We are currently running a small Escalation Paint&Play-campaign, hosted by @Harlekin, in my FLGS. I decided to participate with Hassassin Bahram as I wanted to get back into Haqqislam after leaving my QK back in N2.

As we all start with a Starterbox as a base and incorporate additional models with each round, I stayed away from the outdated QK Starter (those Hafzas did not age well at all) and committed myself to the honourable cause of the Hassassins.

There is further information on this site: https://infinitymuenchen.wordpress.com/2019/06/09/escalation-campaign-4-paint-play/

Round 1 – Mission “Time is money” (150pts/3SWC, mission points for activating and holding consoles, extra achievement points for painted models that translate into XP for SpecOps or other traits / Extra rules: just models from the starter available with free choice of loadout, SpecOps, No Fireteams)

I had the chance to do a testgame against another participant of the campaign (this was the third game of Infinity in his life! :) ) playing Foreign Company (with some awesome painted models!). I played this list:

    Hassassin Bahram

    3 regular / 3 irregular

DAYLAMI HMG / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 17) (designated SpecOps – counts as specialist operative)
    DAYLAMI HMG / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 17)
    DAYLAMI HMG / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 17)
MUYIB Lieutenant Rifle + Light Grenade Launcher (Normal and Smoke Ammo.) / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 23)
FARZAN (Minelayer) Boarding Shotgun, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 23)
ÁYYĀR (Surprise Shot L2) Shock Marksman Rifle / 2 Viral Pistols, CCW, Knife. (0 | 39)

    3 SWC | 136 Points

He had 3 Securitate (1 Feuerbach), Sr. Massacre, Orc and another modell I do not recall. I lost 0-8… I lost initiative, went first. Nothing really worked the way I planned it. I had difficulties in using the Ayyar, the Daylamis were not able to hit anything and made some bad decisions, finishing with just 2 active miniatures in round 3. I tried to shoot his Securitate Feuerbach but he saved every hit he got or won the FtF-rolls. Good it was just a testgame….

For the real campaign game, I changed some profiles and chose a different approach on the mission. In the testgame, I used the Ayyar as my main attack piece and the Farzan Minelayer as an ARO piece. Now I tried it the other way around with 2 Holo-Echoes Ayyar Sniper and an offensive Farzan FO for objective grabbing.

    Hassassin Bahram

    3 regular / 3 irregular

DAYLAMI HMG / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 17) (designated SpecOps – counts as specialist operative)
    DAYLAMI HMG / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 17)
    DAYLAMI HMG / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 17)
    ÁYYĀR Sniper / 2 Viral Pistols, CCW, Knife. (0.5 | 39) – Holoechoes 3 Sniper- ÁYYĀR
    MUYIB Lieutenant Rifle + Light Shotgun, Panzerfaust, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 24)
    FARZAN (Marksmanship L1, Forward Observer) Rifle + Light Shotgun, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 24)
    2 SWC | 138 Points

The problem with the HB starter is you are not able to get to 150 points with just those 6 models. This is the most points I could squeeze out of it, but 3 HMG Daylami and a Sniper looks very threatening for ARO :)

My opponent had the same problem as it is very very difficult with the Varuna Starter to just take 150pts and so he had to take this list

    Varuna Immediate Reaction Division

    6 regular

KAMAU (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 21)
KAMAU (Lieutenant) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 20) (designated SpecOps – counts as specialist operative)
    KAMAU Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 20)
    ZULU-COBRA (X Visor) Shock Marksman Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 25)
CROC MAN Boarding Shotgun, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 29)
    ORC Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 35)
    0 SWC | 150 Points

I won Initiative and went second but, of course, had to deploy first. The table was quite crowded, no real long firelanes and just lvl 1 buildings (bad for my HMGs and the Sniper Ayyar). I deployed the Ayyar on my left flank as Holomarkers (the real Ayyar had a formidable view down the only 2 long firelanes and covered the approach for the 2 consoles on the opposite side). Muyib and Daylamis took positions along the edge of my DZ in order to act as ARO-pieces. The Farzan was placed prone on a roof near the middle of the board. He hid his Crocman, infiltrated his Zulu-Cobra and hid everything else. I used a command token to deny him 2 orders and my opponent started his first turn

