After playing a little more with Hulang, he rocks
A lot of armies would kill for a unit that you can just throw into AC2 first turn and get 2-3 wounds off it (armies without Achilless of course).
also bullying fireteams and remotes stuck in houses with E/M grenades is very satisfying

well, I'd throw in Fidays and Rasyats into the ring of models who can easily kill AC2s in less than a turn without the threat of Hackers or in the case of Rasyats, MSV2 and even Yammers.

Fiday may spend a long time whacking at it with a simple DA sword

There's a bunch of armies with similar alternatives and most vanilla armies can ferry Krakots to a similar position as can be reached by the Hulang. E.g. Cuervo, Pavel, Bran Do Castro, Kendrat, Taigha, Igao, Ninjas, Saito, and arguably Hipplyta. Tarik and Light Sheskin as well, but they need to be careful to not kill everything so they get a turn two when they'll start wailing on the AC2. Some of the above require you to clear the way for them similar to the Hulang, some can get there on their own on most boards. Some are immune to Jammers, none are vulnerable to hacking.
Fiday has 62% chance and 14% of doubles, which means they'll spend on average about 5 orders to bring one down. This is marginally better than a Hac Tao who has 50%/9%.
Hulang has about 30% risk of not being able to destroy an AC2 without going to a Panoply for refill, but on average they'll spend two D-Charges to do it.

The issue with Fiday is that the regular Fiday are an endangered species according to UNESCO

Who cares about hacking? AHDs are considered a trash suboptimal choice last time I heard, everything else you can just tank while doing your mission with high efficiency (especially if opponent knows what they are doing and place a lot of AROs around to make that you have one strike at a target).
Unlike krakots (who are great) Hulang can shoot on his way to AC but yeah you should run both - and active FD2 specialist wont be dead weight in other missions like ms. gigantic base Andromeda or Hippolita

I care about hacking? I mean, against aa Hulang it is enough with just bare minimum to stop him, but since I don't play IA anymore I guess I am better off agreeing here that Hulang is good and that they should be a mandatory pick so that people start binding up too many points in something so easily stopped.

i feel that's such a meta thing with people only bringing khds. there are players who bring ahds just to keep folks honest.

Yeah pretty much. There are still some quality assault hackers out there (deva, tuareg, proxy MK2, mary problems, barid, etc...) and hacker plus as well, but not all faction have them, and if you don't play in a TAG/HI/REM heavy meta they're a lot less likely to show up.
Also, I think a lot of people underestimate how powerful an assault hacker can be in the active turn. Immobilizing something annoying like an anathematic or a bulleteer in supressive fire with carbonite or icebreaker before engaging it is HUGE. I've done such great moves with my daoying hacker using the measly Gotcha that i'm lowkey considering including another one I could use without risking my lieutenant, or even a zhencha AHD.

As for hacking against IA, they have access to the most brutal KHD in the game with the haidao + tinbot-B combo, so it makes using hacking against them very akward. Like, there's a good half of IA's roster that gets extremely anxious when repeater and hackers starts to pop-up on the board, and the other half that while not only laugh it off, but actively hunt down hackers because they're easy kills.

Exactly what @Sedral said. That's what makes IA not so fragile when facing hackers: it is a placement and strength/weakness game.
You want to use the correct tool to solve the correct problem in order to put your plan in action. To me it's a similar feeling when playing chess. And it is exactly why I love playing IA (even if I happen to fail sometimes).

The Hulang is a vulnerable exception to IA's hacking defenses because utilizing its FD2 puts it outside of your own defensive net. And unlike the Zhencha, it's not like he has a marker state or anything to protect him.

Yep, but FD2 does not require you to deploy to the farthest point. I see it as an order economy when going first (and letting you pick the dangerous AHD if possible). If you think you can't/won't do it, then up to you to place your Hulang in the safe zone - the loss is not necessarally huge (no idea how much FD2 cost).

The problem is that your Tinbot'd KHD doesn't cover your forward-deployed troops like the Hulang, Zhencha, and Liu Xing.

Haris Zuyong with a HaiDao KHD and TaiShen is a tight attack package that projects a nice defense bubble for the Hulang. It’s biggest issue is CC and the Hulang complements them nicely.

Do people really use AHDs that often? Practically useless against most things, while vulnurable to much cheaper KHDs.
In our meta I'm the only one who uses a unit with AHD. Only because I got a Tuareg Hacker mini.
Feel bad for a little guy. Sitting on the shelf right by the Zhayedan and Khawarijs most of the time, collecting dust. Needs to freshen up from time to time.

Yes, I can say with absolute knowledge that the best Infinity players makes use of AHDs and HD+ to slow down REMs, TAGs, and HI. They don't go overboard on them the way players do with FOs, Jammers or HMGs, but they do use them regularly to deny areas to those key units.

Does a unit with stealth prevent an active turn player from tagreting it with a hack at all if it does not act?
