So this came up during a game yesterday and hopefully there is a correct/good answer to it all. The image is the set up. The Enemy HI is active and declares move into the hackers ZoC (orange circle) as well as being in the LoF of the target unit, the HI has Martial Arts L2, and thus Stealth and therefore it does not provoke an ARO from the hacker, however it does from the target unit. The target unit declares BS attack at the HI. The HI as its second skill declares BS attack at the target. In doing so it also provokes an ARO from the hacker. At this point it is clear that it is a F2F roll between the HI and the Target unit. If the hacker declares the use of the Oblivion program is it part of the F2F roll? If the hacker declares the use of the Gotcha! program is it F2F? Or is it not part of F2F at all?
The Hacker's ARO will be a Normal Roll unless the active trooper does something against the Hacker. As the active trooper has declared BS Attack against the enemy HI, there will be a FtF Roll between those two, and Normal Rolls from the Hacker.
I reread my own post. I now feel very silly for thinking this was a difficult or confusing game element. Mid-game it was very confusing. Regardless, the hacker missed their roll. So, everything played out correctly. Thanks for the quick replies everyone!
You needn’t feel silly @CalmEyE,, the ARO mechanism is one the key differences between Infinity and other tabletop games , and it’s quite often that it’s not obvious or ‘intuitive’* how it should be working. * that is, being unlike other games, we’ve no prior experience as gamers of the way it should work.
