Can someone use a Camo / TO Camo / Impersonation trooper as their Xenotech by deploying them "out of marker state" (using the "Optional" tag in the skill)? Until recently, I assumed the answer was yes, however the recent FAQ about skills cancellation and choosing to leave Camo state has made me somewhat less sure about it. Follow up question: Assuming the answer to the above is Yes, does choosing not to use the Impersonation state also mean you can't deploy anywhere on the table (and have to deploy in your DZ)? It's part of the same "optional" skill, does choosing not to use part of that skill deny you access to all of it? Again, until recently I wouldn't have questioned it - I have even used a non-Impersonation state Speculo in Decapitation to kill the enemy HVT early, and had that done against me with Speculos and Fidays many times.
It's not even about the Optional label, all those Skills use 'allows the user to deploy in X state' wording, or very similar. Not 'must deploy in X state'. In other words, yes you can deploy a Camo/TO Camo/Impersonation trooper as a model, and use them as your DataTracker, and Impersonators can still use the separate part of the Skill that lets them deploy outside your Deployment Zone.
Thanks Ian. I've noticed sometimes that in Infinity "allows" means "must" and sometimes it means "can", wasn't sure which one this was. Nice to know I wasn't cheating in the past though.
