Now that I've had time to look a bit more, here's my initial thoughts.

For the most part I’m really happy with new Shasvastii. They will never have tons of orders but this is an improvement.

Sheskin: Didn’t need Fat2 but I’ll take it! She finally has a link team that can somewhat keep up with her. The only character that has BS18. BS15+3 Fireteam, then +3 for range. Crits on 19, 20, and now 1’s. Burst 5 with Red Fury. What's not to love other than

Cutthroats: I’m not sure how I feel about them. ODD is cool but such short ranged weapons starting in your deployment is not good. The Haris could be good with Sheskin. A close combat blender!

Seed Soldiers: Still kinda suck to me but better than they were. Maybe I just need to go over the rules a bit more.

Cadmus: Killer hacker baby! But sadly that’s the only thing I see that’s really good. Morpho Scan is not going to help at all. It’s very situation, takes an order to do, and he has meh stats if he doesn’t. This is going to take some trying out to figure out how to use Decoy and Embryo.

Haiduk: So much better I think. Notice the BS is now 12. Glad to have our own MSV.

Nox: Possibly my favorite profile. Double Zappers in a team could be fantastic. They seem to have something to take care of any situation. Flexible by themselves but also with wildcards. It’s tempting to do 2 possible fireteams. One that moves ahead and one that stays back to be defensive. Depending on what turn you go determines which link you use. They will be great with Sheskin!

Noctifer: Still pretty good. Nuff said.

Caliban: They seem pretty expensive for what they do. FD2 is good, camo good, D-charges fantastic. I can’t see taking more than one but which one!?

Mentors: Seem okay. I good Lt. option for sure. With BTS6 he’d make a pretty good hacker.

Tensho Expert: ???? okay I am confused by this ONE guy. He doesn’t seem to bring anything good to the table. He can go in your mostly one link to do…what?

Victor Messer: I really like him. The HD+ can be fantastic. Not sure if I’d want him in a link, maybe start him off in one and then break him off.

    Hasht: still good but expensive.

Gwailo: Okay possibly my biggest disappointment. I’ve got two BSG and Mutli-Rifles I need to use for something else. However there’s hardly any Multi-rifles anymore. I’m glad he’s now an HI with good ARM and BTS with nanoscreen but why AVA1? They are very expensive though. So it’s hard to see taking more than one anyway I guess. I just don’t know what to make of them.

Sphinx: still good and I'm looking forward to a cooler figure.

Remotes: I’ve always liked these FO bots in all armies. I just don’t know if the M-Drone is worth 23pts. in an army already starving for points. The Missile T-Drone was expected and It’s not bad. I’d rather the Smart missile in a link though but oh well.

Malignos: Now here is the KHD! Malignos is cool but expensive for my tastes.

Speculo: Already a great troop but add a Minelayer? Yes please! I think it’s worth the 1.5 SWC.

Shrouded: The cheaper answer to the Malignos. I’ve always used them over the Malignos. Now with KHD? Hell yeah! Another minelayer too? That’s fantastic!

TAIGHA!!!!: I love them! I’m surprised they didn’t just go with giving them Hungries but I’m fine with it. True it’s not like we had thought. It’s a lot closer to the Preta, but I’m fine with that. with HD1 they dodge on 16, fantastic. The big thing I like is Berserk (with Assault) with a 6-6 move!

First off, BS15 Joan in a crusade link says hi.

Secondly, Fatality crits on a result of 1, and with BS21 your minimum result is 2, so the crit chance is the same.

Fatality crits on a result of 1

BS21 adds 1 to the result of any BS Roll.

So a roll of 1 will give a result of 2.

The Tensho's dual Civvie + combatant profile makes me think it will be part of a future scenario packet, serving as a Civvie miniature, but also including combatant rules so you can use it in your army, like the Diplomatic Delegate or CSU.

Did Joan always have BS15? I thought it was Sheskin only for a while. So one of two!

