This past weekend we had an ITS tournament at Kirwan's Games, in Catskill NY. It was a pretty solid turnout with 12-14 players, the missions were: Frontline, Acquisition, Supplies.

    For Frontline, I brought

As far as list building goes, this was a pretty standard list for me barring a few exceptions. I felt obligated to take the Team Sirius FO because of the possible 2 extra points you can score in frontline and Acquisition. I also included the Cyberghost because my other list had a Kappa hacker and in case I ran into some tough MSV armies I figured the white noise would be really beneficial.

I won the LT. roll and elected to deploy second on the side with a little more cover – the board was kind of sparse. He chose to go second because the mission is scored at the end. This was a big mistake on his part.

My opponent was playing U.S. Ariadna and really didn't know what to expect – I think that was a big advantage I had in all three of my games. He deployed a grunt sniper tower on a high-rise building, 2 camo tokens, a marauder haris, Rosie floating between the two links as a spare tire for either, an engineer, some baggage remotes and a LRL motorcycle.

I deployed my epsilon on a cliff face with visibility to 2 grunt snipers, the engineer and Rosie. A Varangian was placed close by. The alpha hid, beta went in the middle my DZ, the rest of the Varangians were sprinkled out and the Dakini was deployed so that he could move and shoot another rifle grunt, and then in a couple of other orders start picking at that haris team. the gangbusters were deployed toward the mid point for defense.

I smoked the epsilon and spent 5 orders shooting things one at a time. 2 grunts and the engineer die, but Rosie dodges away since I was a little over 32. From there the dakini kills another grunt and moves into the middle of the board to lock down that motorcycle that will be moving next turn. My gangbuster moves up the board to get at a camo token marked as the Liaison officer. His turn is spent moving the motorcycle and Rosie up, getting into fights with he epsilon and the Dakini who outrange them and eventually both Rosie and the motorcycle go down.

Turn 2 is spent killing a few more orders, forward observing the motorcycle with Team Sirius and scoring my card and throwing marksmanship on the Dakini and just going to town on those Marauders. His turn 2 is spent moving the other foxtrot around trying to score a card but gets stuck by a mad trap before he can make it to my side.

Turn 3 is spent me moving things into zones and killing his LT along with the remaining order generators he had left. He brings Van Zant on and kills my epsilon, then rests in his far zone but can't outscore Varangians and the cyberghost among other things. 10-0 victory for me.

Next mission was Acquisition, I didn't write a list specifically for this one so I figured I would kind of make the call between the two when I saw my opponent. I was playing against Varuna. So I chose the list above. I won the roll and elected deployment, he chose to go first.

He threw down two helots, Fusi+Kamau sniper core, patsy haris with a HRL and HMG kamaus, two Zulu cobras, a doctor, an engineer and some bots. His first turn was spent moving the Haris up and killing one of my gangbusters, he left the HMG out to ARO. He moved some camo tokens up aswell. My first move was to kill the Kamau HMG, the beta took care of him nicely. With him gone I spent orders on a Varangian, moving up, intuitive attacking a Zulu Cobra but failing the FtF and taking a wound, then running into contact with the HRL and beserking him. I tried to white noise and quietly push a button with Team Sirius but failed the roll like 3 times and didn't have enough orders to do it and get back to safety.

His turn 2, he decided to try and kill some of my orders, he took the time and shot at some 8 point bots, got really really lucky with patsy and inflicted a wound on my beta (seriously, 3 on 5s vs. my 1 on a 13). He wasn't trying to commit to anything. He also killer hacked my gangbuster and shot at some mad traps the other one dropped into standby before he got shot, he also decided to start moving his core team out from their bunkered position. My turn 2 I got pretty unlucky. I shot at a zulu cobra through smoke and he made his dodge. I shot at a Fusilier with my Dakini who made her dodge. I shot at a trauma doc who made her dodge. But I was able to kill a fusilier Missile, finally, and knock that link team down from 5. I engaged the dreaded Kamau MSR with my epsilon and won, knocking him unconscious.

