Yes, there are some pretty strong (and obvious) combo. Still you can't just try to find all the matching element as it will rely mostly on luck and the other players can prevent you to reach them.
Also, I find that there is no bad element to get, those which require hi success reward well but the easiest one are not to be passed lightly either.
I do like that money is not a must have to win. You can go full bounty, full smuggler, full merchant... or any in between way to reach the end.
The only thing you can't afford to miss is upgrading character and ship.

I think it has a great RPG aspect as you naturally tend to play the way your character would behave and it works pretty well.

Another great aspect is that a play won't last that long once everybody get the turn sequence. Even if the start seems slow, thing accelerate really fast once you've reach a certain balance in you crew/playstyle. So far, the game balance is really good. Someone can be four points ahead pretty fast but can be caught on the finish line.

I may be wrong on the next statement but the game has enough randomness in how elements are placed and drawn so there will a great replay value, even without potential future expansion.

Yeah, there's no one obvious path to victory, you can be a smuggler, pirate, bounty hunter, or a bit of each one. I think the encounter deck is really well done too. I also agree that the characters feel really suited to their canonical specialties but the system is flexible enough to dabble in other jobs too.

The reputation system with the various factions is really nicely done too.

Main downside I've found is that everyone wants to be Lando, not because he's overpowered, but because he's Lando.

Oh yes, the reputation system is great too. Totally forgot about it.
And it works both way as you can gain to have a negative reputation too.

The Monopoly brand is the slut of boardgames. They will do a crossover with anyone. (It is also depressingly shallow for such a giant in the industry.)

I'm also curious. I've seen the 'Minis' for it which look cool, but curious on the game play.

Someone got a good recommendation for a 4x boardgame?
Something not Twilight Imperium (i own 3th Edition) but like Star Trek Ascension without Star Trek?

Played Deep Madness before Christmas having been gifted a copy, good game if you like your mythos style horror/ dead space / event horizon. does mounting pressure extremely well especially with its drowning mechanics.

Also played tainted grail last weekend. While I like the core concept of a choose your own adventure RPG I found combat took overly long, was overly complex and wasn't actually very enjoyable.

Never played eclipse but a friend who has that's a regular for a game of TI had exactly the same review.

Not played TI 3 since TI 4 came out, really it just needs the 8 player compatibility otherwise I've found it a superior beast.

Both versions are pretty good. I really need to get around to adding this one to my collection. It can be emotionally exhausting, though.

If someone likes scifi, colonization theme, and euro games, I can reccomend On Mars. It's Lacerda's game, so beware of finely intertwined mechanics, but it's actually very tight rules-wise, and the visual side is stellar.