So the Fat2 doesn't work on ones if she's shooting on 21, however if she's out of good range, or the link is less than 5, she can get the crits on 1. No matter what, a 10% chance of a crit.

    Some interesting teams for her:

    Haris
    SHESKIIN Red Fury, Pulzar, D-Charges / Pistol, DA CCW. (1 | 54)
GWAILO (Multispectral Visor L2) Heavy Rocket Launcher / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (2 | 43)
    M-DRONE FTO (Nanoscreen) Combi Rifle / Electric Pulse. (0 | 23)

    3 SWC | 120 Points
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    SHESKIIN Red Fury, Pulzar, D-Charges / Pistol, DA CCW. (1 | 54)
JAYTH CUTTHROATS (Fireteam: Haris) Submachine Gun, Chain Rifle, E/M Grenades / Pistol, DA CC Weapon, Knife. (0 | 26)
JAYTH CUTTHROATS (Specialist Operative) Vulkan Shotgun, E/M Grenades / Pistol, DA CC Weapon, Knife. (0 | 32)

    1 SWC | 112 Points
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────
    SHESKIIN Red Fury, Pulzar, D-Charges / Pistol, DA CCW. (1 | 54)
JAYTH CUTTHROATS (Fireteam: Haris) Submachine Gun, Chain Rifle, E/M Grenades / Pistol, DA CC Weapon, Knife. (0 | 26)
VICTOR MESSER (Hacking Device Plus) Boarding Shotgun, 2 Nanopulser, D-Charges / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 28)

    1.5 SWC | 108 Points
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    Core Fireteam
    SHESKIIN Red Fury, Pulzar, D-Charges / Pistol, DA CCW. (1 | 54)
NOX Combi Rifle + Light Grenade Launcher (Normal and Nimbus plus) / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 17)
NOX (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle, Zapper / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 15)
NOX (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle, Zapper / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 15)
NOX Hacker (EI Hacking Device) Submachine Gun, Zapper / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 17)

    2.5 SWC | 118 Points
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    SHESKIIN Red Fury, Pulzar, D-Charges / Pistol, DA CCW. (1 | 54)
NOX Combi Rifle + Light Grenade Launcher (Normal and Nimbus plus) / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 17)
NOX (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle, Zapper / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 15)
NOX (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle, Zapper / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 15)
    T-DRONE FTO Missile Launcher, Flash Pulse / Electric Pulse. (1.5 | 19)

    3.5 SWC | 120 Points

Wow I didn't realized they are Size 1!!! Going to be a lot easier to not be seen then.

I've been playing Shas for a long time and am fired up about the update. I'm working my way through the profiles and am jotting down my thoughts as I have time. Here's the first batch:

Seed Soldier - Crap stats but solid upgrade over Nox (limited camo, DEP, Chest Mines on seed - mine with dude, FD2) - decent for cheap FD specialists/camo spam stuff. Zero/Chasseur kind of out-classes them but whatever. A 2 use mine that hatches into a specialist dude is kind of a cool thing. Could be cool shell game with Shrouded minelayers to make a dangerous midfield. Standout is probably the FO, but LGL could be interesting - but BS 11 :(.

Cadmus - Interesting changes. Dropping a two use mine with decoys in annoying spaces could be a thing. Will want to assist that jump though, so pretty order intestive to alpha with this guy. Using as DZ defense could also be useful. All profiles are OK for AD, KHD probably not the best because of low WIP and better KHD inflitrators (Shrouded/Malignos). I'd probably generally go for the cheap BS, and maybe the Combi Assault pistol. Red Fury could also have it's uses. Can no longer morphoscan friendlies so that skill is pretty niche. Useful but a little gimmicky. I'm going to try using them as a throw away shock troop.

