Can someone help walk me through exactly what Patsy can form a Haris with? Examples: Patsy haris + 2 ORCS Patsy haris + 2 Kamau Patsy haris + 2 Fusiliers Patsy Haris+ Kamau + Varuna Machinist? Basically curious if or how her wildcard status interacts with Haris.
Kamau and ORCs can both form Haris links, Fusiliers can not. http://infinitythewiki.com/en/List_of_Fireteams#Varuna_Immediate_Reaction_Division So: Patsy + 2 Kamau Patsy + 2 Orc Patsy + Orc + Kamau Patsy + Kamau + Machinist
The kamau+engineer is the one i was having a hard time wrapping my head around, wasn't sure if it would have to be the kamau haris profile to count as a kamau haris
No, the rules just need someone in the Fireteam to have the Haris skill, it doesn't need to be a specific trooper unless it explicitly says so (for example, Karakuri Special Haris must use the Domaru with Haris.
@ijw said somewhere, that whereever in the army list there's a Haris or Duo, Patsy can create that link, so if you have Patsy, you don't need to get e.g. Kamau Haris. While I totally believe @ijw, I totally don't get how he ended up to this conclusion. So any references or whatever? Joining a fireteam means to me, that once it's created, you can join it, so it seems to me you need a Kamau with the Haris skill, to create the fireteam, then you can add Patsy to it. So please clarify what I'm misunderstanding.
You're getting too hung up on 'join' as 'adding to an existing Fireteam', when it's 'can be part of the Fireteam from the start'. Unfortunately Valerya's updated and clearer 'can be part of' wording didn't make it through to the new wildcard troopers. Apart from anything else, how would Joan of Arc be able to join an 'existing' Fireteam: Duo, when a Duo is limited to two troopers?
Dude with duo creates the fireteam, then Joan joins. Where to give CB feedback that the rules are not clear?
That's not how the Fireteam creation rules work though, you don't create a Fireteam and then add troopers to it, you nominate the leader and check coherency, Declare which troopers are going to be in the Fireteam, check it's legal, and then it's created. http://infinitythewiki.com/en/Creation_of_a_Fireteam The problem is the use of the word "Join", when "joining" a Fireteam after creation isn't possible. A better way to phrase it would be "Can count as any type of trooper for the purposes of Fireteam creation"
On top of what colbrook said, you can't form a Fireteam with one trooper. From the Fireteam: Duo Effects: Fireteam: Duo allows players to compose two member Fireteams.
I always thought of creating and joining a fireteam as part of listbuilding (and it's not). So you put together your fireteam, then you deploy it as a whole. Or deploy individual troops, and then you deploy the leader, and with it creates the fireteam. So joining is not done during the game, you just create the fireteam from the exact number of dudes or dudesses you want. Can we agree the rules are not intuitive, messy, and need some work?
While I am not 100% convinced that it is the right place for Patsy, I must say that I'm liking the look of that Kamau+Machinist Haris. That's a nice little unit.
Agreed. Is it @Interruptor that is the rules writer? Can we get all the "... can join a fireteam" phrasing replaced with "... can be part of a fireteam" in the next update to Army, please?
Clipper's wildcard too right, so for example this if also a valid (Kamau) Haris: Patsy + Machinist + Clipper Which expands the options a fair bit.
There's just something both ironic and awesome about telling your opponent "I have a kamau haris of patsy, a machinist, and the clipper." Theres a lot of similar link team logic in MO now too, but it's going to be a while before I can stop smirking at my opponent while telling them what I have on my list.