His turn 3 was spent pushing a console and controlling it with a Zulu cobra, moving patsy into contact with the central objective. He doctored the missile and failed 2 times and then got him back up. He also tried doctoring the Kamau HRL but failed and killed him because he was out of command tokens. Patsy goes suppressive and passes turn. I had a pretty big bite to chew here, I used my beta to shoot the Zulu off the console, but got killed in return because of a helot. I threw smoke down and shot patsy through it with my epsilon to see if I could kill her or just force her to go away. She passes her save and hid behind the tech coffin. I used some more smoke to cover my approach and moved an 8-point bot into contact with the objective so no one would control it at the end of the game. I threw on enhanced jump, and brought the delta in on the right console, moved and pushed the button then controlled it. I had an order or two left with nothing I could really do. I made my Liaison roll at the end of the game. 3-1 victory for me.

Game 3 was supplies, I used this list:

    Supplies

Similar to the first list but I changed the second group quite a bit. I figured I needed more long range defense for this mission.

I won the roll and chose sides – he chose to go first. He was playing Tunguska and deployed a Securitate link team, and grenzer sniper by himself on a roof top, Mary problems, an interventor and pupptactica with no bots, a specter in hidden deploy, a doctor and some 8-point bots. His first turn was spent moving the Securitate link up and HMGing an 8-point bot and then making way for the supply crate on my right side. Before he got there he moved his entire link team from one side of the objective to the other – I inform him I have an ARO. I reveal the Lynx Plasma Carbine. Only one shot, but he's in my good range and with the template I literally hit every single one of these Securitate. I figured I would lose the FtF to the HMG but I have a pretty damn good chance of reducing the other members to a hot red paste. But I roll an 18 and miss entirely. My assumption was correct and I lose my lynx. Next order I try the same thing as he engages another 8-point bot, this time with the multi sniper. I figured it would be nice to force him to split B, maybe win the ftF and catch the rest of the link in the open. My lynx dies. He also moves an 8-point bot into my DZ to try and lock down my hackers.

My first turn is spent killing that 8-point bot. Throwing down some smoke and shooting that grenzer with the epsilon, then engaging the Securitate HMG and losing the FtF. T_T. I spend a bunch of order moving my doctor, getting the epsilon up and finally killing the Securitate HMG and breaking the link team. I pass.

His second turn is spent grabbing a box on the right with the Securitate Para, revealing a specter, moving up and, placing mines and generally trying to be annoying. My second turn, I throw down smoke and I have a shot on Mary problems with my epsilon, she makes her dodge. I decide to use the Beta to whop this specter, I move into position, setting off a mine. I catch him without cover in the 8-16 band. My 4 on 10s vs his 1 on a 6. He beats me in the FtF. I fail my mine save and my Boarding shotgun save. goodbye beta. The Varangian finally gets the job done in CC and passes her return save. The rest of my turn is spent grabbing the central box with a gangbuster and the left box with the doctor and retreating about 4 inches to total cover.

Turn 3 he brings on Raoul specter, kills the doctor holding the box, uses the interventor white noise to kill my epsilon but was pretty starved for orders and ends there. He also scores his card by shooting the specter with a medkit before running the safety. I knock Raoul into NWI with a down town LSG shot from a Varangian on his last 2 orders. My last turn is spent killing Raoul with a Varangian and then moving the Kappa hacker and picking up the box. 4-2 victory in my favor. I think this was the unluckiest I've ever been while still maintaining the win in a game.

While I was undefeated I ended up in second because of my two minor wins. Overall a very good showing and a really fun day! I'm looking forward to the next tournament on Oct.12th in Maplewood NJ. I'll be bringing O-12 again. I'm going to give some time to myself to think about it but in a further post I'm going to try and discuss what really worked for me in these games and what didn't. what I would change and what I would like to explore further. but in the mean time: do you guys plan on bringing O-12 to an ITS? Have you?

I think at this point the surprise factor is very real and very scary for a lot of people.

Thanks for the battle reports. I always enjoy reading those.
What took first if I can ask. Also see any tags on the field?

Vanilla YJ. He's a very skilled player, usually runs Tac Tao with a Tiger soldier, Kuangshi, monks, and a Rui shi, among other things.

As for TAGs, there was a Varuna player, not the one I played, who had a TAG in each of his lists, one with a Cutter and the other a Squalo. I think both we're ten order lists and he finished 3rd or 4th.
