Hi, After several games, while I'm doing great with Varangians, I feel disappointed each time I put her on table. The fact that I can put nearly 3 Varangians instead of just her also doesn't sound really in favor of Hyppolita when I recall my experience with her. So do you have any clues about how to use her on the table? Her playstyle surely sounds different (due to additionnal ODD, eclipse, CC skills and Breaker Combi) from our other WB but it lacks to me a little something that can put her reliable, specially since she seems to attract all fire from the ennemy for "nothing". In an army where short range, technical and agressive pieces are affordable and numerous (Gangbuster, Sirius, Varangians...) I feel like she's just too much of a burden sadly for our points budget.
I’m purposefully running limited insertion lists for a paint-and-play tournament this month, and Hyppolyta has been an outstanding star in all of my games. Outside of LI I think she’s hard to justify for the points but she’s certainly worth the investment in LI. I usually try to keep her to a flank, she’s not a reserve drop because I don’t intend on using her first turn. I usually let my Omega, Sirius or Gangbuster go to town first turn and create an opening that I can exploit to get her across the table. She’s perfectly suited to crossing the table and getting into a deployment zone to cause havoc. I like to target doctors/engineers, hackers, other back line support with her. She’s perfectly comfortable outshooting then with ODD and Breaker Combi, or if the opportunity presents itself, super-jumping into CC. Let’s just focus in on the utility of super jump for a minute. Most pieces of terrain in Infinity are about 3” high between levels, which means it’s very common for her to be able to climb buildings and still have a short skill left to shoot or CC. Being able to leverage height advantages to see prone models or get at a hidden LT is really really nice, especially on a model that is so lethal at range and in CC. Overall I don’t think she’s an auto-pick model, but when you do include her she’s going to be doing some work. She doesn’t require a lot of support - you are already taking an Epsilon or Omega to bust open defensive deployments and create a gap for her to exploit.
I agree with all of this. She was my MVP in most games at a LI tournament, but I struggle to include her in non-LI list. What sets her apart from Gangbusters, Sirius and Varangians to me is the added layer of reliability. In some situations spending many orders to kill something with large F2F margins is really advantageous and in those instances, she really delivers. She killed stuff like Bulleteer Shotgun, Kamau Sniper, TAGs with smoke + CC. The eclipse, super jump and EXP CCW make her something completely different than the Varangians in that regard. I think the most important part about her is about timing as @MrNailbrain suggests: Don't overextend her early on, wait for the opponent to close in, remove overwatch ARO pieces and then she will be able to smoke CC kill a TAG in maybe 5 or 6 orders unless the TAG gives up large areas of the board.
Ok, thanks for your anwers, I'll try to see how to better use her, guess the dice or terrains wasn't really up in her favor when I deployed her - plus I'm still learning how to play the full game correctly and learning O-12. I'm really lost when it comes to how to use her super-jump + CC skills properly, having seen people making huge CC moves and kills in just one order (I'm PanO at heart, not Yu-Jing, I just don't know how these swords works, I just found them cool :D).
Echoing the LI comments from above. I've found a lot of benefit from her Eclipse smoke as well, for blocking out Haidao and Kamau fire lanes so other midfield units (eg. Sirius) can move forward and do their thing - often using her impetuous order.
I also like to use her as my goto DataTracker, as she can fill all the rolls needed for different missions. she is a good assassin for stuff like decapitation/transmission matrix to kill the designated Target. At the same time she is surviveable and mobile enough if she needs to stay alive as a DataTracker till the end of the game. I also like to use her as a short range reaction piece/roadblock, as she has good AROs for each rangeband.
Considering the amount of MSV in your meta the eclipse smoke might be invaluable whenever you're not taking the excellent Sirius/Cyberghost combo. So far that and her ability to wreck armory doors have been the main reasons why I take her. I do struggle with reasons to include her in most missions though, basically if something needs to be CC'd down she is the best platform for it, or if I'm low on SWC, otherwise I'd rather spend my points on more shooty options.
Cyberghosts can laydown White Noise zones that MSV cannot see through. The Sirius bots are repeaters which lets the Cyberghost use the Hacking Program through it dramatically extending its range since the repeater will be starting up to 8" further up the board.
Cyberghost casts White Noise within the Siriusbot's repeater area. You then move the bot out of the white noise area, and the Sirius herself to a point within the zone with LoF to the Kamau/visor trooper. As only the bot is visible the Visor Trooper must either attack the bot, Dodge, or Forfeit their ARO. They can't shoot the Sirius lady because they don't have LoF through the White Noise. Then the Sirius shoots the Visor Trooper, preferably with a Red Fury but other weapons are available.
