I've heard it called the McDonald's effect. Before big chains like McDonald's each town had their own Diner, these would be incredibly variable and often quite poor due to a lack of competition. For a traveling executive, workman, technician, engineer, etc each meal was a roll of the dice, would it be edible? Would it be affordable? Would it make you sick? There was no way to tell. McDonald's brought consistency, the food was of a predictable standard. A Big Mac tastes the same in Alabama, Texas, New York, wherever. Sure it wasn't great but it was predictable and reliable which was a huge improvement. The same happened with beer in the UK. When my Dad was at Uni you got whatever the local breweries put out which was usually highly variable even from batch to batch. Then you have the big lager brands like Carling, Carlsberg, Stella, etc coming along and now each pint is recognisable and the same as the last, not every pull of the pump is a roll of the dice. The small brands and independents then did one of two things, be consistently better than the big brands, becoming what we now call "Gourmet Burger" or "Real Ale/Craft Beer", or die off completely. For the record, I like IPAs because they're nice and bitter, I think it's the same part of me that likes strong, unsweetened black coffee or tea.
That, or if you are on the opposite end of the spectrum and need to specifically be playing your niche games on a Windows machine set to the correct locale for them to even launch properly.
It's called 'marketing', Pen. And if you think that smells like "organic steer manure fertilizer", you're right! It's a good way to teach roommates to stop drinking your beer without asking!
I drink my coffee black and unsweetened but I can't stand IPAs. Give me a nice Pilsener or Kolsch any day.
Same here, coffee needs to be black cause im not making a cake. Been there with Kölsch, but thats like drinking tap water if you are used to something else. ;)
Eisenhorn TV show, in the age of 'everyone-offended-all-the-time'? No matter how they do it, a vocal group will be offended they went too far, while a similarly vocal group will be offended they didn't go far enough. I don't see how this can succeed at all.
Producer will be Frank Spotnitz who created The Man In The High Castle TV Series. So i doubt it will be interesting after the first half season if you are familiar with the 40k Universe. It will only devide the Fanbase even more, like the new Star Wars Movie.
We've already got people saying they won't read 40k novels because they're "pro-Imperialism" so we could see more triggering than a full batallion of Guardsmen doing rapid fire while on Frenzon.
You really think "green is best" or "I'm the biggest, so I'm the boss" won't trigger thousands? You might get away without offending anyone with an Eldar Exodite slice-of-life, but only because you wouldn't have any viewers after the pilot!
I think orks would pass more easily because most of it would be silly and stupid shenanigans, with the rest being big ass combat scenes.
I am actually a pretty big fan of the Eisenhorn novels, so this pleases me. And people will complain, they always do, it doesn't really make a difference. The latest one I had heard was caused by a black woman becoming the new 007 after James Bond is disavowed, which just sounds like a plot point to me, but people seem to be losing their minds
Interesting. I've known it was semi-cannon (or maybe even official cannon, I don't care enough to find out) that James Bond was just a fake name handed down to top agents, along with the 007 number, so no reason the next Bond couldn't be a woman. Kind of weird though. Frankly I wrote off the James Bond franchise once Q was no longer in them. Just not the same. Comedian Trevor Noah's take on a black James Bond: Of course by that logic, James Bond should be that kind of indeterminate brown, like Dwayne Johnson. But then the tattoos would have to go.
She's not the new James Bond, she's the new 007 as Bond has retired (to Jamaica of course). Daniel Craig is still Bond, and will still be in the next film, he's just not 007.
Exactly, I think much of the outrage comes from people that aren't 007 fans. There have been female 00 agents. There have been black 00 agents. There have been 00 agents that retire and someone else takes their place. This is just the natural progression of the story. Just because James is a white guy doesn't mean the next agent to be promoted to the post has to be too
