Red flowed down the fuller of Biyu’s blade, its tip bled onto the asphalt below and diluted into the rainwater. Neon signs and streetlights painted the brick and metal in the dark alley, stained gentle hues of blue, maroon and pink. The smell of decaying garbage and chemicals hung in the air like a fog, now tinged with hints of viscera. The gentle hum of her power armor mixed with muffled misconduct of the surrounding city block. She was Standing in the belly of the beast, listening to its stomach growl

“I think this was the last of the suspects. He attacked me with a knife, but I was able to neutralize the threat.” Her voice was shaky, adrenaline still coursed through her from the attempted assault. She hadn’t gotten a chance to breathe before her radio barked in her ear.

It was Hsien Heng, who had requested a SitRep on her sting operation. Things hadn’t gone to plan. Suspects turned violent under questioning and their immediate termination had become necessary for self-preservation. The Imperial Service was known for being brutal, but no less was required when dealing with heinous threats to the Emperor and his people. Authorization of deadly force was rarely questioned given the circumstances that necessitate the Imperial Service’s presence beyond street-level police.

“How many were present?” Heng’s voice was raspy and tired. He had maybe four hours of sleep in the four days he’d been in this district, his conviction dragging his weary body as much as the nanomuscle woven in his armor. His orders came from the Emperor’s Voice, no higher authority outside of the Emperor himself.

“There were twelve. The main operator called them to attack once we’d been sussed out. I’d call them reckless, but they couldn’t have known a host under one of the Emperor’s Eternals was waiting on the other side of that wall. Crane Tu can corroborate this report.”

“Acknowledged. Please await further orders and stay on site to make sure no one gets into that basement. The chemicals are highly volatile, we’ve called for a hazmat response team but they’re thirty minutes out.”

“Maybe we can throw this Kuang Shi dog in there and light his fuse, we can take care of two problems at once!” Celestial Yi laughed, his black humor and contempt falling on unsympathetic ears.

Biyu shifted to Yi, her metal braid curling behind her head like a listless snake. “He’s an asset of the Empire whose redemption will come in time. This is a crime scene, and I won’t have you...”

KRRRSSHHHHH! A bulky body crashed through a window next to Officer Yi, tripped over the sill and crumpled onto the pavement in a heap. The shaft of an arrow sprouted from its chest, slightly left of center. A wad of bills was clutched tightly in their fist, and their open coat revealed a pistol with the holster strap undone but the weapon unmoved.

Light through the shattered window bulged and bent as a cloaked figure stepped carefully through the opening. The camouflage melted from their form, a feminine frame in a skin-tight nanoweave bodysuit as black as ink. A triad of glowing blue eyes bore through a white face mask, fringed with orange up and down.

A voice laced with static came from her, obviously modulated and obscured. “Thirteen, Officer, but who’s counting?”

I wrote an Imperial Service story to go with my redone IS wallpaper, I hope people like it :)

“I’m seeing five hostiles about 400 meters due south-southwest, appears to be a small escort with a Jotum-Class TAG in the mix. The Nisse will have eyes on us if we’re not careful. 3 friendly POWs stuffed in their pillbox drone, poor bastards are probably half-frozen in that rolling metal cage. I bet you could shove a stick up their ass and call them a popsi…”

“ENOUGH!” barked Captain Yun, his patience melted under his subordinate’s white-hot stupidity. “I need accurate information from you Corporal Huan, anything else is costing us time. We’ve got five minutes before that escort is on top of us and I’d rather not get us killed in this blizzard. Set up mines on both sides of this chokepoint and await further orders. Sergeant Ying, take up overwatch and drop active camouflage as soon as those mines detonate. Take advantage of the confusion, hopefully the mines will eat that Nisse, but I want you to make him a priority. You drop him, and we can do the rest.”

Ying looked down at Captain Yun from his elevated nest and nodded before flicking on his camouflage. His bulky exoskeleton dissolved into the howling snow in a spurt of static waves, rippling over and over until he was nothing but a pile of snow and rocks on the hillside.

Huan kept her head down, following the orders of her captain and deploying her explosives without a peep. Humor had been her coping mechanism when things looked grim, and her outlook of this rescue mission hadn’t been optimistic. This wasn’t the first time she’d been on the wrong end of an ass-chewing by Yun, but she had always respected him. He wanted his squad to get home in one piece, and that took concentration. One final tap of her wrist brought two faint green dots onto her heads-up display, her snares ready to catch a blue rodent or two.

