And the last piece I needed to get done prior to the weekend.

I had to rush him a bit, still needs a few highlights (particularly on his rifle) but he'll do for now!

Also, miscounted my batch of bases so quickly did the base tones with the airbrush and slapped the last koala on it.

I will attempt to get a full group shot at sometime over the weekend. Plus game shots!

    And antics, I'm sure.

Quick update from the airport on the way home. Lost the first round, then submarined 3 majors and a minor win leaving me in 4th place.

Also was peer voted best painted, which I am so amped for, especially considering the short time frame that I've pumped this army out.

I'll have a proper write up sometime in the next couple of days. In the meantime, here's a classic wu ming rescue shot

Alright, I'm going to temper expectations - I don't have a group shot for you yet

I was planning on taking group shots of all the models on display, but the table we set them up on had such terrible lighting for photography that you wouldn't be able make anything out. It will come though.

So I piloted the two lists above to 4th place, over a 5 round event with 22 players. The scenarios were; Firefight, Transmission Matrix, Frostbyte, Rescue, Unmasking.

The Wu Ming list was developed to take on Frostbyte and Rescue, the Tanko list for the other 3 scenarios. All things considered, the plan went pretty well.

    Round 1

    Firefight into USAriadna.

I finally got to play my friend Oli of Battle Kiwi fame. We've known each other for a few years but aren't based in the same town so don't get to play casually, and we've managed to dodge each other at events so far. So I was super stoked with getting to play his grunts finally.

Unfortunately for me, his grunts seemed pretty eager to ruin my day. 1 infiltrating grunt passed its roll to set up a flamer template over my tanko when my desperado would impetuous forwards. The meant, between the command token removing 2 orders, and me spending 1 to prevent the desperado ruining my own link team, I was down to 4 regular orders in my Group 1. There's not much to really say about this game otherwise, my desperado didn't end up doing much, and his two seemed to be made of Jotum armour

My haris was engaged in a pitched battle with a core team of marauders, which I managed to convincingly lose. The game ended in a 9-0 win for Battle Kiwi and my EVO hacker was the sole survivor. Not an ideal start.

    Round 2

    Transmission Matrix into TAK

Luckily I managed to dodge one of the 6 Nomad players for this mission, because I didn't really have an adequate answer with the amount of heavy infantry I had in both lists. I played Matt one of the travelers from my town, who I play semi-regularly. I went second in this scenario, using the Tanko list again. The Yuan Yuan from group 2 managed to pull E/M grenades (yikes!) and I got the drop on the Line Kazak link to drop their bonuses. From then on it was all focus on my core team. They managed to put down the Irmandinhos and a few camo markers.

With all the regular orders spent on the YY in group 2, the haris just kinda chilled. This turned out to be a pretty big deal when Matt moved a parachutist on and killed my Brawler lieutenant in his turn 2 :flushed: . This meant I turned a few of the core team members regular with command tokens and the haris didn't activate for turn 2 either. Luckily I was still pressing the advantage on the antennae.

Matt managed to kill the designated target with his datatracker - a Ratnik - whereas I had to rely on a YY, which crit with it's pistol! Gotta love that BS 9. I did get a classified with the IntelCom symbol to push my OP back up, meaning I won 9-4 in the end.

    Round 3

    Frostbyte into Yu Jing

This table was terrible. It was supplied by the store we were playing at, but as you can see it didn't really fit the aesthetic or purpose of Infinity terrain. I think it was a Bolt Action table. This game was pretty much decided in the first 5 orders. My opponent was running a limited insertion list with a bunch of camo and heavy infantry. He spent the first 4 orders on his Mowang with Red Fury. It plodded forwards, and blew up my Keisotsu FO. Then It rounds a corner to see my Rui Shi, and a camo marker. The Libertos revealed and fired its shotgun at 0 range. Crits on a 5. The Rui Shi winns the FtF but the shot bounces. 3rd order same thing. Both the Libertos and Rui Shi crit and there goes the Mowang.

Order 5, the Hac Tao reveals to engage the Wu Ming linked HMG. The Wu Ming crits on a 10 and forces the Hac Tao to disengage. From my turn onwards I spent the Krakot to deal with the Hac Tao in CC, and the Wu Ming established a pretty strong central board presence. Yojimbo raced up the board and managed to kill a few models in his deployment zone by the end of turn 2, and eventually succumbed to the cold. 9-1 win for the Ikari company.