Haiduk - I love the changes to the haiduk, still sapper so cover + mimetism, but now with MSV2 and Marksmanship lvl1 (shock all the time) and higher BS (12). Both profiles are cool (MSR for shock + DA aro), AP marksman rifle for cheap suppressive fire that could go on the attack. Smart Sniper is still around if you want it on Nox on a decent platform for that so no loss there. I see this updated unit as a total gain in Vanilla CA and it will likely mostly replace Yaogats and Maakreps there as a cheap MSV2 caddie and will combo well with more plentiful smoke there. Speculo smoke and the MSR could pull off some nice combos, but Speculo probably will be busy with other odd jobs.

Noctifers - Same. Still good old noctifers, but more competition. ML profile is still the outstanding profile here (hacker and spitfire have good replacements). Lt profile easily replaced by 0 SWC malignos LT.

Caliban - Basically a new profile with hints to the past version. The old caliban were overpriced kind of janky, but worked OK as a 3 man hit team style fireteam with some pretty cool load outs. The new profile riffs on the old version and has transformed them into midfield marker state brawlers with interesting equipment and some scary close combat skills. The standouts are the specialist profiles (including CoC!) and the Light Rocket Launcher profile is an interesting hybrid. The spitfire profiles seem too pricy in points and SWC and encourage you to keep at range when you should be moving in, causing panic, and eating chumps. The new loadouts are so shasvastii and are reminiscent of the old Aswang turned up to 11.

Very excited. SEF was my first army and I've been waiting years for reworked models and rules.

Can't wait for the new sculpts. Haiduk and Gwailos are probably my favourite changes but there is a lot here to play around with.

    PART 2:

Gwailos - Quite a change here. He's turned into a somewhat resiliant and well outfitted solo gun platform, But he's pretty expensive for what he is and throwing him in a haris team just makes him that much more expensive. With albedo he can act like a mini Overdron and punish MSV gunners which is a pretty useful thing in the sectorial. The HMG profile feels like the standout here with the high burst and range providing the gwailo what he needs to mow down ARO pieces in the active turn. The AP spitfire is cute but niche, but the MSV2 HRL profile is interesting and something I want to try out on the field. This could be a good guy to throw in a haris, but that haris is super expensive (like almost Sphinx level expensive so just take the Sphinx!).

Shrouded - These guys have always been pretty good but have more competition now (seed soldiers, caliban, etc.). They are the primary option if you want a skirmishing mine dropper. The FO and minelayer profiles are still the go to loadouts for me, but the AHD and boarding shotgun are also pretty good for a cheap AHD in the midfield with mines and a camo shotgun guy. The KHD is overshadowed by the Malignos KHD in my eyes but it's a cool new option. Still room for 1-2 of these guys, but there'll be more variety in the shas midfield after the update.

Malignos - Still pricy for what you get but the new KHD is a great loadout and in my eyes the best KHD platform in the army. SMG, Dazer, and mines on a cheap (for Shas!) specialist is pretty cool and meshes well with a TO midfield skirmisher. Other standouts are the FO and 0 SWC LT options. The rest are pretty expensive for what you get and can be mostly be replaced by shrouded or other profiles, but the malignos mono-mine profile is pretty fun.

Just a short note on automedikits since the Shrouded and Malignos both have them. automedikits are dangerous and feel like they add bloat to the profile, but they are usually on troopers that are far behind enemy lines and doctors. There's also a bit of anti-synergy going on here with the Shasvastii rule and if you fail you're seed that was scoring is removed from the board. It would be awesome if the Shasvastii rule let you re-roll failed automedikit roles with command tokens. This being said, a successful automedikit at the right time can turn a game but experienced players will invest the resources to take those zombie warriors off of the table for good.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but the updated Morpho-Scan can now only be used on a living enemy, and it imposes an unopposed reset at -9. Fail you take the target's Mov CC BS Phys and Wip. Can be used in zone of control.

I look forward to one day dropping behind an Aquilla Guard, morpho-scanning him, and turning a corner with a bs15 bsg
