I’m wondering if someone can clarify what Warcors do or what their particular role is? I know there have been articles about it but I’ve always thought their role was one game promotion/events and community building.

There is a new meta building in my area and there are some people I think would be great as Warcors though they're a bit hesitant to apply at this stage as they're newish to the game. In terms of what they do to promote the game though it's outstanding.

Any help/places to point them would be great!!

    Peace out!!

Well, the ones I've met seemed a lot more handsome than regular players, but maybe that's just a thing in the locales I visit. Aren't they all supposed to be smarter, wiser, and spiritually better than other people - kind of like vegans, but for Infinity?

Basically, organize game nights, run demos, and tournaments.

And yes, we are more handsome.

    The Three Facts of Warcors
    1. Warcors are mammals.
    2. Warcors fight ALL the time.
    3. The purpose of a Warcor is to flip out and kill people.

You seem to be suggesting there's some sort of Intelligent Design behind the development of Warcors (bellum correspondens communia); I thought they'd merely adapted to survive the rigours of their evolutionary niche - the Local Friendly Gaming Store.

The "Friendly" Local Gaming Store really is a bit like Thunderdome!

Awesome. Provided there are no punches thrown a bit of competition can definitely drive up interest

The sole purpose of all Warcors I know is to be pestered by their local metas with questions about upcoming releases that have not been revealed yet.

Before this derails...I can talk about how I interpret warcor work besides what CB articles describe it as.

As a waror you should bring people together, know people, connect with them. You should have a collection of a few models and you need a gaming table. It helps to have a good grasp of the game, the factions, units, miniatures and you should be able to explain complicated things. Some organizational skills come in handy cause you should establish events or regular gaming nights for interested people. Managing collected order of new stuff makes a nice move as well.

Probably the most inportant thing: being able to lose your intro games and letting beginners stand a chance when playing you.

tl;dr: trying to be the best possible gaming person...which obviously doesn't work all the time...but in the end "warcor" is just a word and doesn't change anything :)

And every now and then warcors are supposed to argue with other warcors...because reasons.

What others have said - our prime directive is to build community by running events and teaching people the game. Deep rules knowledge or high level play skills are not required. An ability to talk to people and share your excitement for the game is much more important.

Nicely said. A good teacher is a fine thing wherever they're found. Good on you.

The game's balanced on a knife edge, so it's really not hard to do, or ever likely to seem patronising. You know if you're teaching a good game , because you start by failing to get into the right range band, stick too much of the base out of cover once in a while, and then find yourself genuinely struggling to stay in the game.

I agree with this definition while entirely disregard the stated sentiment behind it (unless it was sarcastic).

As others have said, our role is to build the community, through intro games, regular game nights, tournaments, trade shows. It's also not just about the game, but the people too (there is encouragement to do things like painting days/simply getting together with your players just to build the community and spirit).

The player or one of his/her troops?
    :sunglasses:
Hm, maybe this is some sort of darwinistic approach to 'strengthen' the community...?
