And now I've been compelled to write an article on it: https://heartofthehyperpower.blogspot.com/2019/05/to-orc-or-not-to-orc-that-is-our.html
Well, I really like the first FT in VIRD. I save the idea as this might be a way to make this FT. I would have taken Bipandra instead of the Paramedic though. In fact, except in ASA, there are a lot of way to build this FT and you don't really need to start with it in VIRD. You can work during first turn with just a Haris with Patsy and when you have started to loose some bodies in your core, bring them with the Haris and make a new core for the final push. Playing around FT during your game is one of the sexiest thing with the new settings for FT nowadays and VIRD is the best at this.
You can't take Bipandra in an ORC Core in VIRD. 'though you can probably actually still build that first team as a "Fusilier Core" (with 2 ORCs, 2 WildCards and Bipandra counting as a Fusilier) if you wanted to get her in.
As was pointed out in one of the responses to my Blog on Facebook, Foreign Company are also in the mix here. There's the 3 ORC + Avicenna + Valkyrie option: ORC HMG / Pistol, Knife. (2 | 44) ORC Boarding Shotgun + 1 TinBot A (Deflector L1) / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 36) ORC Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 35) AVICENNA Combi Rifle, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 27) VALKYRIE MULTI Rifle, Grenades / Heavy Pistol, EXP CC Weapon. (0 | 39) 2.5 SWC | 181 Points And then there's "The-A-Team" plus an ORC: ORC HMG / Pistol, Knife. (2 | 44) HANNIBAL (Chain of Command) MULTI Marksman Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 39) LAXMEE Hacker (UPGRADE: Maestro) Submachine Gun + Pitcher, Cybermines, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 34) SEÑOR MASSACRE Boarding Shotgun, E/M Grenades, Eclipse Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW, E/M CCW. (0 | 26) VALKYRIE Heavy Shotgun, Grenades / Heavy Pistol, EXP CC Weapon. (0 | 35) 2.5 SWC | 178 Points I'd say the former is better than the latter as a showcase of ORCs (and the latter is better with a Bolt rather than that ORC). But they do deserve to be part of the conversation.
I think that VORCs are by far the coolest and it just goes to show how a couple of pretty minor fluffy skills, a sweet paint scheme and cool background turns boring ol vanilla PanO troops into cool VIRD troops.
Which makes me wonder if we won't see other similar tweaks in the future. It'd fit PanO's theme of sharing basic troops between sectorials (as I won't be surprised if we'll see Fusiliers and ORCs in Svalarheima as well).
SORCs get Mountain Terrain and V: Courage. AORCs get Jungle Terrain and Kinematica L1. NORCs get 0-G and Number 2.
You serious ? Especially now that BS13 mimetism linkable 2W guys are being handled like candis and even BS14 are not hard to find (Asawira)
Well we already have MOORCs: Military Orders ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 3 KNIGHT HOSPITALLER HMG / Pistol, DA CCW. (2 | 39) KNIGHT HOSPITALLER Doctor (MediKit) MULTI Rifle / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 39) KNIGHT HOSPITALLER Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 31) 2 SWC | 109 Points Open in Infinity Army
IIRC the RPG mentions hardy Svalarheima Fusiliers. But as OS are supposedly a placeholder for a new unit, I expect some kind of Nilfheim Border Patrol as the basic infantry.
We can see both Fusiliers and some kind of new LI. Time will tell. We're getting off topic, though ;)
Sval Fusiliers also might be more like Regulars (which basically are Acon's version of Fusiliers to suit the requirements of their home planet or a green hell like Paradiso). Or Varuna style Orcs with altered/added Profiles.
