    Hi,

Looking for some clarity on rolls (or not).

    1) Flamer in active turn attacks another unit. The unit is hit by direct template and opts to dodge. Does the flamer unit roll on BS even though the direct template hits to see if there is a crit or to beat the dodge roll?

    2) Flamer unit in ARO reacts to an enemy attack. Direct template hits. Does the flamer still roll the F2F roll to negate lower dice rolls by attacker or does it roll nothing and just suck up all incoming damage?

    Thanks in advance.

The only time a direct template will even try to be a FtF roll is with an intuitive attack. Even then, it could still be a normal roll (now on the attacker) depending on what the opponent does.

You forgot the other shoe: The direct template hits automatically, and there’s nothing the attacker can do to prevent it—they’ve already attacked, there’s no Attack+Dodge combo.

    • These weapons require no BS Roll to hit.
I’ll admit, that bullet point might be clearer if it said “These Weapons do not use a BS Roll to hit” but that gets covered by the later bullet points:
    • Affected troopers can Dodge the Attack of a Direct Template Weapon by passing a Normal PH Roll (or PH-3 in the cases mentioned previously under Effects).
    • If an affected trooper declares an Attack against the user of the Direct Template Weapon as the second Short Skill of an Order or as an ARO, then that Attack is resolved with a Normal Roll using the relevant Attribute (if the weapon, Special Skill, etc. requires a Roll) instead of a Face to Face Roll. Once the Attack is resolved, and regardless of the outcome, the trooper suffers the effect of the Template.
You use a direct template flamer when you’d rather take the enemy with you to hell.
(As noted earlier, the only way to get to roll dice when using a direct template weapon is with an intuitive attack.)
