the factions I play/have played. Now for what I think is best. Disclaimer some of these units are imo quite boring. They can be hard to deny their greatness.

Neoterra: Swiss guard. Any variety of this guy can be a problem for the other player and can win you games single handedly.
Honorable mention: Auxilia. Burn it in holy fire brother!

Varuna: Zulu Cobra jammer. This is pretty much only because of the jammer. These can ruin peoples days so much and shit down areas of the board. Very unfun to play against.
Honorable mention: Kamau. You gotta have a plan to deal with the linked sniper if varuna is on the table against you. Also the cutter can do some serious work!

Military orders: Dart. She does some serious work in the midfield. Not to be underestimated.
Honorable mention: Santiago KHD for protecting your link team and have a great cqb kit.

Aconticemento: Dart. She does some serious work in the midfield. Not to be underestimated
Honorable mention: Nagas. Great camo infiltrators.

Vanilla Pano: Joan. She can bring cheap orders, tons of free coordinated orders, more swc, and is not easy to kill. No problems at all making her my LT.
Honorable mention: zulu jammer. Jammers are good. 3 are way better but 1 is better than none.

Druze: Druze with the em grenade launcher. This guy shuts down game plans and makes the opponent worried during the deployment phase! Can easily be game altering and can draw alot of heat from across the table. Use that to set traps.
Honorable mention: hunzakut. Solid camo infiltrator which really helps the faction alot.
Dishonorable mention: Fuck you saito togan, stop rolling 19's on your smoke rolls and for activating the objective!

JSA: Karakuri. Tough hard to kill robots that can be in a haris? Solid.
Honorable mention: Ryuken 9. Before the karakuri update these guys would have been my #1. I always tell myself if I want to win to bring 2 or 3 of them so I can win. I usually start to and then fantasize about samurai cutting down weak nomad peasants. Also kitsune for assassinating LT's.

Starco: Emily. Just like the druze grenade launcher. Your opponent will probably be gunning for her hard!
Honorable mention: riot girls. Emily leading a link of them can bring the pain! Also raoul for some really strong AD shenanigans.

Ikari: yuan yuan cheap smoke in your opponents backfield. Can be super annoying with lucky rolls.
Honorable mention: Rui shi. With all the smoke ikari can bring a msv2 spitfire with support ware seems like a no brainer.

Foreign company: Zero. Ugh boring but a really good camo infiltrator
Honorable mention: Kriza Borac. Can be an absolute pain in the ass. Full auto yumm

Usariadna: Grunts with flamethrowers. Cheap sacrificial dudes that can easily earn their points back.
Honorable mention. Van zant. Because Matthew McConaughey.

QK: Djanbazan. Linked msv2 snipers and hmgs who can regenerate themselves? I've said enough.
Honorable mentions: Kaplans. Linked mimetic gunfighter and specialists and who will glue down your scary stuff.

    Vanilla Haqq: Mutts. Jammers. Done.
Honorable mention: Tarik. Yo dawg I heard you like crits with your crits so i got you some crits for your crits.

Having the link get blown apart but resisting any shock and doing a coordinated regen is such a cinematic and cool feeling. I still think the regeneration skill in a void is overpriced but as a unit I love Djan, and I may as well enjoy having it. Curious to see how they'll change as MI for N4.
