Hey guys! I've been playing for 2 weeks now and did the tutorial missions from Coldfront and Icestorm with friends. We've been learning the basics and we're ready to jump up and start playing 150 points games. I have almost everything Onyx and would like some ideas for a fun and versatile list to start learning what Combined can do. I'll be mostly playing against Pano, Aridana, Yu Jing and Nomads. I'm looking for a fun list but also looking for tips like: - How to choose the right Lieutenant - What is a good Lieutenant - What are our must-haves - Basic/general list building tips for Combined/Onyx Many thanks everyone!
At 150 points combined army generally suffers due to the high cost of the models. However, there are some things you can try, specially in Onyx. If you have everything, you can try the following list to get a hang on how some of the basics work: Onyx Contact Force ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 7 NEXUS Lieutenant Hacker (EI Hacking Device) Combi Rifle, Nullifier / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 24) MED-TECH OBSIDON MEDCHANOID Combi Rifle, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 23) SLAVE DRONE Electric Pulse. (0 | 3) KERR-NAU (UPGRADE: White Noise) Plasma Rifle + Pitcher, D-Charges / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0 | 27) UNIDRON (Forward Observer) Plasma Carbine / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 15) UNIDRON (Forward Observer) Plasma Carbine / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 15) UNIDRON Spitfire / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (1 | 18) UNIDRON Plasma Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (1.5 | 24) 3 SWC | 149 Points Open in Infinity Army You get one of the more iconic Onyx fireteams and ways to buff it with your nexus hacker, and the list itself is quite strong while bringing lots of the stuff Onyx is good at (plasma and drones). It can be a fun thing to learn how to play, but you should start pushing to play bigger games, as Combined tends to work better at 300 points or even 400.
Don't know if I would play doctor worm in a 150 Point game, but the rest is nearly the optimum. Onyx Contact Force ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 NEXUS Lieutenant Hacker (EI Hacking Device) Combi Rifle, Nullifier / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 24) KERR-NAU (UPGRADE: White Noise) Plasma Rifle + Pitcher, D-Charges / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0 | 27) UNIDRON (Forward Observer) Plasma Carbine / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 15) UNIDRON (Forward Observer) Plasma Carbine / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 15) UNIDRON Spitfire / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (1 | 18) UNIDRON Plasma Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (1.5 | 24) IKADRON (Baggage, Repeater) 2 Light Flamethrowers, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9) IKADRON (Baggage, Repeater) 2 Light Flamethrowers, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9) ÍMETRON . (0 | 4) ÍMETRON . (0 | 4) 3 SWC | 149 Points Open in Infinity Army
Wow those 2 lists look nice! Thanks a lot How would you build a list without hacker? We might start our venture with no hackers and add them when we're ready...
In Onyx? I wouldn't. I know that sounds pedantic, but understand that Remotes are one of Onyx' biggest strengths, and if you don't have hackers you don't have remotes, so you end up needing one of them one way or another.
They're required to field remotes. You're welcome to waive that requirement with friends at 150 points if you're not going to play with hackers (and it often is waived for the first couple rounds of an escalation/slow-grow league) but remember that hackers will make remotes both more lethal and put them at more risk, and are required to have remotes in your list, once you add those rules. Onyx really doesn't play without remotes...
Not true! Onyx Contact Force ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 8 XEODRON Red Fury, Blitzen / Heavy Pistol. (1 | 59) STALDRON Flash Pulse / Knife. (0 | 0) NEXUS Lieutenant (Specialist Operative) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 16) UNIDRON Spitfire / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (1 | 18) UNIDRON (Forward Observer) Plasma Carbine / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 15) UNIDRON (Forward Observer) Plasma Carbine / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 15) UNIDRON Plasma Carbine / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 14) IKADRON (Baggage, Repeater) 2 Light Flamethrowers, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9) ÍMETRON . (0 | 4) 2 SWC | 150 Points Open in Infinity Army Spoiler You can always take a TAG.
Funny for you. Not so funny for the opponent... Onyx Contact Force ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 5 NEXUS Lieutenant (Specialist Operative) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 16) R-DRONE Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8) SPHINX Spitfire, 2 Heavy Flamethrowers / EXP CCW. (2 | 106) SCINDRON Flash Pulse / Knife. (0 | 0) IKADRON (Baggage, Repeater) 2 Light Flamethrowers, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9) IKADRON (Baggage, Repeater) 2 Light Flamethrowers, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9) 2 SWC | 148 Points Open in Infinity Army
Awesome thanks guys! I'm trying Ben's list tonight since it's the only models I have assembled so far :P
Well it went quite well except for my rolls. It was still a tight game, really fun. The Sniper Unidron underperformed but both plasma carbines and the spitfire Unidrons were real threats. Really love this army, Dogged is a nice boon and the unique CA weapons are cool. On a side not, the Veteran Kazak is a freaking beast in Suppresive Fire mode...damn that dude! Next time im gonna try something different, maybe less but more elite models to spice things up!
Wow this looks nasty and I have all those models! Will most likely try that one soon! Still need to buy the Xeodron and Overdron though.
The scindron is (I think) one of the arms of the Sphinx model (the figure itself is sold with the Raicho pilot in a dual blister). In other words, it is the remote pilot and is not deployed with the Sphinx normally. I am actually unsure if you can elect to deploy dismounted, however.
Ok because the Scindron as it's own stats...i'm still new to the game and this part is not clear but I will try to find the info on that.
Right. TAGs have pilots (either manned or remote) that are able to dismount. There are a few interactions that take some getting used to because of this, but think of the two profiles as "mounted" and "unmounted". In your first few games, I highly doubt you would use the pilot profile at all.
Just to gently toss my hat in the ring since thus far you've just really been looking at things with yellow and black icons, so I thought I'd contribute a spot of Rodok B*** ***t and introduce you to the joy of superjumping mimetic veteran BS12 infantry: Boing ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 8 NEXUS Lieutenant Hacker (EI Hacking Device) Combi Rifle, Nullifier / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 24) UNIDRON K1 Combi Rifle + 1 TinBot A (Deflector L1) / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0.5 | 17) UNIDRON (Forward Observer) Plasma Carbine / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 15) RODOK (Fireteam: Haris) Combi Rifle, 2 Light Shotguns / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 27) RODOK HMG / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 27) RODOK Hacker (EI Killer Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 22) IKADRON (Baggage, Repeater) 2 Light Flamethrowers, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9) IKADRON (Baggage, Repeater) 2 Light Flamethrowers, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9) 3 SWC | 150 Points Open in Infinity Army This list uses a small core team of unidrons and a haris team of Rodoks, the core occupies ground and supports while the haris is your assault unit (with bonus area denial mines!). Or if you hate your friends: Boing plus ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 7 UMBRA SAMARITAN Lieutenant Spitfire, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Vorpal CC Weapon. (1 | 44) RODOK HMG / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 27) RODOK Hacker (EI Killer Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 22) RODOK Combi Rifle, 2 Light Shotguns / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 26) RODOK Boarding Shotgun, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 19) R-DRONE Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8) ÍMETRON . (0 | 4) 2.5 SWC | 150 Points Open in Infinity Army Unfortunately 150pts doesn't let you squeeze in the Missile launcher but you can still squeeze in a B5 BS15 HMG / Spitfire or a BS 21 Boarding shotgun for maximum aggression. Both of these lists include hackers but they're not really the focus in either list and are more just there to enable remotes, although the nexus hacker LT can also do some buffing with assisted fire.