First turn he had just 3 Orders available, he critted my Muyib Lt. with his Zulu-Cobra but got a crit-ARO from the Ayyar in return. In my Turn the Ayyar killed one of his Kamau, my SpecOps activated the first console and the Ayyar was appointed Lt. Round 2 saw him advancing with another Kamau – but the Farzan shot him with his (shock) Rifle. He then activated his CrocMan who killed my Farzan but was killed by my Daylami SpecOps HMG in return. I had no targets, activated another console and went into suppression fire. Round 3 saw my opponent down to 2 orders that he spent for activating his second console. In my turn, my Daylami SpecOps tanked the crocman’s AP mine guarding the central console and captured that console, winning the game for me

The dice roll that won the game was the Initiative roll. Going second means a lot with just 6 orders maximum available. And changing my roster to the sniper Ayyar and the FO Farzan was also a good move.

Next game I am able to take 7 Miniatures and just 5 have to be from the Starter – that’s Fiday time!! :)

Round 2 in our little Escalation Campaign. Mission was called High Noon (secure own bridge head console, secure 2 areas in the middle of the table, activate 3 consoles in the middle). Game was 150pts/3 SWC, maximum 7 modells with at least 5 from the Starter Box (free loadout). Achievements for the campaign: Do not put more than 1 enemy in null state in round 1 / use all 6 modells from the Starter Box / have at least one of the non starter box modells painted / your SpecOp secures your own bridgehead / your SpecOp does at least one dice roll in the game.

    HB Round 2
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────
    5 Regular / 2 Irregular orders

GHULAM Lieutenant Missile Launcher / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 17)
    MUYIB (Infinity Spec-Ops) (2 XP) (Minelayer) Rifle, Light Shotgun, Panzerfaust / D-Charges, Pistol, Knife. (0 | 25)
DAYLAMI (CH: Limited Camouflage, Inferior Infiltration) Light Shotgun, Panzerfaust / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 8)
DAYLAMI (CH: Limited Camouflage, Inferior Infiltration) Light Shotgun, Panzerfaust / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 8)
ÁYYĀR (Surprise Shot L2) Shock Marksman Rifle / 2 Viral Pistols, CCW, Knife. (0 | 39)
FIDAY Rifle + Light Shotgun, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW, Knife. (0 | 30)
FARZAN (Forward Observer) Rifle + Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 23)

    2.5 SWC | 150 Points

    against

    Jurisdictional Command of Bakunin

    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────
    6 Regular / 1 Irregular orders

MODERATOR Paramedic (MediKit) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 11)
    MODERATORS (Infinity Spec-Ops) (0 XP) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 10)
REVEREND HEALER Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser / Pistol, EXP CCW. (0 | 32)
REVEREND MOIRA Lieutenant MULTI Rifle / Pistol, Shock CCW. (1 | 30)
    SIN-EATER Mk12 / Pistol, CCW. (0 | 30)
    RIOT GRRL Spitfire / Pistol, Knife. (2 | 34)
MORLOCK Chain Rifle, Smoke Grenades / Assault Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 8)

3 SWC | 155 Points <- my opponent used some Achievement XP from round one to get more points (campaign rules).

Bakunin won the initiative and chose to go first in the game. I chose sides and to deploy second. He dreaded a Fiday (which I held in reserve) and tried to cover all sides. I failed both Inferior Infiltration rolls and had to put my Daylamis in my own deployment zone. Farzan was in total cover in a building and the Fiday was placed on the enemy side of the table atop a level 2 building - right between his morlock, Rev Healer and Riot Grrl on ground level.

