hey guys, I've been busy the last couple of years and haven't had time to play much. Starting to get back into the swing of things and noticed that infinity army lacked o-yoroi, haramakis and the JSA sectorial. What is going on? from N2 to N3 they phased out my exrah units, please tell me the same crap isn't happening with the above!
Sadly, the JSA have split off from Yu Jing and are now their own faction (which are under NA2 in army). Which means, if you want to play Yu Jing, you no longer have access to any of the JSA units.
Last year they moved JSA to its own army (listed under NAA, Non-Aligned Armies) instead of being part of Yu Jing. The book was called "Uprising". Splitting off the faction like that was not universally popular. The good news is that all of your models are still valid; the bad news is that they may not all be part of the same army anymore.
Anybody wanna do the Uprising forum meltdown in realtime for this guy as well so he doesn't have to feel left out?
Nah, that's entirely too much effort. He can read the book himself, it's been out since April. I will just leave it as "I am still trying to regain give-a-damn for this game." Since April. Biggest reason I've stayed here has been the Forum RP I'm in.
As has been said, JSA have split from Yu Jing and the only thing of theirs we kept was the ninja. It makes me sad and the fluff was... well a lot of people didn't like it and for very understandable reasons. I'm not invested in the background enough to get het up over it but basically JSA are now their own distinct force and have nothing to do with vanilla Yu Jing. On the bright side Yu Jing are still a force to be reckoned with (I don't have any problems with using them on the table), JSA are fun and no longer just a super aggressive combat force. They still can do that but now they have options to do other stuff as well. Lastly and for those who have a more multi-faction collection of miniatures there's also Ikari company who mix rogue elements from a bunch of different factions but with a core of JSA options with Wu ming thrown in for good measure. The background probably won't sit well but the list is pretty fun to play and list crunch with.
Thank you for the information guys; I appreciate it. I play combined, Ariadna and yu-jing. I have enough models to play Yu-jing and JSA separately, I just used to use an O yoroi and a oniwaban as well as some keisotsus regularly in my lists. I tend to use a general army list vice a sectorial most of the time, with JSA and Imp service being exceptions (and very occasionally shavasti sectorial, but EI are my favorite combined units so that is rare). looking at the JSA force, I still could not find haramaki heavy infantry. Tanko seems similar but have an AVA of 3 and I used to run 5 haramaki. I can see there being a general freak out over the split on the forums. there was a decent sized implosion when Exrah were edited out of the combined army. If haramaki are gone, I'm afraid that I am done with JSA and potentially the game at this point, just using what I currently have and not making any further purchases.
I was in the same position. Those were very regular features in my vanilla lists. Haramaki were more or less commoners who the Samurai class used to hold off retreats and die an honourable death so the more important people could escape. As for gameplay, Tanko are literally re-designed Haramaki. Roughly the same price, slightly worse at melee but dropping from Extreme Impetuous to normal Impetuous. The monofilament CCW does make their melee damage go up significantly, but not having access to Antimateriel CC does hurt now that objectives that require those have become more common. Try Tanko before you leave! JSA are better off for it, but I do agree that the lower AVA does hurt a bit, however it's a challenge more than a drawback as the Tanko are over-all better than Haramaki and their ability to link with Mushashi in a Haris is very, very, interesting. So don't jump to conclusions just because they changed name! P.s. Ryuken-9 does a lot for JSA's skirmish game, allowing you to play it at a lower level than going all-in on Ninja subtypes, meaning you no longer have to essentially choose between Ninja or Samurai, you can have a bit of both.
Two units got effectively renamed along with minor redesigns. Haramaki are now Tanko and Raiden are now Ryuken.
It's also worth noting that you haven't been able to do the full 5 member Zensenbutai (Haramaki or Tanko) Fireteam since HSN3, they've needed to include Domaru since then.
I'll try them out before I jump to conclusions. I just dealt with the same crap when Exrah were phased out; I'm not so bitter about the vector/void operator as I am the caskuda. that thing was pretty expensive and I spent a lot of time on it.
JSA has more to it now, things like the Domaru/Keisotsu mixed link, Zensenbutai/Musashi Haris, Daiyokai, and Ryuken-9 SMG are fun new options. Comparing the old Sectorial to the new Secessionist army they've gained much more than they've lost. Zensenbutai also feature as a very flexible choice in Ikari company, being able to jump into various Fireteams with Druze, Keisotsu, and Brawlers.
On the plus side the profiles essentially still exist for your models this time around, they've just been renamed assuming you were a JSA player. Now if you're a vanilla player who liked to use JSA in their lists, then yeah, you got screwed over.
Yes please, I even just restarted painting, blogging and shitposting, so I can authentically lose my motivation to do any of that all over again!
How about we take it easy on him and just kick him in the nuts or something? No reason to subject him to that abomination.
I won't say it was "flawless" but that's not to say that a certain non-zero element of the forum community didn't over-react just a "tad". I get that nerds need to obsess over stuff - but you don't need to go *that* far down the rabbithole.
