Frankly, even "cheap" Maggie doesn't do anything special. It shoots, and it does so worse than bloody linked Ghulam HMG (although failures with Maggie is less punishing, usually). Expensive variant at least does something unique for us. But I didn't even realize you can place mines basically anywhere on the map on 8s with it, so I'm probably not the guy to ask for profile's evaluation. I think it's worth trying to build some oldschool NCA-style lists and see what happens. We don't have peacemakers and bulleteers, but I think we can at least get by somehow.
I see how its supposed to work on paper, in a vacuum. Using the 360 degree profile with mine layer to give your DZ some serious protection between the mines and the MultiHMG. Hypothetically can give you great fire lane coverage while your midfielders do their work. But outside of this one unit.. RTF is NCA levels of expensive. If 1/3rd of the army is gone to this one unit who's very easy to tag from across the table, then the remaining 2/3rds have to do quite a lot of the actual work. My Squalo can squeeze through smaller gaps than the Maggi and also doesn't need a baggage bot to reload its spec fires. It can do a lot more on the advance than the maggie can. So to me, maggie should just hold down fire lane and if alive, make a dash for objectives with its pilot endgame. The 30ish points I save by not taking a 360/mine laying variant goes towards a Namurr or other infiltrating specialists. Edit: RTF overall seems to use NCA type thinking far more than I was expecting. This should make my transition much easier XD
Well, laying mines at least isn't a f2f, so whatever order efficiency you lose on baggage trips, you gain with better success rate, on average. There are other nuances as well, like mines having different template and Shock ammo, or requiring LoF to somewhere near your targets, so probably you aren't flushing out those Rodocks from the roof near opponent's DZ using Maggie.
Remote Presence TAGs have Courage, so don't have to roll. It's only the Manned TAGs that need to make GUTS rolls. If you can shoot from one side of the table to another, you need more terrain. Yes, a small number of places is fine, but in general you shouldn't have more than about 36" sightlines ANYWHERE.
Ah, that explains why I've never rolled GUTs. I sure do enjoy the hyper power. That's a fine comment to make when I have a say in the tables layout. But at the last ITS event I went to for example, 2/3 maps allowed for someone on the edge of a DZ to be able to smack a good 3/4th of the table. That's without significant elevation. Sometimes life just doesn't work out in a fair manner :/
Isnt that a bit unbalanced in regards to Sniper Rifles and Missile Launchers? That would make them quite pointless imho. You shouldnt be able to draw LOF on ground level from DZ edge to DZ edge, but diagonally on the ground or straight from buildings there should be quite some lanes longer than that.
Means there aren't a lot of places for snipers or MLs, no. But they are still out-ranging HMGs for a little bit.
