I think code one is a fab idea. My predictions: Super simplified abilities. Smaller play area, less troops, no long range weapons, similar set up to recon rules. No BTS. Little or no ammo types. Maybe DA? No templates No hacking. CC abilities reduced to a few levels. A simplification of camo rules, if camo is there at all. Delaying an ARO is very confusing to new learners. No g/synched stuff. None of the cool units with special rules like Posthumans, Su Jian and Seed Soldiers
Note that there is a bit of a mixup when tournaments are discussed in the video - there will be not be a CodeOne ITS, it's aimed specifically at casual players.
Thing I haven't seen yet in this topic but that I had discussed with friends: C1 will also probably see the current OOP armies/sectorials minis out, because of the "accessibility" thing. That means no more Acontecimento, Tohaa, Merovingien and alike units for C1 players. I bet still unreleased models will also be left out. As someone stated earlier, it gives the "MtG standard" feel to Infinity, lessen the gap to jump into the game for newcomers.
Based on the idea that Code One will be at a complexity level similar to Operation Whatever, we can make some informed guesses: 1. Units will have the same stats/attributes as per normal. 2. Units will have simpler weapons loadouts - eg. in Wildfire, no-one has pistols or CCWs. 3. Units will have limited / simplified skills and equipment - eg. in Coldfront, Dakinis and Vet Kazaks had no mimetism. I'm not sure stuff will be *that* limited, but it's certainly indicative of stuff being simple.
Honestly, code 1 COULD just be vanilla factions. Why include link rules? As of now, those are considered “advanced” rules anyway.
My message wasn't about sectorials as lists but as minis, meaning a lot of models/units will be probably wiped entirely from C1 to lessen the gap between players.
Hmmm....if Code One will be that simplified ... I don't know who will play it. Experienced tourney players - like very rare, I guess... Newbies ... might enjoy it, but real infinity is like a waaaay different game. You have some fancy nice easy light random game - take a look, then try a real-man-game. What do you think their reaction will be? First of all it will split newbies from experienced players, then newbies will leave game sooner, as simple infinity - is a dice-festival which is even worse comparing to any GW product. I personally think that intro missions, with cut off rules make Infinity learning only worse. Like hey - you can move up to your move parameter, so simple and nice... Then meet real movement - you won't move in open, not to be out of cover, you should consider movement in prone, cautious movement, jumping, climbing, move with stealth, or without it...
There already exist people out there that buy the "Operation: Whatever" boxes and only play the included missions for months. Some of them later make the jump to Infinity. My guess is that Code One is aimed to those people, and it will be a product that makes the jump less scary because you can also expand your basic collection (the contents of the "Operation: Whatever" box) with a few more models/rules and then, if you are still interested in Infinity, take the challenge and start playing N4. Also, considering the small amount of rules involved and the simplified profiles... a wild guess: Code One products will include cards with the stats/equipment/skills of the models printed.
Ah, no they aren't. See http://infinitythewiki.com/en/Basic_Rules You could mistakenly get the idea that Fireteams aren't basic rules because they're in HSN3, but that book follows the same divisions that the core book does. Remember, also, that the Operation rules pamphlets don't cover all of the basic rules. It's likely that the line between "basic" and "advanced" is going to get moved, but I think it's more likely that they'd reinstate a basic version of hacking than move fireteams to the Advanced section.
In the think starter rules are absolutely needed. I think cb has flattened their growth and needs to figure out how to accelerate adding players. In order to do that you need a playable game that doesn't scare people off and the even the basic concepts of infinity are very different from almost all miniature games. Aro, order activations, army build, how an lt works etc. So I dont think it will be operation rules and done, it will be something new because in think n4 is not going to be n3.5 so they will build very differently the 2 games so they feed into each other. Additionally I think they will be happy with players who want more wargame and less rpg and stay in c1 but build out their armies. Cb has a major challenge to grow its base to a long term sustainable amount. my hope is this will do that. My fear is the rule set will be clean and playable to the point that hard core competitive players will flock to it and crush newbies souls before they can build up their anti beard armor.
I don't think the "hardcore" will be swapping to C1 as most of them are already playing because they like the current complexity. ITS is going to be "full fat" N4 only so it's not like you can stomp newbies at a C1 tournament to increase you ELO ranking. The most dedicated tournament players are more likely to disregard C1 as it doesn't feature in "competitive" ranked play.
Code One seems also more for the casual players who already like the models and fluff of Infinity but find the game too difficult/complex for them
Can't believe that. That might happen only in a world where Infinity is the onliest game on a market. Ok...might be, but still it should be like mega-super-dupa-rare... Other thing, that people buy just to have it... and after sometime those buys are going to ebay with lower price.
That you don’t believe it doesn’t stop it being true. In my experience it’s been pretty common that local wargamers pick up an Operation: X box, play through the missions several times but can’t/don’t want to make the jump to N3 because it’s too big a jump, but the limited replayability and forces of the box aren’t enough to keep them in. CodeOne is exactly what they will want to play.
wow.... I don't know why, but I feel sad for this people 0_0 ... They saw light glimpse of Sun, but that was enough to blind them ;(...so sad :(
Or they saw every "full game" of infinity come with tons of rules ambiguity because even the regular players miss stuff from time to time due to the sheer volume of content (see: players finishing top at events such as ITS realising they made mistakes, being called out on mistakes, judges getting rulings wrong...)
I feel sad for them, too ... So many different games, but their heads can't fit any more, can't change... terrible...terrible... :)
Code one sounds boring if it is indeed a watered down version of Infinity. Plus, I don't think that is actually helpful for a new person entering an existing meta. Probably fine for two people who have never played the game before and have nobody to teach them. For example, if you learn C1 and play it for awhile until you feel comfortable with its rules and your army; then essentially you will have to 'unlearn what you have learned' as your models points and abilities change when you play the normal version of the game. You're repeating the new player learning curve twice for the same game. TLDR: Just streamline N4 so you don't need two versions of the same game. Perhaps this is just a cash grab to get new players to buy two things instead of one.
