Three questions that have come up for me recently, and as I can never seem to figure out anything on Wiki, wondering if you can help me. Firstly, do camouflage markers block line of sight? My friend has used Antipodes this way and it seems pretty cheeky, wondering if its legitimate. Secondly, forcing smoke dodge. If a model moves along a path, and throws smoke at one part of the path, can I opt to shoot him at different parts of the path in order to force or remove the opposed roll? In this case, a trooper appeared and walked forward. I declared shoot. He threw smoke but it did not completely obscure the trooper - the aim was to create an unopposed smoke. Can I force the smoke to be opposed if I am targeting him in an area that would be blocked by the smoke? Third. I have three models near a TAG, which blocks line of sight to an area where there are several mines. The TAG spends an order and drives away. My models shoot. The mines will attempt to detonate, but the TAG is always in the blast area. Are the mines detonated and fail due to a friendly, or do they not detonate? I'm assuming they do not trigger, but as the rules say "must trigger" and "never trigger" I don't know what takes priority. Cheers for the assist!
Talked about here. It's worth noting that Holoechoes *do* have a specific exception marked out; they are treated like they are real troopers for the purposes of LoF. Yes. Because smoke grenades are template weapons, where they're targeted (and the LoF being used) has to be made clear upon declaration of the BS Attack skill that uses them. This means that unless you're firing a template weapon yourself, you can always choose your line of fire after seeing where they're tossing smoke - so if your opponent throws smoke as his first short skill, and you declare shoot as an ARO, then they move somewhere for their second skill, unless you used a template weapon you can shoot them anywhere along the path, and potentially where the smoke cloud does not protect them, making it a normal roll on both your parts. They would fail to detonate as they could not place their template in such a way that they could catch at least one enemy and not the TAG. This situation is very rare, however, as mines can explode in such a way that the template isn't flat on the ground, or whatever, and if they can explode so that they catch at least on enemy trooper or marker that is activating by skill or ARO, and no friendlies, they will do so.
faced antipode for the first time in a tournament this weekend, there was a trooper (not the controller) surrounded by 3 big camo. i wanted to shoot him with the shotgun to hit two more antipode, but he was saying the first antipode was blocking my LoF to the trooper. Found it odd, but I played along, declared discover which passed. Then next order i shotgun all 4.
I think CB put the whole "camo tokens don't block LoF" bit in to prevent situations exactly like this. Glad it didn't prevent you from gettin' em good.