    Round 4

First round on day 2, Rescue into Nomads

Rescue was modified for this tournament (advertised well in advance). Rather than a full zone of difficult terrain, we had special "Crowd" terrain zones that acted as saturation as well. This meant the movement was still impeded, but you could work around it. I played the Wu Ming list again, and went first. The Krakot ran forwards with its impetuous to try and draw some intruder fire, which worked and allowed the Rui Shi to engage it without risking a discover later in the turn. There was a lot of posturing for position in the first two player turns, and we were both trying to avoid each others' crazy koalas. I pushed the Wu Ming up the right hand side and managed to clear out most threats, with the Kriza deployed on the far left flank I could position them pretty aggressively for AROs. By the end of my second turn I had 2 civvies synced to Wu Ming, and a 3rd to my ninja, but they were all quite exposed.

My opponent did well to take out two of my civevac troopers, but my Wu Ming datatracker still had their civvie. In my third turn I smoked up, and ran him back into my deployment zone. My opponent only had enough orders to get his Kriza to sync a single civvie in the exclusion zone, giving me a 5-1 minor win.

    Round 5

    Unmasking into Combined Army

A lot of vanilla factions on display. This opponent was running an Avatar list. Luckily, I was able to rely on my 9 point models to save the game. I got first turn, and dropped my first YY in among my link team to try and help deal with the Speculo. he scattered, and was blown up by the Avatar. Ok, second one tries to come down in the same spot. He lands, and gets shot by a Noctifer, killing a Keisotsu and the Brawler sniper in the process. This is the one major mistake that I made all tournament, and was a big swing in my opponent's favour. I knew that there would be a Noctifer hiding, and had planned to move the desperado first to drop smoke but completely brain farted. Failing that, I should have dropped the YY next to the Speculo so that the Noctifer couldn't fire in blast mode. The 3rd YY walked in the side, and was arguably woman of the match.

My first turn was spent dealing with the Noctifer with the Rui Shi, and the Speculo with almost everything else. My Ninja moved up, flipped 2 consoles and revealed the designated target plus a decoy. In my opponent's turn he engaged with the Avatar, taking a wound off my Blizten Tanko and killing the Rui Shi. He repositioned back and killed the desperado right at the end. Now is the time for the YY to shine. With its impetuous order it moved straight towards the Avatar. Realising he'd made a positioning mistake, my opponent dodged the Avatar to get a better LoF on his HVTs. I then spend the irregular order on the YY, move 4", Avatar AROs a shot and the YY throws a smoke 16" blocking the Avatar's LoF to the table. Avatar rolls a 20 to hit and the YY lands that smoke. I've now got a full turn without any major enemy ARO threats to take out the two revealed HVTs and set up road blocks for the rest of the game. From here on my opponent had to play catch up and over committed his Avatar, having to drop the Staldron out to push a button and getting it killed, locking the TAG until the beginning of his 3rd turn. This was all capped off with the Avatar taking an unopposed ARO from a Keisotsu who inevitably crit him on a 1 for the kill. A 9-0 win.

And so there we have it. 5 games that I felt super prepared for, starting off with a thrashing and then performed the ultimate submarine by dodging the top 3 players :innocent: Honestly, I'm more stoked by the Best Painting award, but I regularly scrub out of tournaments that I travel to, so I'm really happy with pulling off a 4th place finish. I was awarded with the alternate Guija from the Xenotech box for the painting prize, so I grabbed the Invincible Army starter that was available for 4th place, and I got $40 credit. Guess I'm playing Invincibles next? Even though I had fully intended to jump head first into Shas when Wildfire comes out  . Still, I have a unit of Druze and those remotes to paint in the next 3 weeks for the next event, so I won't be starting on either of those projects any time soon!

Thanks for following along on my journey - but it's not over yet!

    Hey Fathoym,

thanks a lot for sharing your success with us!

Well deserved placing from what I can tell, and well deserved best painted award!

Fun fact: I just yesterday saw and recognized your army in the new YouTube video of @Vaulsc

What with Dashat stealing all the limelight recently it’s good to see that Ikari has some successes to show for itself as well!

I plan to *expand into druze with this army anyway, so hunting party in an upcoming event was the perfect excuse to get them on the table.

