A Jotum has successfully opened three Panoplies and got a +4 ARM from each. What is Jotum's ARM?

Since the ARMOR bonuses are added to the Jotum’s existing armor value (10) I believe the answer to be 10 + 4 +4 +4 = 26 armor before partial cover.

However, my question is, How did the Jotum Loot 3 Panoplies in the first place, all Scenarios with panoplies do say that each trooper can only obtain 1 piece of equipment/loot using the Logistics skill to open panoplies.

    One from each.
Once a success has been rolled, that trooper cannot use the Logistics Trait of this piece of scenery again.
    My emphasis. http://infinitythewiki.com/en/Scenery_Item_Profile#Logistics

@ijw or @Koni can you please step in and provide your understanding of this situation? Rules-wise it seems that Jotum would really get +12 ARM.

which is fine, considering he spent the efforts to open up 3 panoplies, none of them being in a building, and prayed to roll the +4 ARM loot and manage to do it 3 out of 3. What are the odds of that !?

more likely he would open 1 panoply get someting, maybe 4 ARM maybe something else. And if he does manage to reach and open a different panoply he'll more likely get something different so it won't matter. Maybe he'll do a full run of all 3 panoply and get +1 ARM (roll 1-3) twice and +2 ARM (roll 14-15) once. It will stack to a total of only +4 ARM.

To be honest, at the moment I'm really curious whether possibly getting +12 ARM was the intent or it is just an design oversight, as one of the newer players in our playgroup was a bit concerned about this.

Considering that if the Jotum spends enough orders to get to each Panoply and pass all 3 WIP checks, it has a 1/8000 chance of getting +12 ARM, I don't think it's anything to lose sleep over.

Well, for us Artichokes it's a bit different, we don't have access to those fancy offensive Hacking Devices (save for Aelis), so Jotums having any ARM bonus is already a trouble for us.

If anyone wonders, there was an actual game recently where one of the players got +1 and +3 ARM for their Marut from Panoplies. If you run the numbers, from three Panoplies you have a 90% chance to get at least ARM+1 by rolling on the Booty L1 table, 9% to get at least ARM+2, 2.7% to get at least ARM+3, 1.4% to get at least ARM+4, and then <1% to get at least ARM+5.

So yes, the extreme scenario I'm presenting here is obviously highly improbable, but I really don't want to face anything that has ARM>10 before adding partial cover bonus, so the question stands, and it's still unanswered.

K1 treats an ARM 22 Jotum the same as an ARM10 one. And you don't even need to pay SWC for them.

I'm not actually seeing the issue.

With all due respect, with K1 or not, it's still a legit question I'd like answered. You can't just ignore stuff and pretend it doesn't matter if it causes questions (not addressing anyone here).

Also relevant for other stacking Booty results, like weapons for Dual Wield bonuses, especially stuff like Smoke Grenades*2.

What's the issue with either of those?

2 X Smoke Grenades is clearly affected by the Twin Weapons skill. Scavenger on Irmahdhinos can also proc this.

Dual Wield is a particular skill so you can't use multiple CCWs unless you have it. And the rule is explicitly restricted to 2 CC Weapons.

Yes, I did mean Twin Weapons, forgot the term. There's not so much a problem with that rule, just whether stacked Booty results can trigger it or if you can't get a result more than once. Smoke Grenades in particular are a bit weird because of the Special Dodge; honestly a Jotum being able to smoke dodge with two dice on +1 scares me more than an ARM 22 Jotum by a wide margin.

    Why wouldn't it stack?

As has been laid out previously (third post):
1 use of a Logistics trait gets you 1 effect, then a second use (on a second Panoply) gets you a second distinct effect. Sometimes these bonuses interact in specific ways based on how the general rules work.

You can, for instance use XVisor + MSV1 in the same BS FTF, and Motorcycles on C+ troopers is particularly hilarious.

Panoplys can give broken results. This is a thing. It's up to you to curb the most broken outcomes by restricting your opponent's abilities to exploit them through smart gameplay.

sure does. Dont worry about it. the likelihood of being crit to death is more likely than this. and being crit to death isnt that likely. A jotum with arm 10 is hard enough to kill anyway. kill the weak support and em the bugger.

for the record my grossest panapoly pull was odd on my dragao. I was so excited I got it posessed the next order!

ARM is weird, effectively it behaves like a MOD in which case a Jotum would be stuck at 12 ARM max regardless of number of Panoplies looted, but it's never explicitly called out as a MOD.

While it is a legitimate concern, I think the likelihood of you not having any effective means of dealing with it when it happens is significantly lower than it happening. The Jotum's BTS will still be stuck at 9 making the obligatory Taagma a viable method of handling it, Greif Operators and Sukuel Breaker Pistols aren't far behind even if they'll have issues with the heavy flamer, Kotail E/M Grenades might be available, as noted earlier there's a bunch of K1 in Tohaa, Igao Stun grenades can effectively nullify the Jotum for a turn so that some of the weaker alternatives can dog-pile, any number of viral weapons will remain very dangerous to this Jotum and if all above fails you can always engineer a way of running in an Electric Pulse unit into melee to bind the Jotum up.

There are a few other, much less likely means of dealing with it that I've skipped. E.x. binding the Jotum up with a bunch of much cheaper units is viable, but spending the orders to make it happen is not or using Adhesive is viable but from what I hear Gao-Rael are very rarely played

I’m pretty sure that ARM isn’t mechanically considered to be a mod. So a Jotum in cover has an effective ARM of 13, not 12.
