Please note that Al Fasids of Ramah got exactly the same Special Duo ability.

As I've noted in the QK tactical thread, this puzzles me to no end... what the heck is the point of that, CB?

Yeah, but what is the point of this specific option?

The only thing a Duo gives you is Order economy: you can haul two models with a single Order. Which usually I see being a good idea for a combatant & a specialist Duo: a strong shooty model moving upfield and cost-effectively bringing a nerd to their Objective. Or a combatant bringing up a medic to heal him. Or having a backup combatant up there once the first one fails. All of these depend on having to do a lot of Move skills.

Not the case for either Azra'il, Al Fasid (at least the HMG loadout, the HRL might want to make some use of its SMG) or Shaytanyah REM: all of them prefer long lines of fire, so (at least in my prcatice) usually don't need or have much room for movement...
However, keeping them in ZoC of the other team member actually limits your options regarding placement.

The Azra'il is so good now. You can spend an order and move move your bs 11 b1 missile bot up to get really close to warbands and skirmishers for reasons??? And then once you're at the objective you can stand there in your bad range bands with your really expensive low burst attack pieces because....????

I feel like CB somehow forgot (or didn't bother) to include a short-range option for Shaytaniyah or Azra'il; like, have one of the FTO options include a heavy shotgun or an Mk12 or a flamethrower – anything really. Maybe they're gonna update the rules for Duo link teams sometime in the future.

I'm pretty keen on the idea of this, although I also need to maybe fiddle with who goes in what combat group a bit

i like the list although i‘m not sold on the hafza with heavy rocket launcher
maybe its just my preference to let a link have a clear job to do.
and if you change the hafza for a normal ghulam and downgrade the bashi to a smg you can fit in another yuan yuan

or take the ghulam NCO to put some „save“ smoke down for the djanbazan

but that are just my thoughts about it on the paper could turn out to be very good on the actual table

But Hafza HRL brings a long-ranged Terminal Template to teams who may otherwise lack one - like Djanbazan, or Odalisques.
In a Ghulam team, the same role can be filled by Ghulam ML - for one point less (and all the differences between Ghulam and Hafza stat blocks, and ML vs HRL).

Additional bonus - it is a HRL your opponent doesn't know to be there, and maybe not even suspects to be. This may allow you to catch some unsuspecting models being bunched up under template.

Yuan Yuan are great, but they tend to be Order hogs. I find it too easy to burn my Order stack on one or two. Three I tend to see as excess...

This is the idea, a hidden impact template on the table can open up some very devastating options if used right in some circumstances. Plus the Hafza HRL has superior stats and the Assault Pistol.

So here is the most recent list I cooked up.

Maybe a bit overreliant on remotes, but I still think it's solid. Two long-ranged ARO pieces (Shaytaniyah and Mobile Brigada), a link team with Hafza FO masked as Spitfire Odalisque to help that Smart Missile Launcher mop up survivors in the late-game. Linked Djanbazan HMG with Ghulam NCO to maximize the MSV2 potential. Not much in terms of close to mid range defense to keep the remotes safe aside from LSG Rafiq and Ghulams. Still, should this backfire, you will still have a Najjarun with Nasmat.
Needless to say, the list is rather vulnerable to AD troops, but even if QK loses the initiative and doesn't go first, the linked Odalisque SMG should keep the remotes safe with the right positioning. If we opt to go first, well, there will be hell for the enemy: two Yuan Yuans with their irregular orders plus 6 orders from the 2nd group pool to deal as much damage as possible; then we move HMG Djan through NCO's smoke to destroy anyone without MSV2. Mobile Brigada and Shaytaniyah keep an eye out for the enemy troops advancing on the frontlines. Rafiq can be moved up midfield making Sat-Lock AROs to mark whatever targets go through its sensor area. I'm not sure if the Targeted state negates Smoke's Zero Visibility zone but if it does, that makes Rafiq a decent (not good, but decent) anti-smoke piece to help Mobile Brigada and Shaytaniyah against warbands and whatnot, and Sharif can use Rafiq's Repeater to defend it from hacking attempts.
So, first turn: you shred them with Yuan Yuan and the Djan link team. Second/third turn: you go for the objectives and secure the area, targeting and wasting enemy specialists and rambos with SML.
Feel free to point at any other weaknesses I might have overlooked.

I want to note: Sat-Lock is entire order Comms Attack. You can't use it as ARO.
And no, Targeted state does not cancel the effect of the Zero Visibility zone. Just +3 MOD.

Thanks! Didn't realize entire orders cannot be used for AROs. I still think it's a good choice for flank protection purposes since it can be used against camo markers.

Its not Entire Orders per se, but you can only use Skills with the label ARO. For instance, Spotlight and Forward Observer cant be used in Aro because they lack that label.

Ooooh, I see now. In that case, it makes Rafiq very situational since I would need to go first in order to discover infiltrators with Sensor. I'm probably going to switch him for some Boarding Shotgun corner defender or even a hacker to boost the SML.
EDIT: So I guess I can remove ML Mobile Brigada and Nasmat and switch them for Ghulam Hacker and Sekban HRL. Sekban has fairly comparable ARM (lacking only 1 point), a chain colt and an assault pistol so he can reliably defend himself (AND the Rafiq) in close quarters. Mobile Brigada has Courage and an extra wound though, so it has more survivability. Ghulam hacker can give Shaytaniyah Assisted Fire or Enhanced Reaction to make the remote either deadlier or shootier.
What do you guys think? Is it worth trading MB and Nasmat for those two?

MB has Courage, allowing the guy to go prone if need be. I think that makes him worth taking over Religious Janissary. Also, in this particular list, I'm not benefitting from a linked +3 BS +1B Janissary ML which is the only scenario I would consider taking him over MB who is unlinkable in QK. In short, I think MB is more survivable as a single unlinked model.

I dont belive in 1 dice ARO shooting (unless it worth 7-8 pts and 0,5 SWC:). How about 3 B2 Flash Fanous and B4 HMG?

you know you can PASS 14 WIP to make religious troop fail guts, dont you? Also ML's is your only solid ARO's, so would you prefer it fail guts & open you flank to the enemy or want it stand still?
With so many wildcards i still recomend take Jannisarie to give him at least 6th sencess if you get 2nd turn. else both your ML's would be easily killed throught the smokes or by surprise TO...

The Rafiq and Founs combo is almost always an autoinclude in my list for the following reason:

    1. Rafiq has Sensor, and Sat-Lock so can use triangulated fire. This emans as a whole order he can fire out to his max range on BS8 flat, no modifiers. This is good for prying models off CC.
    2. Fanous can drop Sniffers to extend the range of the Rafiq.
    3. The rafiq can sensor objective consols for TO models in Hidden Deployment and flush out end of game objective grabbers.
    4. It can be given MML2 and has a Light Shotgun.
    5. It can be given MMl2 and go into Suppression.

Forward Observer bots are VERY good for their points, never under estimate. They have won me many game because people just consider it an "cheer leader bot with a gun"