*I say expand loosely, since I only really need to add hunzakuts

    5.5 SWC | 300 Points

This list is designed to tackle both Hunting Party and Show of Force - two missions in a tournament next weekend. The general thought being in Hunting Party it has plenty of Veterans to get free ADHLs, and when the Brawler LT gets hunted down I can swap the LT to one of the Druze who is immune to Isolation. There's also plenty of E/M, particularly the grenade launcher to isolate specialists and E/M is also good in a mission like Show of Force which we're likely to see plenty of TAGs.

I really want to squeeze in a Cube Jaeger for the unsuspecting E/Mitter shots as well, but I can't find the space without dropping something that feels like it'll do more work.

I played Show of Force vs a JSA O-Yoroi list. It... did not go well

I got second turn, and managed to survive an ambushing Oniwaban that only managed to take out the Druze HMG, but died to a hail of fire when it tried to engage the grenade launcher. From there, it all went pretty downhill. The libertos did not live up to its speed-bump potential, but I didn't lose too much else in the JSA turn 1.

I fell into a trap of trying the new shiny things, and spent much of my first turn trying to spec fire E/M onto the O-Yoroi. I have since realised that I should have fired the pitcher and used the AHD to either isolate it (I knew it was the LT) or possess it and move it to a position where the Blitzen Tanko could shoot it in the back.

Scarface really underperformed, but after I lost the majority of the link team I had to commit him to try and get some work done. He does not square off well against an O-Yoroi at 32" and he was unable to win any FtF rolls, even with the panzerfaust.

So overall, I feel like I have learned a bit in this game - tough love style. I don't think there were any integral weaknesses to the list, so I'll try it a couple more times before I decide on any changes for next week.

The list good to me. I think you are correct in that you need try it a few times.

I think maybe a Tanko ML can really help for more range. If you can, upgrade the basic Druze to have panzerfaust. You can even do a refill with the bag-bot. Those things are awesome with the X-Visor and FAT1. And when something gets too close, remember the Viral Pistols with FAT1 as well.

I’ve never used Scarface so I can’t say much to him. I’m more likely to take a Al Faseed HMG instead of him. In that kind of mission I think the Liberto would have served better as a "guard" for the Lt. No need to put him too far up.

I originally had the Tanko ML in the link, but with Scarface I just ran out of SWC. At this point, it's either the ML or the Rui Shi, and I want some form of MSV 2 in the list. The link itself does still pack a decent punch between the grenade launcher and the HMG, plus the single Blitzen volley when it's needed most.

I can see what you mean about guard duty for the libertos. I do have the dummy keisotsu lieutenant in the list too. I'm banking on my opponents being unfamiliar enough with Ikari to realise that the keisotsu has the SWC tax. I do like the libertos in the midfield generally, as there isn't much other skirmisher presence, and they can be pretty good mine clearers which can really threaten the YYs and krakot (which I'd rather not risk so they can get some work done).

I’m going to be trying out Scarface today. Mission is Show of Force. I was thinking of doing it with his Druze buddies but they can be a bit expensive with him so I think I'll go with the normal Tanko+Keisotsu+Brawler.

Cool! How did this go? I've not used a Bashi yet, how do you use it? As a decoy LT, or as an aggressive piece coming on from the table edge?

I used my Scarface/Druze list for a second game over the weekend in Tic-Tac-Toe. Not the most ideal scenario for the list, but I was mostly trying to practice piloting the list rather than practice winning the scenario. Scarface did well in that game, I found holding him in back in my deployment zone and using him to bully in turn three worked well. It let me set him up in suppression fire in the centre of the board to shoot at any specialists trying to make last ditch attempts to get the antennae worked pretty well - even though he was frenzied and didn't get cover.

Edit: added game photos including stealth sleepy-doggo

Well Scarface didn’t do too well. He forgot we were playing show of force and didn’t do a TAG. He was doing tunguska with Hollowman team. Scarface was a bit too fat and when the missile launcher jumped on top of a building, he could see the back side of him.

Best part of the game was an SMG Bounty Hunter taking out Roul Spector with shock in ARO.

I love the bashi with E/Mauler. I took him because i thought I’d be going against a TAG. as it was they are very good against holomen too! except he had an engineer always close buy :( It’s really fun to bring out the Bashi and lay down a mine at the opponent deployment. I like to bring him out, lay down mines and then put him in suppressive fire. That’s the plan anyway lol.

    Here's what I took.
