General consensus? Between whom? You conducted a representative survey?
Can't you naysayers just leave the others the fun? How did McDevil call it? I'm getting eye cancer from such comments.

While I only can talk for myself, I am getting this not only for the miniatures, but also for the Board Game. Finally a way to play Infinity together with my friends not against them.

Which boardgaming sites are you looking out?

I've been trying to find some discussions of Defiance outside of CB circles and haven't been able to.

To have enough people buying a game to force CB to really do a good job on the campaign(s)?

Yes, you and I are NOT the target demographic of such a stretch goal or expansion, whatever you want to call it.

That idea is a shameless moneygrab for people who want to have a ready-to-play game in a box.

    FTFY.
I am really sorry if you're not able to participate, but is it really a shameless moneygrab if they actually deliver content for the money? I mean, it's not like forcing people to buy anything. And it's not like they are trying to sell anything without actual content. Everyone has to judge himself, if the value is high enough, but I wouldn't call it a shameless moneygrab.

Like I already said, for a few moments I got mixed feelings by the Reinforcement Packs, but as soon as I realised it's just a way to replace tokens in a game and to be able to buy some miniatures at a very good price, not a necessary component in any way, I think it's okay. I won't get every reinforcement pack, if any at all.

I dunno, it could be a shameless moneygrab to expand the pool of people that might buy the game as a game, but only if they didn't have minis.

Shameless pandering to a new audience, maybe?

I don't think the word "shameless" means what you think it means.

    Nor "pandering".

How does it hurt you if Defiance were to be expanded to include people who otherwise might not purchase it?

Why does this make you so angry?

I think a lot of you are missing the point @Section9 is making (or at least this is how I'm reading it), that minis aren't necessary for the game and so far much of the content outside of the minis looks pretty lackluster.

A lot of the design of the campaign seems to be to hook Kickstarter whales / infinity whales (the types of people who have the "superbacker" flair on Kickstarter, or your local player who plays 3 other miniature games in addition to this one and owns 8 Infinity armies at near AVA), since the price is honestly astronomical for most hobbyist boardgamers.

It would be nice to see as much care taken for the non-miniature components as the minis, but so far I really haven't seen that.

And I'm saying that as someone who is one of the whales they're fishing for. I'm very likely I'm going to end up with a pile of nice miniatures and a playable but not incredible game. Aristeia was a fresh and unique game, and while it's not perfect has some great new ideas and interesting mechanics.

So far, Defiance hasn't done anything non-miniature related that's really been unique or wowed me. It looks like every other dice slinging dungeon crawler -- Descent, Imperial Assault, Dark Souls, Massive Darkness. And my big worry is, most of those games range from average (Imperial Assault) to really bad (Dark Souls) which sets a pretty bad precedent so where this game will fall.

If that was really a goal, why not make a standees/non-minis version? That is the number one thing they could do to get hobbyist board gamers, but based on what everyone is saying here, it seems like a lot of people on both sides of this argument feel like the game can't stand without miniatures, which is incredibly worrying to me.

Do we know if there's a limit on expansions being purchased by someone backing the main game? Like if my friend is backing and I don't want to. Can I have her buy two copies of the Outcast expansion for the O-12 Minis?

No limit, she can add a second copy of Outcast in the pledge manager, though the 4 extra heroes only come with a full Platinum Pledge.

You have problem with people not liking what you like?
Not sure why you YesSayers can't leave NaySayers have their fun xD or freedom of speech to express their feelings.
About eye cancer, you might wanna see doctor for that or maybe watch less forums. Eye health is quite important...though, if you see this new show called 'SEE' apparently it's not...you can have whole blind population work just fine, they travel, battle each other, hunt, ride etc. Give it a watch :D
You should try 2v2 battles, quite fun, 150pts per player.

    Boardgamesgeek and reddit/boardgames

Well, if I see what I like, I don't have too much problem to dump hundreds of dollars into project. To name the few in which I dumped em 2000$ for KDM, Too many Bones 250$, but that was too see how much I like the game, and since I like it a lot, I will invest more into this one. 250$ for Oathsworn, and that's only because they didn't have anything more game related to be add xD. Shadows of Brimstone Adventures 300$+(on next ks probably once again, all in) etc. So really, money is not issue if I find that I like both gameplay and aesthetics of the game.
If I saw great gameplay here, I would dump +300€ no problem on this one.

I don't know what general consensus you talking about. Our impression here after trying the demo and first mission is that the game offer a pretty solid while classical dungeon crawling experience.

    Big + being :
    - AI card that let you play solo or without the need of a player endorsing the DM role
    - the fact monsters are appearing real fast. Mission 1 was a real challenge. Reading mission 3 it seems very challenging too.

Also since it seem you can replace the foes and have so many heroes to play with you have a great replayability. I see that game as my future Faster Than Light board game. Play, replay, rereplay etc ...

    My personal + :
    - Playing into the Infinity universe
    - Mass effect 2 style mission

PS : my friend is a KDM, assault on empire and descent player. So quiet experienced with DC.

Not at all. But neither you nor me have played the game. And you are speaking of "general consensus"? WTF.
It's not you having a different opinion, it's you constantly trying to cast the Kickstarter in a bad light, trying to convince backer to either drop their pledge or downgrade their pledge. With claims you can not back.

This is what I don't like.

We all have access to same information and can inform ourself about KS. Not really sure why random opinion of someone on internet is supposed to make anyone drop his pledge if they see that they like game so much?
Did some people screaming how KDM was all tits and penises, how it's disgusting etc made me not spend 2000$ on it? Not really...

Claims I can not back? I am just telling you what I read on boardgame sites along with my opinion, everyone has access to that info. You are free to go and look it up, I could quote you here bunch of it, but what good would it serve except clutter this topic? Except here, I am not really seeing people being too active or interested in game on those sites. But then again, it's really not that unexpecting, considering that CB have said not once that they are not aiming this product towards boardgamers , despite it being a board game.

That's not what you are telling me. You are trying to tell me, that "general consensus is, if you want cheaper minis for infinity, go get it, if you want good boardgame, skip it." That's a pretty bold claim, don't you think?

    Where is your representative survey?

You can have your opinion, but don't try to make it look like everyone else (or at least the majority) has the same opinion.

His claims of a "general consensus" are based on less than 20 total posters across two different sites.

Well, if you have 20-30 people talking about the game on 2 sites with just reddit/ boardgames with more than 2.2 mill members and BGG with way more than that, I think it's speaking enough of it,lol

Well, you can see it the other way: Only around 20 people of around 2.2 mil are talking negatively about the game.
And keep in mind: Most people only post or comment, when they want to complain about something (sounds familiar, eh?)
