Smart missiles are centred on the target. Speculative Fire is off-centre and can usually fit more enemies. Smart missiles also has a tendency to kill the targeted enemy prior to its usefulness is fulfilled. Use Smart Missiles against the single target that must die and Speculative Fire against groups that need to die/isolation. If you even get a choice.
Possibly a stupid question... but is the spec fire roll F2F against dodging targets under the template?
Not exactly, it's really change face. This means a -3 MOD on the roll, and also you cannot move the model. Being able to move the model potentially means the targets can spread out.
Are you sure? I thought you could dodge against spec fire templates but at -3 for it being out of LOS. And as a dodge, movement is permitted if you pass. But is it a F2F roll against the shooter?
Yes it's a dodge and yes its ftf. (Also, the -3 mod is the because the dodger can't see the attacker).
Sorry King in Yellow is correct, it IS a dodge, not change facing, albeit at a -3 MOD, if you do not have LoF, and you can move if you pass.