Yun’s comms sparked to life, “Captain, I’ve got a calm spot in the storm I think I can jump through. Cyberwarfare suite is ready to rock, give me the signal to drop when necessary.”

“Acknowledged. Heads down until you hear those mines, everyone pick your target and make sure they stay down. I repeat, you’re snow until you hear that click.” Yun took his position behind an outcropping and activated his thermoptic camouflage, his black armor plating effortlessly vanishing into the white snowscape.

Comms static went silent, all non-essential subsystems going dead to avoid any unnecessary noise. Power-usage was dropped to near-zero and thermal dampeners engaged to mask the squad’s heat signatures. Biting cold crept into thin spots in their armor as their heating units no longer provided them protection from the elements. They all waited for that little click, the trigger that’d start their ambush.

CHLUNK KSSSSH CHLUNK KSSSSH CHLUNK KSSSSH

The metallic ogre trudged through the snow, crushing meters of fresh powder down into the earth with each hulking step. A massive weapon hung at its side, swung with ease by huge chunks of interwoven synthetic muscles on top of a titanic frame. The loud, unwieldy powerplants roared as they struggled to push the behemoth through the lashing wind and snow. Four PanOceanian soldiers flanked the giant, their weapons relaxed at their sides and their half-hearted march suggesting they’d already been on the trail for a while. Their captives were quietly ferried inside a tracked drone, sullenly putting along in the footprints of its squad.

The group rounded a corner and approached a narrow pathway laced with jagged rocks and crumbled hillside. Clouds incarcerated the sun and choked out her warm embrace, the world sunk into a dull, lifeless grey. When they passed through the first set of rock formations, a pinprick of light flashed in their periphery. They froze.

Nice Artwork and nice story again, but I have a little complaint ;-) The way you let half vanish the Daofai is more likely for TO camo. At least to my understanding. Normal Camo is the ability to hide very good and maybe use one or two advanced tricks like a thermo-hiding cover etc. and TO camo is enhanced by powerful hightech divices.

And ... Hac Tao can not be Lt. by default - but I can assume, he take over command with his executive order ;-)

Keep up the good work! I appreciate it very much.

@archon Tried to base it on the description of Camo from the lore "Reconnaissance experts, through experience and training, develop a strong sense for concealment and stealth. To take advantage of their skills, these soldiers are outfitted with chameleonic gear: photo-reactive cells and adjustable, merging, environmental patterns. These technologies, weaved into their garments, body armor, and equipment — in combination with their special abilities — make for deceptive targets and ghostly figures, but fall short of absolute invisibility."
To do this, there's static and impurities across almost the entire silhouette. I overlayed the background on top of the Daofei and distorted it to show the imperfections. We honestly don't know what this particular variation of level 2 Camouflage looks like, it's how I interpreted it and that's what I came up with. For the Hac Tao, It wasn't written completely to the rules of the game as I wanted to take some creative liberties in how the characters interacted. Like you said if we wanna go there his XO variant technically takes over as lieutenant when he enters the board, and any other person there could've been the LT, maybe it was Guilang Huan, we may never know ;)

In any case, I'm glad you like the story I had fun writing it!

Not a critique :-) but the writing on the TAG is mirrored - maybe swap it?

Always nice to see, what you do!

Some Ikari action. The only ones I haven't done yet at all are Foreign Company, Starco (Don't have great dossiers for Uhahu and Emily), Druze, Merovingia (Almost no good dossier images), and Steel Phalanx (Lack a good enough image of Achilles which I feel is kinda important) and I think that's it. Dang I've been doing this for a while now.

I would, but there's a few key dossiers that I wish I had better copies of to make the picture look good in 1920x1080. Here's the main one's that I think would be really hard to mask how bad they'd look just by virtue of being lower quality handheld pictures:

I could try to restore these dossiers and I could possibly make them work (kinda), but I don't think I'm enough of an artist to do it. I've really wanted to finish out the collection for quite a while, but I want to be able to make one that looks good with iconic pieces and represents big pieces of the army that everyone uses frequently. So yeah, I wish I could finish out the ones I haven't done yet but I really wanna represent them well :)

I will for sure, but honestly I'd love to see the Varangian and the Zeta first for two reasons:
    1. I think everyone can agree Varangians are a super strong element of O-12 and I think it's gonna be synonymous with the army
    2. I love having the TAGs if I can fit them in and they have good resolution because they're generally super cool to look at, they give really awesome scale and are easily put into the back row of models because they stand head and shoulders above everyone and can still have great detail.

So I might be waiting on redoing that for a bit, but I'm really excited to because O-12 is probably becoming my absolute favorite army aesthetically
