I've recently come into possession of a Mirage 5 team and I'm keen to get them on the field. But before I do I'd be interested in hearing how other people use them.

I would recommend you get used to running a Dog Warrior, and an air drop unit like Van Zant or a Spetsnaz. Those tactics will apply similarly to the more expensive Mirage team, but you'll have more point flexibility while you get a feel for it.

    Some thoughts, besides 'Mirage rocks!':

I found the having of initiative isn't all important with mirage.
You go first? Great, let the games begin.
Not so? well, your foe is going to have to move things, giving rise to the opportunity of gaps falling in flank defense. The rule in this case is: make sure you preserve some of that sweet sweet order pool.

One of the first things you need to ask yourseslf is: do I restrain Duroc's impetuous nature?
Costing one regular order, this is IMO seldom really useful. It's only ever nice to freak your opponent out, forcing him to constantly measure in the possability of a future drop in all his movements. Worked for me only when facing a regular opponent who has already been on the receiving end of a Mirage drop and knows what they can do.

Second thing is: Duroc and Margot don't need to drop together , just in the same turn. Nor do they need to enter on the same edge segment of the table.
Duroc goes first in 99% of the cases because, again: impetuous.
Let him loose on the backrank cheerleaders.

note: Never forget considering the right tool for the right target and the ARO your targets declare. Seems like the Chainrifles are sooo good, you often [I sure did] forget is might be better to go for the f2f against dodges with regular grenades on 16, or 19's! or smoke in case of multiple ARO's.

note: Despite his hunched over position it's easy to forget his silhouet is huge! careful move+slaughter is the way to go.

Margot's AP ammo + bs 14 makes her one of the best Ariadna gunfighters, and a real hunter of assault pieces like Hsiens, or even Aquila's, ... sometimes. Anyway, when the dropzone is hot, you might occasionally make her enter right behind the Duroc, i.e. movable cover. It's a nice trick. If she lives, and the odds are better than the ones for Duroc, suppresive fire is the way to end that turn most of the time.

note: cautious play with Duroc is great, do damage to that one or two essential targets and finish entrenched, maybe even under cover of Margot's suppresive fire [when she's not away across the board]. Make him a real order sink on your opponents turn.

Always be ready to say goodbye.
They will seldom reach the end of a mission.

Margot and duroc have to come in the same turn ? You sure ? My understanding of they have to be field together was that they have to be selected in the list together. Not they had to land at the same time. Do you have source ?

Another way is use Duroc on frrm is as a smoke provider. The tag is ARO annoying ? Smoke him.

Also i don't hesitate to enter on your own DZ if there is no good land spot. Generally thinking, they are more useful alive than dead, just for the threat they represent.

And eventually, spec fire always before taking any risk. Spec on 13 less for Duroc us great against line troop. Margot an also snip obvious lieutenant surch as interventor with nade launcher on 11

In the Sinpetaca podcast they devoted an episode to Merovingia and they asked V about Margot having or not to be placed on the table at the same time and side than Duroc. I think the answer was "not anymore", and the entry on the Army was separated the same way Cordelia and Scarface's.

I second Spec Fire. Duroc chucking frag grenades on 13s is a great way to keep him healthy. The only thing scarier than Duroc rampaging in your DZ, is Duroc rampaging through your DZ and still being alive at the end of the turn.

Just a point of pride, not really here or there, but it's fun pointing out that Margot is the best marksman in the human sphere.

BS14 is superhuman. The troops that are BS14 are either biologically/genetically/cybernetically engineerd super soldiers, or Heavy Infantry/TAGs with hundreds (or thousands) of pounds of technology strapped to them to augment their physical abilities.

The fact that Margot is BS14 using nothing but her own physiology and a rifle with a holosight is pretty awesome.

If it's getting to the end of the turn and Duroc is still alive ( a rarity i admit ), i like to try and get him into base-to-base with an enemy trooper so that he's engaged during the opponent's turn. It makes him a pretty strong order sink and distraction.

Never mind durocs spec fire as its only out to 8. Margot specs out to 16 on 11s. Shes legit one of the scariest spec fires in the game.

Honestly mirage 5 is one of the big reasons i sometimes wish id done mrrf over rangers for my second ariadna list

My take: think of Duroc as a scalpel and Margot as a blunt weapon.
Margot is BS14 AMR3 trooper with a fantastic weapon. (The rifle's short range is more than mitigated by airborne infiltration!) She is pretty good at winning firefights. Just keep her hovering in the 8-16 inch range (easier said than done, admittedly)! Obviously: do not send her against a sniper 35" away!... Thanks to fairly high burst and AP ammo she tends to kill opponents dead.
Duroc is the tricky guy to play with. ARM3 2 wounds and total immunity gives you the impression he is the sturdy one. No, he is not! He will not win firefights but will have to tank return fire. Unlike Margot he will not recieve bonus from cover (thanks to being impetious). Fortunately he has stealth (via martial arts) and smoke grenades. He will sneak his way to squishy targets and will slay them with spec fire or CC.
And let me state the obvious: they are pure awesomeness! Play them and you will be quick to get to love them!

To continue a nice off-topic, there are also Spetsnaz and Zhayedans who have an effective BS 15 when firing into cover. While a lot of things in this game can be boiled down to "BS equivalent under certain circumstances", most of those effects explicitly come from all sorts of gear. This doesn't seem to be the case for these folks.

To other news, Haqqislam representatives vehemently denied that they received a shipment of Human Sphere made plasma rifles in exchange for unusually large quantities of materials for LHost production and cube integration.

As long as you wont act too ballsy, M5 is a scary enemy.
My opponent once decided to end Durocs 2nd short skill in base2base contact with Nasmat, and oh boy, he paid for that later.

I second that thought. Although I have everything else Ariadna, I might as well complete the set right?

I feel like given that, Kornak should be her nemesis of sorts. He's in the same boat, unaugmented BS 14.

So my first venture with M5 went like so:

1st turn Duroc walked on the table edge, dropped smoke, super jumped over a building into CC with my chain of command Shukra, chain rifle-ing my EVO Hacker and Machaon on the way in. Ultimately took out all three plus two netrods. 5 orders, my Lt, and my Chain of Command in one alpha strike. - Andrew (my opponent's words).

Later Margot dropped onto the other side of the table, killed a post human with her rifle, and then killed another Post Human Sniper, which was making movement across the board very uncomfortable, with her Grenades.

I know this was a lot of points traded, I did lose the game, because I lost sight of the missions, and was blinded by all the death I was dealing out.
