Im new to Infinity but have a collection of Aleph that i have collected and now wish to game with.

I am going into a game with a vertan player who has encouraged me to make a 300 point list with the models i have and want to play with the most and he will then talk me through a full game and help me.

I've come up with this list with my limited knowledge of the game so far and running with characters i like and the rule of cool but at the same time would like to know if it seems a feasible list to start with, as id like to change a little as possible for the first handful of games to help me learn.

Does this look as acceptable for a beginner to get involved with infinity?

The plan is to have Ajax & Phoenix will be the main threats supported by the myrmidon spitfire and hacker.
Midfield and defensively i will take Hector, Thorakites with Atalanta covering from range. Netrods for more Orders.

Any advice tips or changes would be great! Thanks.

Separating the groups is the only thing less optimal. At least with groups of 5 to 6 orders. But you can always test and see how it goes. Look out for killer hackers and hackers in general. Link with assault hacker is vulnerable.

Only other thing to note is that the myrm link is a bit “all eggs in one basket” so be careful with templates.

I would try it and see how it goes :) may consider the 10 orders with a Lamedh instead of netrods.

I would rather play one group of 11 orders instead of the two groups you are going, because one group will grant you two main benefits. First with one group you will not establish previously where the orders are going and secondly, you opponent can't use commands tokens to take two orders of your first turn (if you are going first).
Now for the Fireteams, they are not bad but they share a weakness, both have units that to an extent, want to advance and want to get close to the enemy and are hackable, this is in a list without engineers.
It's just something to be careful because i know what is to have this pain train of Ajax trying to get on CC but being completely useless in a game because of some hacker, something not really difficult to do because of his low WIP. For Hector is the same, but he has a lot more defense on that front (higher WIP and the Tinbot) but it is more expensive and your LT so you can lose a lot more if they hack him.
I love Atalanta but mainly for the active turn,on her own terms...for defense not so much, she will still be able to shoot mainly on 17s, but she will just fire back 1 shot against 3-5 shots and if just one of those is better your 39 points, 1 wound sniper is gone for good.

But this is just my insight (Of course affected by my style and local meta) play what you like and want and decide based on that.

I would play something like this...
    Steel Phalanx

HECTOR Lieutenant Plasma Rifle, Nanopulser, Stun Grenades + 1 TinBot A / Heavy Pistol, EXP CC Weapon. (0 | 71)
    THORAKITES HMG, Nanopulser / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 22)
    THORAKITES Engineer Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 18)
THORAKITES (Forward Observer, 360º Visor) Submachine gun, Chain Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 13)
PHOENIX Heavy Rocket Launcher, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Heavy Pistol, DA CCW. (2 | 40)
MACHAON Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, Eclipse Grenades / Pistol, DA CCW. (0.5 | 38)
MYRMIDON Chain Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 16)
MYRMIDON Chain Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 16)
    ATALANTA MULTI Sniper Rifle + TinBot E (Spotter) / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 39)
SCYLLA Hacker (Killer Hacking Device UPGRADE: Maestro) Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser + 1 Devabot Charybdis / Pistol, E/M CC Weapon. (0.5 | 27)
[IMG] DEVABOT CHARYBDIS Heavy Flamethrower / Electric Pulse. (7)

    6 SWC | 300 Points

    Open in Infinity Army

This way the list is one group, 11 regular orders ,Hector has a B5 to shoot down things that are paying for MSV that would hinder your Myrmidon link, that is now not hackable (of course not counting jammers) that maybe is more fragile but has resilience in other ways.. It adds a medic to your list, and Eclipse grenades. Scylla can hunt enemy hackers, protect hector or go solo hunting with cyber mask, although you could change her for Chandra if you want some presence midboard at the start of the game.

You should go the way @Kortz shows. Steel Phalanx works well in Limited Insertion (one group), especially with a big one (Hector / Achilles).
The Hector link features two specialists and two hitters (long and short range) ; it can advance at its own pace and do objectives. The only downside is that Hector will have to slow due to Thorakitai 10-5 move.

The Myrmidon link is the standard SP link. I'm not totally sold on Machaon when he's not LTN and I would go for a Myrmidon Officier CoC instead.
That would let you with 30 pts / 0 SWC for your last man/woman (ex: Andromeda), 39 if you go Agêma sniper instead of Atalanta (ex: Hippolyta). That's only a matter of taste though.
