See title. I've been gone from infinity for a while and I seem to remember that models with CH: Camouflage could choose to deploy just as their model rather than a marker, but my memory could be playing tricks on me, or I could be remembering old rules. Help a returning player out?
Higher levels of Camouflage are optional; you can choose not to use them. They allow you to deploy a trooper in a Camouflaged state, not force you to do it.
Seems a waste. What's the camo doing for you at that point, why not just get something heavy and durable for a Datatracker or some such?
Different missions require different things from datatrackers. In decapitation for example, if I have the first turn, I'll gladly deploy a cheap camo infiltrator as a model to make them my datatracker in order to get 3 OP with my first order or two.
Datatrackers yeah. If I go first with Uxia I get a guaranteed 3 points on Transmission Matrix, which just so happens to be a mission for an upcoming tourney.
You still get the -3/-6 to hit. The way it reads: During the Deployment Phase, allows the user to deploy in the Camouflaged state. makes it seem like the marker state is optional, even if you choose not to bring it down to mimetism.
You're definitely allowed to deploy as a marker instead of a model, and there are visibility penalties associated there. My point is just that instead of paying for a camo unit that won't be utilizing camo, you might use a mimetism unit so that point cost could get you something useful. As a primarily Ariadna player I wasn't really thinking in terms of TO camo. ;)
I mean, normally you are right, but there are gimmicky strats involving units with unique (for your army) deployment rules to make use of for Datatracker-related objectives. Fiday comes to mind. Granted, you aren't probably achieving anything else with that unit.
