I had my plates cloned about 2 years ago and for a few months got letter after letter for fines and police reports. I appealed them and thankfully got them all sorted but what a headache.
I actually think that this is illegal, technically. At least in the States it is. The only people legally allowed to open a mailbox are the owner and the mail carrier.
Where I live it doesn't require you to open the mailbox. Might be an EU regulation, actually, that meant to allow a competition in mail services by allowing any company to deliver letters (and actually any kind of stuff... adverts, pamphlets etc...) therefore our mailboxes have an insert slit in front. Just drop the mail through it. Then, the owner can actually open the box and take all the stuff out. I've seen exactly the same mechanism in Germany.
Same as @Errhile here (France). I had no idea that other countries might have fully-closed mailbox. It means that nobody can drop you smthg in the mailbox then (except the mailman, of course)? Good to avoid ads, bad to not be able to drop smthg to a friend while they're not home.
Yeah, mailboxes in Germany are like Errhile describes. Some older houses also simply have a slit next/in the door where you can slip mail through.
We certainly have those as well, but some are "doors on the front of boxes out by the street" and only the owner and the mailcarrier can open them.
Pfft, you people with your "mail carriers", "postmen", "letterboxes", etc. We have to get our mail by going to all the way to the post office and checking our PO Box every few days! Of course it helps that you can't live more than a mile away from a post office, we even have one in Hell.

One of my friends works in tech support and troubleshooting for a company that helps administrate the online systems of a few major department stores. It has been a very strange work environment, with some odd policies and a lot of backstabbing among the higher-ups. He's starting to fear for his job, as his entire department were gifted this book: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4894.Who_Moved_My_Cheese_ Part of the blurb reads, "you can discover for yourself how to deal with change, so that you can enjoy less stress and more success". I'm not entirely sure what the company thought the reaction to this gift would be, but I kinda get the feeling it's exactly the opposite of what actually resulted.
It's a good book to read, but been given this by your bosses when there's fears of job instability sounds almost crass
It's the current "it" book for professionals. I'd say that the gift itself doesn't represent a threat to his job. It sounds like the place has some culture issues, and they're trying to deal with them, though in a way that is unlikely to work.
There's always a new book about how to best work/develop/advance you company/life/fortune/relationship. Overall, I don't think getting that book means anything. I was gifted a "how to be successful" book once. Didn't read it, made my own path.
Looks pretty much like NLP in enterprises. I consider the method by itself a OK thing but as many tools, you don't want it to be in some hands. Curiously, why companies makes such training mandatory to management and not to everyone when it is obviously useful to anyone? Call me paranoid but when something is able to remove communication issue is share only to a few, I mostly see it used as a manipulation tool.
Basically I (and I think most people) would consider it as "we (management) give you (employees) a way to deal with your job issue so we won't have to deal with it and can blame your for not dealing with it even considering we created it." I know it could be a bit of a binary way of seeing things, but we're talking of place where it is actually a reality here. If you're working in a company where management is doing things right then you won't have such situation.
Yeah, that's why it's unlikely to work. Though, honestly, all of the management team was probably required to read it, too. I don't know about this specific situation, but my company had been pulling itself apart until recently with this same kind of BS. Our GM ended up fired because he couldn't get us all rowing in the same direction, and we've had a restructuring. Hopefully this "soft reset" will help us get our act together.
They're also very prescriptive about what bring "successful" actually is when it's different for everyone