    Round 1:
Bakunin went first, lost 2 orders from me spending a command token and the Morlock headed straight up to my lines, critical discovered the Fiday (he idled) and was shot to pieces by the Muyib SpecOps Panzerfaust. The Rev Healer then discovered the Fiday and failed (Fiday idled again). Bakunin repeat that order and was successful (Fiday idled again). Next order saw the Rev Healer shooting my Fiday with his BS against my LSG (within 8 inches), hitting me 2 times – and 2 armor saves on 14 and 20 on my side. He did it again, but no hits scored (I smoke dodged but failed also). He moved his Riot Grrl to the base of the building the Fiday was on top and shot one of my Daylamis, killing him. Last regular order was his Moira moving up to take cover behind a building near my Farzan and going into suppression fire with his Lt. order. I started by moving my Farzan towards his Moira Lt. – Bakunin failed his Sin-Eaters discover roll. Farzan then shoots the Moira Lt. – knocking her out. I then did some minor repositioning, spending my last orders.
    Score HB 0 Bakunin 0

    Round 2:
Bakunin started in LOL. The Riot Grrl frenzied up the ladder and succeeded to hit my Fiday 3 times with her Spitfire. I needed to do 3 armor saves on 11s – and rolled… 3 times the needed 11. That was the moment Bakunin started to really hate the Fiday who apparently donned his Asawira Armor that morning…. He then tried to revive his Lt. with his Paramedic via automedikit, killing her in the end. The Rev. Healer shot my Fiday again – but he saved again his armor rolls. His Riot Grrl climbed the last inches atop the building and got AROs from Fiday and Ghulam Missile Launcher Lt. He killed the Ghulam and the Fiday (who failed his engage roll) succeded his next two armor saves (Fiday successful armor saves: 9). My Ayyar hit the Riot Grrl unopposed and reduced her to 2 wounds. Now I started in LOL also, killing the Riot Grrl with my Fiday’s LSG and moving the Ayyar to shoot at his Sin-Eater, killing him in the end. I then converted the last Daylamis Irregular order to regular and let the Fiday shoot at the Rev Healer – killing her. That action reduced Bakunin to just his 2 Moderators, putting him in Retreat! With my last order I moved the Farzan to secure one of the areas to claim at least some Victory Points and to cover Bakunins Bridgehead.
    Score: HB 2 Bakunin 0

    Round 3:
Bakunin converted his last two orders to regular and ran his Moderator SpecOps to secure his Bridgehead. He spend his last order reaching his bridgehead and shooting at my Daylami (Both missed) and hitting the Farzan, who got her armor save right and survived. Had she failed, Bakunin would have won the game.
Score: HB 2 Bakunin 2 – but Bakunin got all possible Achievement XP

It was a cool game with a bulletproof Fiday soaking up most of Bakunins orders.

I wish my fiday had that kind of armour XD hehehe

One question... Are you allowing take off two orders with a command token even if you are playing one group as a "house rule"? Or using others words, are you aware that you can`t take off orders from your rival orders pools if he is playing a single group?

    Thanks for share!!

    Best regards!!

That's a campaign rule. First turn, the player who goes second is allowed to spend a command token to "steal" 2 Orders from the active player's order pool - But the active player may choose what kind of orders - regular or irregular or one of each.

As HB Starter is 3 regular and 3 irregular orders, I would have chosen 2 irregular orders in my first game if I would have gone first.

Now I understand. I'am relieved because I thought maybe you were doing "a mistake", sorry :) Before the 8 ITS seasson (maybe 9) you could take off orders from a group even if the player had only one group, when the change comes it was (to me) a really good game improvement, but all is allright with yours "home made rule".

I only have read the rules of the campaign briefely, my german is not so fluid as it was years ago, but I saw a lot of good ideas and hard work, thanks for share. If I have time this days I will read completely. The names of some scenarios reminds me the TV Serie "Farefly" and too the "Game board" based on the Serie.

All credits for the campaign and booklet belong to @Harlekin as he is organising this campaign (and several others) in Munich. I am just participating and enjoying the games :)
